Repost;

koi fariyaad tere dil mein dabi ** jaise
tune aankhon se koi baat kahi ** jaise

It feels as if there is some request hidden in your heart,
as if you have said something with your eyes.

jaagte jaagte ek umr kaTi ** jaise
jaan baaki hai magar saans ruki ** jaise

It feels like a lifetime has passed, awake,
like there is life remaining, while breath isn't there.

har mulaakat pe mehsoos yehi hota hai
mujhse kuchh teri nazar poochh rahi ** jaise

everytime we meet, I get a feeling
as if your eyes are asking me something.

raah chalte hue aksar yeh Gumaan hota hai
wo nazar chhup ke mujhe dekh rahi ** jaise

while walking down a path, I often feel
like your eyes are watching me from hiding.

ek lamhe mein simaT aaya hai sadiyon ka safar
zindagi tez, bahut tez, chali ** jaise

a journey of ages has wound up in just one moment,
as if life has moved fast, very fast.

is tarah pehron tujhe sochta rehta hoon main
meri har saans tere naam likhi ** jaise

I keep thinking about you for hours in such a way,
as if every breath of mine was just yours.

Junoon Kanha
Ab pehle ki tarah
Abhi na hosh raha
Aur wajah bhi jeene ki jaise
Dheere dheere
khatam Hoti ja Rahi hai

Bewajah
ya
phir wajah

Daru

Pita hu nukkad nukkad me
Aur dhoondta hu ek theekana
Janha Noor Bhari
pyaar hi pyaar **
.

..
Aur na Milne par
Phir se
Sharaab e gulab
Me Nazar
Aur...
Sharaab Ko hi Humsafar ki tarah ghulta doobta ...ek yaad me
Chun Liya ** jaise...
Har waqt
Har lamha
Khyaal e khwaab me

Aur

chamakta Sitara
Ko tootte hue dekha
Toh phir ek mehfil
Aur
khyaal wohi puraane din ke
Aur
aaj bhi yaad karu
Toh Lage naye jaise taaza
gulaab e nasha ...
Aur Ishq Bhari woh aankhein

Kudrat ka karishma ** jaise

..

Aankh khuli
Par Raha toh mein bas ek sharaabi

Yaadein aur woh neele neele amber
Aur oska Chand ki taraf  dekhna
.

Aur
mein niharta ose
Chandni raaton me
Chand se bhi jaida khubsurat
Ose dekhta mein Haqeeqat me
...
...

...
Aur phir ek kaanch ki bottle tooti
mere haathon me
Khyaal aaya
Ki
Ab mein osse bahot dur ** Chuka hu
...bahot dur...

Aur Ishq jaise...
Najane aankhon me kaed
Aaskhq e beedi
Khud Ko jalata
aur
.
.

.
Kitni bhi koshish Karu
Par oska chehra Nazar aa hi jata
..

Agar suraj ki keerne..
Tapti dhup mujh pe de,
Toh jhor se degiye ga…
Kisi ko ye naah toh pata chalegi .. ki hum naraz ya gusse hai bahut!

Agar baarish ** toh..
** jaane digiye ga,
Kisi ko ye na pata chal paaye … ki hum roh rahen hai!

Agar pathte zhareee,
Toh zhar jaane digiye ga..
Kisi toh naa pata kar paaye..
Ki hum aandarse bekhaare huye patho jaise bikhaa rahen h!

Agar thadi ki mausam me thaand de,
Toh bahut khub se digiye ga..
Kisi ko ye naah pata chale..
Ki hum saihum ya daar rahen h..
Andaar aandar se!

Ye mausam hai..
kuch mere zindagi ki tarah…
or humare zindagi ki tarah..
jo hum bayaan toh karte h..
par bahut kaam…
kyuki hume samaj ne wala koi nahi hota!

