her eyes are bloodshot and dried out
she hasn't blinked in hours
a screen flickers on and off
just as her mind floats in and out of consciousness

there's shadows on the ceilings
like ones she left behind in the city

she remembers a smile
and jolts upright in bed
there's a smile that haunts her

the sun rises in a couple hours
and she is still awake.

A cigarette sat between the crevices of her coffee flavored lips while she expertly puffed a few smokes.
Her mind tasted like dying roses, sweet thorns and honey.
She was a 3 am disguised in moon dust and I never knew how to differentiate her from day and night.
An old scribble I had made years ago.

i hope you remember me when you least expect it, not at 3:00 a.m. when you miss me.

remember me in the moment the green light, turns yellow, and you think you can make it, but you don’t because it’s already red and you’re not even half way there.
after all, those were the colors i saw in your eyes after i promised to
    love you forever.
first you were ecstatic, then frantic, and then finally paralyzed.
did you fear you no longer would be free?
as far as i know, i wasn’t holding a key ready to lock you up.

remember me as you sip your coffee and you burn your tongue.
after all, that’s how you left me, burnt from your bitter soul.

remember me when you’re listening to music and you have no one to dance with.
after all, i taught you how to have a dance party in your pajamas
    when your soul was breaking.
when your dreams were fantasies and your nightmares were
    realities.

and you know what? if you really want to, remember me at 3:00 a.m.
after all, you always slept while i was wide awake wondering how
    long we’d last.

no matter how hard you try to forget me, you can’t erase us.

“i’ve always felt
like i was searching for
some place
something
someone”

those were the words
that slipped from your
alcohol infested mouth
at 3 am
windows shut
lights off
just us two
and only i could hear

i could have ignored it
pretended i didn’t hear
as if i had
no idea
what you were saying

i tried
but i couldn’t ignore
the words that next came out
“i think i’ve found it with him”
— i wish you said you found it with me.

It's 3am and I won't sleep so we went upstairs-
"Its funny that we can have a joke"
-only to discover personal possession...

Just a whisper too loud, yet the silence echoed much louder.

Waiting to put on two pairs of shoes at once,
wait that's two too many shoes...
put those back.

Sprinting down the street, only to meet a god of a tree.
Golden. Holy. Fading in and out of dreams.

Riiiiiiiing, Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing, Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

"Hello" "Hey, It's common sense, get home"
"Yeah I was trying, but I'm stuck at this stop sign..."
No explanation possible

You seem to be doing fine,
I'm glad to not be haunting your life.
Knowing you're okay makes me so glad,
we said goodbye.
a love, just like ours, wouldn't last.
