i am in love with the city lights*
i love how they illuminate the faces of countless dreamers
i love the way the city shines like the billions of stars in the sky
i love that they light me up inside and make me feel alive
i love that to me they feel like opportunities telling me what is possible
i love that they remind me of the possibility of the impossible
i love the millions of fireworks that ignite in my heart when i see them
to me they symbolize dreams, heart's desires and holy grails
some people say they are just artificial, others say they waste energy
*that maybe true, but right now they are just as beautiful as stars to me

We've been walking
Underneath these city lights
For far too long.

That we forget
The grass is a mother's breast,
Soft as the night she was married,
They are calling you home.

Home to the tree that you breathe from.
Home to the noose that you swing from.
The North East is so cold,
And it's not just the weather.

It's a place where
Even the clouds are
Robbed of their ability
To soak in the sun.

Where every
"Promise me this"
Is the chain to a boulder,
Where even eagles
Acquire a taste for flesh.

You would think
That in a place with so much fire,
You would feel a beating heart
Inside the pebbles skipping.
Across a sea of people,
On the day that your
Aspiration became dreams.

We are all human,
But not everybody wants to be-

Some of us want wings
Made from candles,
but never really learned how to swim.

-come.
A little closer.

Let the fire in our bellies
Melt our cities into ashes,
We will take them to our mother,
And ask if we can come
Home.

Christopher
Still thinks of her
He keeps blaming himself
He can't imagine a life without love

He keeps thinking about that night
When nothing went according to his might
He has to suffer
For she was his only pride

This loss is a tragedy
His life is so lost in all this agony
If only she was here
He must have felt like a king after victory

The city lights make no difference
So around his heart,he builds a fence
People all around crack jokes
As he seems to be losing his sense

He shouts but no one to hear the cries
He calls her name as in Heaven, she sighs
He wonders if there's a way,
So at night in the dark, up in sky, he flies
For people who have lost someone to death or to life.

All of these city lights
seem pointless to me.

They brighten
the roads we walk on,
drive on,
die on,
but not
our lives.

Home is where
the heart is,
my heart isn't here.
i wrote this on a drive from the airport to my house. I miss the ocean.

"Are you from around here?"
You would have rolled your eyes at the city sky
Muttered something about Westernization
No stars in the sky
But baby, here they have the lights.

A man asked about you today
He said "and your lover?"
I told him you were long gone,
Feared the exposure of city lights
New York doesn't love me like you do
I said "my lover is a runaway fugitive"
Anything but the truth.

I am standing on a hill
Where city lights become
Fireflies that lead me home
And stars are night lights for
Those who are afraid of their
Thoughts that only come out
After the sun has set
And I am trying to think of
All the times when
Words didn't work
And all the times
I used pain to remind myself
That I am still alive
And all the times
I let people
Break my heart
Just so I could feel
Something
And I think I have
Kissed more bottles than people
But either way I still end up
Drunk on the idea of love