Ye jab hoti hai.. ya aati hai, jhoor se caati…
Or agar naah aate toh, na hi sahi,..
Par jab aati h…
toh puri zinadgi badal kar rakh deti hai.. !
trying to enjoying the life better :) :)

Pichle 2-3 mahine, it has been disturbing me a lot " I being an Indian ,I being a simple son of this motherland feel hurt ..
Bura lagta haikaaran ye hai log kahte hai hum kuch kar nahi sakte
"Aisa hai karne par aa jaye to bahot kuch kar sakte hai , lekin hum samman karte hai bharat ke sarrwoch nyayalay ka (Supreme court ka )" or uske aadesh ki awhelna nahi karna chahte hai , uske aadesh ka paalan karte hue kuch gaddaro ko aaj v chod rakha hai,

Aap kaise Bhartiya sena ko ****** kah sakte ** sharm karo uss sentence par agar aaj v bacchia surakshit hai if the Indian youth if everybody who ever is doing what ever they want to do if this freedom has been given to them is just because of one thing that Indian Army ,Navy,Airforce, Indian armed forces are fighting for you day and night.
Jab tum sone jaate ** tab unki duty ka waqt shuru hota hai , sharm khao iss baat k lie aur yaad rakho Bharat ko todne ki koshish mat karo

Judai
~~♥~~
Suno jaana
Mujhse kai logo ne pucha hai.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
Me kehta hu
Zara thehro batata hu.
judai kaisi hoti hai.
judai aisi hoti hai.
bhari mehfil me bhi
kahi tanhai me kho jana.
Kirchi kirchi kanch ke
tukdo sa bikhar jana.
Or un tukdo me ek hi bas
ek hi chehere ka nazar ana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Simatna chah kar bhi
khud se na simat pana.
Har kisi ke samne
muskan chehre par le ana.
Dard saare chupane ki
ek nakaam si be-matlab
koshish kiye jaana.
khud apne aap se us
lamhat me nafrat si ** jana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Mulakato ke naam pe
milna u to kai logo se
har chehre me usi bas Usi chehre ko dhundte jaana.
Naam uska apne
lab pe saja lena.
Us ki kahi koi baat
yaad ane par rote hue thahake mar ke hans dena.
Or hans kar ke ek dam se khamosh ** jaana.
Naam uska le kar gir padna.
kai raato tak aansuo se
takiyo ko bigo dena.
Duao me usi ke liye
haatho ko failana.
khwabo or khayalo me
usi se wasta rakhna.
na mil pane ka ghum
is dil ko satana.
Or fir tut kar bikhar jaana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Jhukaye gardan fir kabro me apni lout aa jaana.
Jise ham ghar bhi kehte hai.
Use Suna sa dekh kar kadmo ka theher jaana.
fir na utha pana.
Ye sab kya hai
judai ki nishani hai.
Na mil pana, satana, or har kadam har moud par tut'te bas tut'te jana.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Jaise andheri si gufao me  talash roshni ki ** jaana.
jaise kisi apne ke haatho se haatho ka bichad jana.
Fir na mil pana.
kisi apne ko jata dekh kar
Dur se aawaze laga kar rokna.
Apne haatho ko jhatak na or diwaro pe patak dena.
Or bas kuch na kar pana.
bhari aankho se use
dur hote dekhte jana.
Palkey tak na jhapkana.
Fir aansuo ka jaise
sailab aa jana.
judai ki aag me
jalna,jhulasna
or zinda reh jana.
judai aisi hoti hai.
Judai aisi hoti hai.
Nk Sairam :)
Jeet ka yu koi juluus niklaa hai ,
Dil haarne me hi jaise mazaa **....
Kyaa kare dosto ? Waqt ,waqt ka  ye takazaa hai ,
Jo humare dil ko yuhi jaise tatolta **....
Pyar ne humhey zindagi sey mila diya , ishq aur zindadili ka jaise intezaar **...
Yehi iltajaa hai raab  sey , ki ishq he humari ibadat **....
Ishq he hamari ibadat **....

Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum behad khoobsurat **.
Ye jo tumne akhon ke kajal ko b palko ki had me dal rakha hai.
In aankhon ne jane kitna kehar sambhal rakha hai.
Kya chamak hai aankho me jaise ek choti si khush duniya ka sapna paal rakha hai.
Socha cheru thoda tumhe or thoda sata du.
Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum nazneen **.
Phir kuch tumhare galon k un khaddo ki gehrayi dekhi.
Na us se gehri koi khaayi dekhi.
Nazar htane wala tha k us muskan ne rok lia..
Muje aj sambhalne se pehle tere chehre nadan ne rok lia.
Jane tumhe ye sab kehna lagta hai khata kyu.
Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum dilnashi **.
Vo choti si kali bindi jo thik maathe k me kahi hai.
Vo b har shayar ko kheench rahi hai.
Jaise muje kehti ** idhar aao tumhe kano k jhumko ka pta du.
Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum dalkashi **.
Ye phir thode uljhe thode suljhe baal hai.
Inki to ada hi bemisal Hai
Tumhe tang karte hai.
Manmarji chalate hai jaise tujse jung karte hai.
Chere pe aate hai tum unhe phir peeche karti.
Kabhi clip se kabhi rubber se kheenche rakhti **.
Kabhi aaye chehre pe to shayad main b hta du.
Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum koi kehkasha **.
Or vo sone ki nath ko koi
kaise taal sakta hai.
Jise tumne apni teekhi si naak me daal rakha hai.
Or kuch batein in sab se pare hai.
Tera chutkan sa Gussa hai jane tu kaise handle kare hai.
Phir vo pyari si hasi vo sharm haya  vo bachpana vo nadaniya.
Samjhdari vo nasamjhi
Vo adayein vo shaitaniya.
Or sambko tumne brabar rakha hai.
Jane ye hisab kaise lagakar rakha hai.
Kya kehna hai kya sunna hai kya bolna hai kya btana.
Kab ruthna hai kab manana hai kab satana hai kab jatana hai.
Teri har ek choti moti khoobiyon ne dil me aatank macha rakha hu.
Jane tune kitne salo se khud ko ishq se bacha rakha hai.
Jane mujme kab se or kyu ye thode guroor k lakshan aaye hai
K tuje suna sabne hai samjh sirf hum paaye hai.
Tum jaisa or koi mere aas paas ni hai.
Phir kaise manliya jaye tum aam ladki ** tum me kuch  khas nahi hai.
Ha aj maine ek kadam apne beech ki sarhad se thoda bahar aaya.
Tumne apna hunar azmaya tha vo pic dalke use shayri bnake maine apna hunar aazmaya hai.
ye padhke tum socho k inam du is shayar ko ya koi saza du.
Are tumhe dekha aj to lga ye sab tumhe bta du.
Haq hai nhi mera koi phir b thoda haq jata du ..
Or kehdu tum afreen **.

Tum khoobsurat **.

ek hawa ka jhonka aaya,
sang apne tere hone ka ehsaas laya,
chookar mujhe vo kuj is tarah,
laut gaya jaise k aakar tum chale jate **,
ek hawa ka jhonka aaya,
sang apne teri khushboo laya,
mahkaya har taraf kuj is tarah,
k jaise tum pal bhar me mujhme sama jate **,
aur fir se mujhse door chale jate **,
ek hawa ka jhonka aaya,
sang apne kuj khatti mithi yaden laya,
thoda sa hansaya thoda sa rulaya,
kuj is tarh tumko mere paas bulaya,
jaise k pal bhar me tum mujhe apna bana k agle pal rooth jate **,
aur thodi c khushi k baad gam mujhe de jate **,
ek hawa ka jhinka aaya,
mujhe chookar vapas chala gaya,
kuj is tarah k jaise tum mujhse lipat jate **,
sab kuj bhool jate **,
mujhe pyar karte **,
har khushi apni mujhme hi tarash lete **,
aur fir vo waqt aata hai k door chale jate **,

Zindagi aapse hi khubsurat hai humari,

Aapke sang hi rehna humein umar saari.

Har janam aap hi humsafar ** humare,

Yahi dua hai us neeli chhatri wale se.

Ye dhadkane bhi ruk si jaati hai aapse jab baat ni hoti,

Aapki wo tagri daant bhi sacchi humein bhut pyaari lagti.

Is Dil ki har dhadkan Kuch kehna hai chahti,

Sirf aur sirf aapke pass rehna chahti ji.

Aapka Naam hi tou humare naam ko pura krta,

Aapki muskaan dekh ke hi ye dil humara bhi dhadakta.

Ye meelon dur ki duriya humara Kuch ni bigaad sakti,

Aapki tasveer seene se lagake hi Roz soti.

Ek aap hi apne apne se lagte **,

Aap pass ** tou bhul jau duniya ko.

