Joshua Haines
She smells like marmalade
and Christmas trees.
She cuts her heart
where she places her knees.
She smokes in the park,
under the skating skies.
She makes me upset
and sometimes I make her cry.

Over in the dark,
she plays in the snow.
And if she feels cold,
I touch her chest
but I don't know.

Bask in the bark:
our names on a tree.
Carved with the knife
that she swung at me.

She says she's drowning in my ocean,
but I feel no emotion.

Her words suggest our bond
is as strong as a noose.
But she only loved me
when I was something to lose.

She trained for years
Mending mistakes
Accepting the mind of a fighter
Archiving past learned lessons.
Her body bearing the scars
From all the times she had fallen.
So much failure turned into strength,
So much success turned into pride.
And one final battle loomed in the distant future.
She was thoroughly prepared
Been ready for this day since she was 10
She was ready to fight.
She was ready to win.
But once the battle began,
She got hit and turned to dust.
Just like that.
Over in an instant.
Years and years of training.
Gone.

Perfection is in imperfection.
Your scars tell a story.
A story of struggles.
A story of life.
A story of strength.
These lines you write,
a blade as a pen,
have meaning.
They are dangerous,
but so are words.
Share with me what you share with your wrists.
Share your worries.
Your fears.
Your anger.
Your love.
Some secrets deserve to be shared

Sometimes your heart needs to be broken
So you can see what's underneath,
To the flicker and flame of your soul
That you've always been destined to meet.

Sometimes your spirit shines brighter
Through the glimmering light of your tears,
And when you arrive at the end of it all
Love will outshine the darkest of years

A Lovely Lie

The fireflies bloomed an indiscrete love
And we cursed at the shadows
Of an infinite dark.
The good nights remained
In a thought of a kiss.
And we ran
For youth was a liar.
I am a monster.
Whether I was born one,
Or became one does not matter.

I never wanted this.
I hurt myself,
This pain spreading to others.

They want to help me
Or so they say.
I fear them.

I fear them as they fear me.
Their fear surfaces as anger.
A mob at my door to burn me at the stake.

My fear surfaces as pain.
Pain and loneliness.
I shall remain in my castle.

For I am a monster.
I only cause others pain.
It's best if I'm alone.
She touches the flames
Hoping to be burned, marked by
Something beautiful

The last doll on the wall timorous
The last sound in the hall rings separate
The first twinkling in the night glamorous
The first tiptoes through to death arrives
While wading easefully through sleepy skies
Forceful apprehensions are pushing
The detridus rubble mocking all soft cushions
A damaging entanglement of precious threads
Finding yourself where the sidewalk ends
The purifying fog replaced by gloomy smoke
Inhaled once then died the starved dog.
