I used to wake up every morning,
With life's mascot at my feet,
He'd lick the frown right off my face,
And joyous words his eyes would speak,

For they were like two windows,
From which I could not hide,
And every time he looked at me,
Light made its way inside,

Each day was new and full of wonder,
Every thread of grass was his,
He had the world inside a ball,
And to chase it was pure bliss,

Oh sweet and playful days,
Memories I recall,
I wonder if he misses them,
Or remembers them at all,

For the morning's generosity,
Has finally run dry,
Warm and sunny afternoons,
Have become the cruelest time,

The food his nose once blindly followed,
Now rots before his sight,
There is no pain in hunger,
Without an appetite for life,

Sometimes I'll look into his eyes,
For a glimmer of rebirth,
Just to see them fading slowly,
Like the paw prints in the dirt,

Surely he must know it,
In every aching bone,
As he crawls into the corner,
And lies there all alone,

Gone are the endless days,
Of chasing rabbits in the hedge,
No matter what the game is,
Life's a stick he will not fetch,

Oh brother to my soul,
Not even a goodbye?
When there's no more life to live,
The dogs know how to die.

He’s a behavior problem
He’s really smart
He’ll get you killed
He’ll save your life

He’s really smart
He’s too aggressive
He’ll save your life
Look at that face

He’s too aggressive
We’re going to war
Look at that face
He’s absolutely fearless

We’re going to war
He’ll get you killed
He’s absolutely fearless
I was a behavior problem too
I've been experimenting with different poetic forms. This is the first in a series of Pantoums.

Every day, her smile greets me
as she enters the house after work.
Every day, she talks to me
until her mouth runs dry.
Every day, I walk by her side,
stopping only to smell the roses.
Every day, I follow her around,
waiting for her next command.
Every day, I put the light in her eyes
and the smile on her face.
Oh, how great it is to be a dog.

I can only throw the ball once

When playing fetch with my dog

Otherwise he gets a complex

Thinking he didn't do it right

The first time

My dream sets out alone on thy ocean
as I am wandering in the promised flaw.
Let myself drown in bursting emotion.
Blessed with salt, shall hold her paw.

When my body shivers from the bay’s cold,
she appeared in front of me like a fay.
Towards the ancient line, love longs to be told
of our affection the tidal would say.

Though my song is often a tune with sorrow,
My sadness disappears because of you.
From sorrowing sky, salty rains like arrow,
Just like when leaving each other, emotion brew.

sesame candy! wait for me, to thee I feel!
You will let your heart be born of steel!

Change is a wild dog that can't be tamed
One that will always test your patience
One that refuses to sit in silence
That doesn't respond when you call its name.

But it will watch as you transform, with pride
Living forever, challenging your ways
It will stay for the rest of your days
You're never alone with Change at your side.
