The Ashes Series
the Australians are playing
a good brand of cricket
they've got the English
at sixes and sevens at the wicket

our bowlers seem to be bowling
with much strength
all their delivers
are of a fine line and length

last time we met the English
in an Ashes Series
our Australian team
played like a lot of old ladies

but they've made
some key changes to the team
which shall yield
our cricket side a winning dream

play to-day sees
the English batting at the wicket
they've a bit of work
to do on their cricket

the Australian team
are drilled to perfection
with all their plays
going in the right direction

the Australian's
catching and fielding has improved
we'll be making sure
that all the English are removed

twill be a goodly day
at the Gabba Cricket Ground
watching the English batting
heading outbound
it is small and has
a coat of fur
on this fact we'll
all concur

a dozen or more
were kept at the lab facility
where a researcher  was
testing their reasoning capability

these animals are prolific
breeders
they're extra-ordinary
off spring seeders

they can be problematic
to growers of grain
many years ago there was
an infestation on the western plain

if you see them running
around your house
you'll say unto yourself
them critters ain't grouse
their hearts beat as one, sweet the bell of joy
ever happy doth it play, sweet the bell of joy

aligned so perfectly, affection ringing true
a delight most gay, hark volumes of joy

a bright blissfulness, dwells within the two
harmonic is their array, of such felicitous joy

ever they'll be elated, in utter glorious glee
a most treasured day, heralding with much joy

in sync bells bespeak, mirthful is their song
telling of love's way, so wonderful the joy

Mrs Ranger Part 2
Since Mrs Ranger's remarkable return to good health
She and Doctor Granger have come into wealth
They bought a ticket in the national lottery
To celebrate her startling recovery

Mrs Thrift is taking care of Mrs Ranger's pet dog and home
As the good doctor and Mrs Ranger have gone on holiday to Rome
They plan to be wed at Saint Peters on New Years Day
After that they'll journey to a romantic bay

Mrs Ranger has given her permission
For a story to be told about her chronic health conditions
She's employed a ghost writer to tell the tale
With Doctor Granger advising on the medical details

Electric Car
I dream of owning an electric
car
but to buy one is a dream too
far

with a price tag of above sixty
grand
how can I get that sort of money in my

I only receive a meagre

and to pay it off would take an

I wonder if Elon Musk could loan me some folding

then I'm sure I'd be financial

Dog-Tags (Sonnet Poem)
the many body bags fill with each passing day
conflicts on other soil hath put them there
family and friends hear of deaths far away
where the explosive devices don't care
the troops sent to countries of other view
their arrival greeted with hostility
stepping on foreign tract means a slew
nowhere is there a trace of affability
our soldiers our sons our brothers our boys
engaged in wars where they'll pay profound
military planners implement their ploys
the caskets keep returning to home ground
soldiers wrapped in disposable bags
with serial numbers on their dog-tags
the anthem of an empty soul*
a shell crammed full in nothingness
absolutely nil to this choral tune
vacancy's note played by one sole pan
there's a humdrum to its pitch
packing's plump the missing ingredient

always with an absence of ingredient
starved was this emaciated soul
not having the richest cloven pitch
inside infinite quantities of nothingness
ever the void sound to its pan
a totally scooped out dull tune

zero being in the husk of the tune
this cavernous space possessing no ingredient
like that of a dead hearted pan
as it had but the blankest soul
completely useless this bare nothingness
lacking of an ample vessel's pitch

such was the hopelessness to the pitch
its essence so poorly of tune
deprived this barren nothingness
the inner pith hollow of ingredient
all taken from the lifeless soul
where they'd be a destitute pan

an aimless chord in the pan
containing not a wholeness of pitch
the desert abiding without soul
insolvency was its lasting tune
so hungering for that ingredient
to quell the wretched nothingness

an interior gulf replete in nothingness
needful of feeding with a brimming pan
craving much for the ingredient
that ever opulent barrow of pitch
a human warbling a pitiful tune
this ballad so dismal of soul

ingredient not present, a vast nothingness
soul much overloaded, in an unfurnished pan
*pitch harping the strains, of a unfilled tune

Our New Boss (Sonnet Poem)
Our new boss is a fabulous woman
She takes the time to talk with the staff
The boss before her was a nasty man
Our work environs were as rough as chaff
Everyone is far happier with the lady boss
She listens to all our work place issues
We have lucked it for a caring boss
The department no longer needs tissues
Since they sacked that most unbearable ***
There is a good feel at our work station
Stress leave has been reduced quite a bit
All staff members are full of elation
Our new lady boss is a work place delight
We're so pleased to have her, too right!