Kaise kahu mai aap kitna mayne rakhte **,

Jo dua us ishwar ke darwaze pr roz hum Kare wo puri **.

Humesha har kadam par saath saath rahein hum dono,

Koi bhi Juda na kar paaye humko.

Aap Jaise fikar karte, pyaar karte aise koi bhi nahi kar sakta,

Is sacchi mohabbat sacchi shiddat se hi jeene ka dil karta.

Jeene ka sahara jeene Ka matlab hi aapse hai mere saathiya,

Aap saath ** tou saanse chalti hain mere mahiya.

Mai hu aapki in haathon ki lakeero mein,

Aapko paakar sabse qismat wala bna Diya uparwale ne.

Khushnaseeb hai humari taqdeer jo aap humko mile.

Aapke aane se zindagi mein phul khile.

Jo labz  hothon se keh Nahi paate,

Wo bhi aap samajh ** jaate.

Dil Ka dard jab bayan Nahi karte,

Wo bhi aap itni dur se pata laga lete.

Har dard har jhakam apne aap thik ** jaata,

Jab ye Dil us pyaare se Dil ke seene se lag ke sukoon paata.

In hawao ki sarsarahat ke zariye wo ehsaas bhejna,

Humesha Aapke Saath Hu sunnu ji aapka ye kehna.

Sacchi beintehaa sukoon deta is rooh ko,

Ishwar humesha mehfooz rakhe aapko.

Kadi dhup ki pyaari si chaav aap ban jate,

Har Khushi har aansu ek dusre se baat te.

Wo hi hain zindagi Ke sabse pyaare lamhe har dard bhi lete ** bhaap,

**** se tou har koi pyaar kr leta rooh mein basna kise kehte uski misaal ** aap.

Bhagwaan ji mujhe maaf kr dena,

Aapse bhi badhkar Kisi ko maine samjha.

Inke saamne sajda mai jab bhi karti,

Meri bandagi zindagi dono puri ** jati.

Agar rabb mujhse puche ki tumhein kya du

Mai bina soche bas Aapka naam keh aapko maang lu.

Aap bhale hi duniya ke liye ek insaan **,

Mere liye tou aap hi puri duniya **.

Zindagi ** tou aapke saath warna,

Koi zindagi bhi nahi chahiye mere khuda.

Aapke saath jiyenge aapke sang hi marenge,

Kuch Nahi chahiye humein neele aasman ke neeche bhi aapke sang reh lenge.

Bs aap humesha humare pass humare saath rehna,

Isse jyada Kuch Nahi humko kehna.

Kagaz ki kashtiyon mein kai bar safar kar liya,
ab ek lambi udan bhar lene do.
Aj in bandhe hue pankhon ko khuli hava mein sans le lene do,
kyunki ab girne ka khauff nahin raha.

Daudne mein ab koi maza nahin hai,
kyunki yahan to hava jaise tham si gayi **.
Ab rukne ka bilkul man nahin raha,
aj to toofanon mein sair karne lene do.

Dayron mein rehte hue adhi zindagi guzar gayi,
aj to un hadon ko par kar lene do.
Dar dar ke kab tak khamosh rahoge dost,
zameen par jeet jane mein kuch nahin rakha ,
aj to uchaiyon par jashn mana lene do.

Unke chale hue raston ko kai bar nap liya,
aj mujhe bhi apni pehchan bana lene do.
Kismat ka rona to sabhi rote hain,
aj mujhe bhi apne naseeb ka kora kagaz rang lene do.

Kabhi kabhi to man karta hai ki
un azad parindon ki tarah hava mein bas tairta hi reh jaoon.
Asan to kuch nahin par sochta *** ki
aj namumkin ko hi apna dost bana loon.

Kitabon ke panne kafi palat liye,
aj mujhe bhi do shabd likh lene do.
Hans lene do jinhe hansna hai mere in mazboot iradon par.
Kya samjhenege who is khuli udan ki masti ko,
jinhe kabhi bharosa nahin hua khud par,
aur hamesha rakha tha apne armanon ko pinjre mein kaid kar.

