Curtains
Hiraeth Jun 2017
"He'd never understand,"
So she draws the curtain closed
Now her shadows were hidden
Her white curtains glowed
The shadows were hid
The tears obscured
The heart locked away

"She's so happy. Her window glows."
So he draws his curtains closed
Now his shadows were hidden
His white curtain glowed
The shadows were hidden
The tears obscured
The heart locked away

And so they remained strangers to each other
Never once thinking that
Behind those glowing white curtains
They hid the same shadows
Obscured the same tears
Locked away the same heart.

Irony
Hiraeth Jun 2017
The bitter irony of life
Is this:
It's the people with trust issues
Who hate being lonely
It's the people with everything
Who hate existing
It's the people with the widest smiles
Who hate smiling
It's the people who need love the most
Who remain unloved
It's the weak
Who are forced to be strong
It's the forgotten
Who long to be remembered

It is the shadow
That's frightened of the darkness
It's the chained
Who long to soar
It is the numb
Who long to feel
It is the people who crave an end to their suffering
Whom death eludes

Solus
Hiraeth Jun 2017
I see them laughing, shimmering,
All around her.
She is the river,
the lithe, gurgling river
That everyone plunged into.
While I?
I am the cold icy drip from the eaves
That trickles down one's neck and makes them cringe.
I don't mind being unnoticed
Being forgotten
Being alone
I just mind that I mind so much.

Blanched
Hiraeth Jun 2017
The light sang in her ears
Sprightly, musical white light.
The salt made her feet tingle
Steaming, soothing salt.
Glass drenched everything
Twisting, summery glass.
Soundful silence
Rueful bliss
Placid insanity

Words
Hiraeth Jun 2017
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But words won't simply hurt me
No, they'll burn more than acid on skin,
Settle like dust on every thought,
Pound me as water would stone
Itch like sand in my eyes
But they'll be the only thing I have left of you when you desert me.

His Heart
Hiraeth Jun 2017
His heart slurred in its steady song
To see her hold another
Her dulcet lips
That used to be his
Were now pressed against another's
His thoughts screamed
His chest burned
Did he deserve this? Had this been earned?
"I suppose so," was all he said
His eyes steeled but his heart bled
It was all his fault,
He thought
But now, he'd learnt his lesson.
He would lock his heart away and let it be lost
And let it remain broken whatever the cost

Grey
Hiraeth Jun 2017
Take me where the sun shines so bright
The shadows are gone
But the light doesn't burn
Take me where the breeze is speckled with laughter
But not one chuckle is pretence
Take me where I can run without being chased,
Fly without falling
And sing without crying.
Take me.
Please.
It's Grey here.