A Storm Is Brewing
a storm is brewing
over Bakers Creek
the sound of the thunder
is less than meek

streaks of lightning
have hit the tall gum trees
and scattered
the small native bush bees

grim grey tones
have replaced the sunlight
the tempest is ensuing
with all its might

out of the full clouds
the rain now generously falls
rolling thunder echoes
through the Western wind squalls

on the bare hillsides
the dampness soaks in
giving the soil
a good drench to the skin

the dusty track
is laden with wetness
which leaves a smell
of sweet earthiness

the storm has past
and quietness descends
it is making its way
across the Clerkness wends

then it shall travel
along the Eastern range pines
until it resounds
over the acqua blue coastline

The Crown
there stood the queen
in her dressing gown
upon her face she wore
a very long frown

for she had lost
her diamond and ruby crown
she hoped it would be found
before sundown

she called Scotland Yard
to search every locale
as without her crown
she'd be an unadorned gal

inspector Jones arrived
in his ex-army jeep
telling the queen
that he'd catch the thieving creep

he thoroughly combed
every inch of England
he even looked under
the white Dover sands

a lady in central Manchester
gave him an address
saying that a felon in Soho
had the crown of queen Bess

high and low in the streets
of Soho he did look
to find this most
cunning and stealthiest of crooks

by a measure of luck
he found him sitting on a park bench
he was talking to
a criminal associate named Roger Dench

the inspector seized the felon
and cuffed his hands
saying pilfering won't be tolerated
in any part of England

at Scotland he grilled
him for information
about the queen's crown
which he pinch without hesitation

some three days later
he fronted an Old Bailey judge
who sentenced him
to sixteen years of jail drudge

overjoyed was the queen
to have her crown back
she could now wear it
to The Ascot Race Track

the inspector was knighted
by good queen Bess
as he was a fine man
at the detection profess

The Ballad Of Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt was a bush-ranger
And a gentleman at that
He rode The New England Ranges
In a broad brimmed hat

From Tenterfield to Uralla
His exploits were well know
Stealing the best of horse flesh
The ones with pace in their bones

He was a cunning fellow
Avoiding the constabulary
Hiding in farm houses
With his friends and family

On the way to Tamworth
He was cornered at a rocky outcrop
And met his fatal end
In the form of a gun shot

Outside Uralla
On The New England highway
The rock where he was shot
Bears his name to-day
Dan- Where did you buy your sunglasses at?
Fran- At the Gosford pharmacy, it's the one next to the shop that sells Persian rugs and mats...

Dan- I'll go there tomorrow and buy a pair like yours Fran!
Fran- I think a pair like mine would look terrific on you Dan.

Dan- Are the sunglasses on sale or will I have to pay a fortune?
Fran- The pharmacy is having a sale on sunglasses till the eighteenth of June.

Dan- Thanks Fran!
Fran- You are most welcome Dan...

Dan-I better go and get a bite of lunch at Mike's milk bar.
Fran-Is it okay if I join you, for lunch at the milk bar?

Dan- Sure you can Fran!
Fran- I haven't been out for lunch for some while Dan.

Dan- We'll take a taxi cab there....
Fran- I'll pay for the fare!