Khule asman mein aj ek bar ud lene do,
kya pata kal wahan bhi zaroorat se jyada bheed **.
Kai dinon ke bad aj ek bar fir azad hone ka man kiya hai
Tod do in bediyon ko, kyunki aj ek lambi udaan bharne ka iraada hai
Aap
Ek naadan parinde ka haath aapne thaama,
Apne dil mein diya sabse khubsurat thikana.

Phool ki mehak ko jaata nahi churaya.
Suraj ki kirne ko jaata nahi chupaya.

Khuda ne itna sikhaya hai mujhe,
Aapke liye dua karu khud se pehle.

Mere dil ka dard kisne hai dekha,
Ye dost muskaan ke peeche ki kahani padh leta.

Vaada karte hain ye rishta dil se nibhayenge,
Aapki shiddat mein hadd se guzar jayenge.

Dil se maangi thi dua rabb se,
Qubool hui ibadat mulakaat hui jab aapse.

Duniya ki daulat hey ishwar nahi chahiye mujhe,
Sabse anmol tohfa mila jo jud gaye sanjog unse.

Dadhkano ki dadhakti har awaaz hai sirf unki,
Pyaar mein tabdil ** gayi hamari dosti.

Chand sa hai mukhda,
Mere jigar ka tukda.

Bin tere jiyenge ab hum na ek pal,
Tujhse juda hai aane wala har kal.

Bhut sataya humne aapko aapka jawab dene mein,
Hanji hum bhi chahte hain aapko aapki shiddat se.

Jud gye dil se dil tak,
Mujh par sirf hai aapka hakk.

Rooh se rooh ka rishta hai hamara,
Tujh bin ek pal nahi humein gavara.

Chadha diya hum par rang apna,
Poora hua ek pyaara sa sapna.

Aasman mein jab tak sitaro ka hai basera,
Ek dusre ka hain hum sahara.

Meri zindagi ke saaton janam hai aapke naam,
Aapke hi rahenge hum bheja khuda ko paigaam.

Pyaar mera rago mein lahu ban daude,
Apna sab kuch tum par qurbaan kar de.

Tum saath ** tou zindagi mein hai bahaar,
Tere bina zindagi bhi hai meri bekaar.

Khuda kasam har saans sirf tumhari,
Tumse hi judi hai zindagi hamari.

Rabb jaane kya lekh likhe unhone,
Milaya hai jab aage bhi whi sambhale.

Mai teri ** gayi haa mahiya,
Har kadam saath hain hum saathiya.

Rabb se pehle tumko yaad kiya,
Apna dil tumhe de diya .

Sacchi mohabbat tumse kar baithe,
Pta nahi chala kab hum aapke ** gye.

Zindagi se judi hai hayat aapki,
Aapka pyaar jaise maa ki thapki.

Har mod par saath hai aapke,
Chahe waqt kitni karwat badal le.

Aapki pagli sirf aapki hai yaara,
Tum bin kaun hai hamara.

Intezaar hai besabri se humein us din ka,
Jis din aapke naam se judega naam hamara.

Aapka har dukh hamara hai sajna,
Hamari har khushi par naam hai aapka.

Tumko bhi hai khabar,
Aye mere humsafar.

Maut ki gaud mein sone ke baad bhi,
Alwida nahi hai kehna humein kabhi.

Gujarish hai khuda se ,
Kabhi juda na karna unse.

Ek sang hi mitti ki chadar odh so jayenge,
Sacchi mohabbat dil se nibhayenge.

Mohabbat se kai upar hai mohaabat aapse,
Aisa koi shabd nahi jo ise piro ske.

Chaha tha humesha se humsafar mahadev jaisa,
Qubool hui dua hamari jo mila mahiya aisa.

Dilon ki awaaz mein hai itna asar,
Yaad kare joo ** jaati hai khabar.

