I stop in my tracks,
Listening

A hollow clinking in the darkness
In an alleyway, somewhat familiar
Vacant and forgotten in the twilight hours
Except for the lingering cigarette smoke
And the scent of dehumanizing hate

And a clink
Low and somehow beneath the dense, dank dark

A sound disillusioning and honed to a fine point, like that of a blade meant to harvest death

A clink
And another clink

There is a man sitting near the end of the alley
At the back of the throat of Hell itself
                                    He has his head down
But through the thick black smudge of night
I can still see the base of a brown glass bottle tap the bottom of an upper row of teeth

He stops, and looks up at me with eyes that resemble mine a little too much for my comfort

He brings the bottle down, and lowers his head, gazing at it as if for the first time
Suddenly he snaps his eyes up to mine, instantly staring into the deep void that is my soul
He smiles a knowing smile, and thrusts the bottle against his teeth one last time.

It does much more than clink.

Wrinkled lips leak twisted tales in your chiseled space between realities
The kids all listen to your great advice
Heeding your misanthropic words and singing your praises

"How right and noble it is to feel so glum and strive to strike down smiles with the tongue
Ma looks on as the children skin Pa to the bone
Better to receive than to give"

         They scream in monotone

I sit back and watch transfixed as this transpires
Thinking on my unforgiven sins and sipping your elixir
Koolaid from the kitchen served in unwashed broken dishes
My only desire is for you to finish spinning your stories

The lies pour forth from the intestines of a sick piglet holed up in the morgue
You couldn't be real to save your life

Your dead eyes drip crocodile tears into my glass
I watch it mix slowly and think out loud:
"You reside in Florida so I guess its appropriate"

But every puddle has it's bottom and your breath is wasted sobbing
When you're sinking just to try and float
So if you'll shut the hell up I'll be much more than happy to slit your ******* throat

There are so many things I wish I could tell you.
The books I've read, & even this dark life I've led
But you aren't here.
How long has it been? 4 years?

I'm going through a lot right now.
Can you see me? Are you looking down?
I wish you could still wipe my tears & tell me it'll be okay.
Help me believe in myself just so I'll make it another day.

I remember when you would hold my face and kiss me on the forehead.
You told me in life I would always be ahead.
I feel like I've proven you wrong. I'm so far behing & I just want to give up,
But I can't. Everytime I try to say goodbye...
I see another Dragonfly.
RIP Aunt Barbara Kay Johnson.

Around here
We make an art of falling down
The plummet is as creative as the pain of the shove
The only beauty is seen from the ground as we stare above

I've lost gallons of blood
Torn miles of skin
But the darkest of my scars
Started within
You called me a friend
Even called me your kin
I was there with you
To see every end
As the sun dipped way down
You told me you'd stay
It was only right
As you'd come to say
But as night gave way
And I lay awake
Opening my eyes
Was unearthing a grave
You died with what I saw in you
Withered and worn
And inside me something changed

*A scar was born
Friends come and go, but the feelings they inspire stay as long as you hold them.

Blurred faces and
     Fuzzy smiles
You say you love me all the while you look at her while tipping back
Vicious facts I look over from the crest of a broken heart
Getting ****** up is a hopeless art
Still we paint a pretty picture of neon lights and first class flights on busy nights
You're too vivid to inhabit my sight
I look the other way as I inhale through gritted teeth
You love her more and love me least
But at least there's love between our sheets
In this room I start to lose my mind only to find sanity was a mountain I climbed and dove from
Into a pool of rose *** I never rose from
I stayed til I felt myself go numb
Then crawled out and never looked back
             I came to you
          Saw change in you
But in the end my neck was snapped from every hug you gave
A slave to a place in your heart too small to breathe
So as I inhale the stench of infidelity

             I realize
I want you but you don't need me
I ******* Hate You ******.