Dan- I'll hail the first cab that passes this way!
Fran- There's one parked illegally in the bus parking bay...

a grey dove now coos
on the deep cream painted fence
neath a light cloud sky
an accord of peace shall never be found
while ever the weapons of war resound
man has not heeded lessons from the past
over centuries countless souls killed
endless rivers of blood hath been spilled

an olive branch ushers in tranquility
too many souls lost through inane hostility
the world sees conflict and is most aghast
put down the rifle let it's powder rest
leaders must hear this imploring request

the dove of peace the symbol of brotherhood
may it fly over our orb in quietness
armaments bring vast amounts of sadness
may we have hush in every neighborhood

Skeletal Hull
a brace of wind blew
across the rocky cove
where the hull of a cargo ship lay
twas caught in a torrid tumultuous sea
as it sailed to the port town of Dalmont
strong gales
lashed the deck
and broke the rigging
such disaster
befell the crew
all perished
on that moonless night
with ferocity the elements
did conspire against
the ship and its hapless occupants
no news of where the ship lay
came until 1935
a coastal surveying team
spotted the wreck
a mile out to sea
the ghostly skeletal hull
sat askew on a rock ledge
in a small dingy
they rowed
toward the shore
to make inquiry of the ship's remains
the only object
they found
twas
a twisted navigator's sextant
gorgeous sparkling pinholes
bejewel the night sky's cape
millions of stunning sequins
glistening diamonds

they tell us we must show restraint

as the nation's finances cannot be held down

Fishing Proclamation
the queen was sitting on the throne
but she wasn't sitting alone
the duke was parked up along side of her
and he was talking on the phone

he was making arrangements
to go trout fishing in a Balmoral stream
he asked the queen
if she'd be keen on a spot of fishing in the stream

they then got off their respective seats
and the queen ordered a carriage to her Balmoral retreat
the game park warden there prepared a fishing rod for the two
and they hastened to the stream without further adieu

the duke cast his rod and so did the queen
and they had no luck in catching one single trout
apparently there were thieving
fish poachers about

back at Balmoral Castle the queen
wrote a proclamation
which stated that fish poachers
would be banned in her nation

the queen wasn't well pleased
with the fish thieves stealing

and her proclamation
was quickly dispatched

Let us not argue anymore
About who'll walk to the corner store
We've had this row many times before
It's your undertaking to do the chore.

If you wish to eat fish pie for tea
You'll get your feet going in a hurry!
Stalling and prevaricating won't wash with me
Hop to it you dawdling fuddy duddy.

I'm ****** fed up with all these rows
Are you women always such cows?
Always on the who's and how's
You make me feel like a little girl's blouse.

It's a woman's job to do the shopping
Again you've got me really hopping!
We really should be out there bopping
Although my dancing is really shocking.

We've not been out on the town for years
This corner store walker is now filled with jeers
It may be my job to get the groceries at Sears
But our dancing and romancing have been in arrears...

I'm pretty sure you'll have the last word
But here my argument must be heard
You always treat me like a ****
And claim I'm as mad as George the third.

Darling I've treated you as a sow
Why don't we bring an end to our row
Let us hug a little and make up now
We'll enjoy an intimate pow wow.

What's done is done is what they say
Okay, okay I'll earn my pay
I'm on my way!

In the foothills of the lovely state of Tennessee
All their children have left the Granger compound
They're all traveling to other grounds

The good doctor and his adoring wife
Have now established a retirement life
On Tuesdays and Saturdays they go to the local museum
To show the tourists the many artifacts found at Atkins stream

Yesterday I saw Doctor Granger at the shopping arcade
He asked if I'd team up with Major Rogers to play charades
He said Mrs Granger so enjoys these afternoons of fun
And that she'd be making one of her famous fruit buns

Doctor and Mrs Granger shall soon be going to Tampa Bay
To have a holiday with their friends Doctor and Mrs Day
While they are relaxing in the sun shine
I'll be thinking up some more story lines

tiny ones emerging in propagating boxes
towering giants stand in tropical forests
timber is yelled when felling a tree
thousands chopped down everyday
talented craftsmen designing cedar chiffoniers
teak wood makes a lovely dining suite
thick layers of sawdust on a workshop floor
who's the current holder of the shop's deed*
when did he obtain an ownership creed
we have pondered on this very matter
but no answer has yet come to the fore
that will satisfy our questioning score
we've long thought his plate shingle hung on the gate
with letters saying this is York's estate
though there's little of proprietary clatter
been audible at the place for some while
this has so troubled our concerned bile
on him displaying the paper's freehold
we'll have ken of his legal possession
this will be a rock solid expression
*which is penned in ink ever so bold
paddocks dry cry out for rain
crops all wilting neath the strain
hopes of a harvest gone
drought's grip stays too long
