The Reminder Of Love

Once we were lovers
Then somehow it all changed
Now we act like perfect strangers
Trying to forget each other's names

In your hands you held my heart
Back then it seemed so real
Now my heart it is in pieces
Trying to remember how you feel

When you left it hurt all over
So much more then I could bare
I hid my feelings deep within
Pretending I don't care

No new memories of the good times
Where we walk while holding hands
Just the knowing of a love once strong
That has now come to an end

As we walk away from this love
And go our separate ways
I will always see the love we shared
In the child that they made

Collaborative Poem by: Carl Joseph Roberts &
R.G. Browning
Helped write this for a close friend who had a child with a lady he once loved. Although they now go seperate ways there will always be a reminder of their love with the child that they made.
Words are harmless, so they say,
That's where the problem starts;
Sticks and stones
May break our bones
But words will break our hearts.

Words are harmless, so they say,
And point you to their charts;
It's harmless fun,
No damage done.
But... Who will mend our hearts?

The x-rays show no damage
Where words have scathed across,
But it still feels hard to manage,
And leaves you at a loss.

Words are harmless, don't complain,
That's where the problem starts.
It's quite absurd-
A single word-
Enough to break our hearts!

But words are harmless, they maintain;
The subject of their parts,
No less or more,
So let them pour
From all our broken hearts
“Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts” is a quote I have stolen directly from Robert Fulghum.
In my defence, he'd already stolen half of that quote himself.

There is no such thing as a child of an alcoholic. There are children, and then there are alcoholics. One will never harmonize with the other.

Because alcoholics are never parents. They are shells, empty casings of love mixed with a burning taste of whiskey.

They are echoes of slurred, “Goodnight, I love you.” and “See you in the morning.” Each word filled with love, but blinded by the haze of liquor, so strong it fills your eyes with tears.

But most importantly, a child of an alcoholic will never be a child. No matter their age, they have gained the experience of those five times their age. They have watched life end with each tip of the bottle, but begin again when the sun breaks through their window.

I read stories about children who spend their days without a care in the world. And as a child, I wanted nothing more than that for myself. I wanted the carelessness, not the impossible burden of responsibility and secrecy that I held, hand in hand with resentment and hatred for the people who raised me.

There is no such thing as a child of an alcoholic. It’s not that we don’t exist— we do. But a child will never be a child when their parents can never be a parent.
I'm
falling
for
you,
while
you're
getting
over
me.

To all the loners our there who feel they don’t belong,
One day you will find your special person and once you’re with them, you will never want to be alone again.

And
We are warriors.

[You] are the whisper
          that
floats
        on
the
           wind,
giving me a hope
I never want to end.

[You] are my wish
            from
                a
                              falling
                                          star,
         my lucky penny
in that old glass jar.

[You] are my heart
        that
gentle
            caress,
touching me deep
with such tenderness.

[You] are the shine
      from
that
             silver
         moon,
the word of your promise
a faithful love tune.

[You] are my sun
a
        true
                loving
                        light,
                      stay in my heart
forever shining bright.