Ibadat karne ka wo khubsurat lamha mile,
Tou hum apne humsafar  ke saamne sajda kar le.
Kanyadaan hua jab pura, Aaya samay vidayi ka
Hashi khushi sab kaam hua tha, Saari rashmm adaai ka
Beti ke uss kaatar swar ne , Baabul ko jhakjhor dia
Puch rahi thi papa tumne, Kya sach-much me chodd dia

Apne aangan ki phulwari, Mujhko sada kaha tumne
Mere rone ko pal bhar bhi, Bilkul nahi saha tumne
Kya iss aangan ke kone me, Mera kuch asthan nahi
Ab mere rone ka papa, Tumko bilkul dhyan nahi

Dekho antim baar dehri, Log mujhhe pujwaate hai
Aakar ke papa inko kyu, Aap nahi dhamkate hai
Nahi rokte chacha taau, Bhaiya se v aas nahi
Aisi bhi kya nishthurta hai, Koi aata paas nahi

Beti ki baato ko sun ke, Pita nahi rah saka khada

Phool sabhi ghar ki phoolwari se koi jyo been chala
Chota bhai bhi kone me, Baitha biatha subak raha
Usko kaun karega chup ab, Wah kone me dubak raha

Beti ke jaane par ghar ne, Jaane kya kya khoya hai
Kabhi naa rone wala baap bhi, Phoot-Phoot kar roya hai ............

Maa teri meri yadein boht achi thi
Tu jo bhi kehti thi boht sachi thi,

Yaad hai mujhe aaj bhi wo pal maa
Bimaar mai hoti thi taklif tujhe hua karti thi,

Tu kabhi na bhuli mere khane ka samey maa...
Qki maa tu hi toh khane ki plate mere aggey piche ghumaya karti thi,

Wo teri aloo, pyaz wali khaniya maa
Jisko sunn k sach mai maan liya karti thi,

Kya khub sundarta thi tere bhole se chehre pay maa...
Jo meri saheliya bhi gunn tera hi gaya karti thi,
Maa ...qki teri meri yadein boht achi thi
Tu jo bhi kehti thi boht sachi thi,

Jab pehli baar un chote se hathon se chai bnayi thi maine
Yaad hai , tu sab rishtedaro mai yahi gaya karti thi,

Har baat k liye zidd bht ki Maine tujhse
Par aakhir mai meri khushi k liye haa tu hi bharrti thi,

Bht ladai ki sabne mere liye tujhse maa
Lekin har pal sath khadi tu hi mila karti thi,

Maa teri meri yadein boht achi thi
Tu jo bhi kehti thi boht sachi thi,

Bht si horror movies bhi dekhi tere sath maa aur tu kahani ka pehlu phele hi bta diya karti thi,

Bht hase bhi sath mai roye bhi sath mai
Aaj jab dekhti hu toh ansu apne aap nikal k beh jate hai,
Bachpana samjho ya nadaniya samjho
Par tere hi aggey hua karti thi,

Tu Maa thi ya meri dost thi
Qki tu bhi toh bacho jaise harketin kiya karti thi,

Aaj bhi wahi tera chehra dikhta hai mujhe maa , teri wahi awaaz sunayi deti hai,
Lekin bevas tu hai ya mai hu aisa mnn mera kehta hai maa,

Qki maa teri meri yadein bht achi thi
Sach mai Tu jo bhi kehti thi bht sachi thi.

Qki jhuti ya sachi sab maan liya karti thi,

Yaad hai mujhe aaj bhi jab scooty meri band hoti thi
Toh kick tu hi mara karti thi,

Wah kya paranthe aur rajma banati thi maa tu
Jo saheliya hi sabse phele khaya karti thi,

Itni sachi aur achi maa thi tu
Warna mujh jaise nalayak bache ko tu hi sambhala karti thi,

Maa dubara se wo maa sabd tere aggey tujhe bolna chahti hu fir se
Kya tu dubara janam legi milne k liye mujhse,

Ek baar toh ake gale lga le maa mujhko
Fir se wahi pyara bacha bnke dikhaungi tujhko,

Yaad hai maa mumma's lil girl ka tattoo maine bnwaya tha tere liye
Lekin jab ghar pauchi toh dekhte hi dil baith gya tha mere liye
Maa tu sda zinda rahegi dil mai mere
Qki Sach keh rahi hu mera wajood hi hai tere liye,

Maa bharosa kar mera
bharosa nahi todungi tera
Ab aa hi jana maa bacha hu tera.

TOH ZINDA ** TUM.....
I feel like falling in love once again...
When I listen to this song...
I feel like a teenager again..
When I read the lyrics line by line...

Dilon mein tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe **.Toh zinda ** tum!

When you carry restlessness in your heart,
then you are ALIVE

Nazar mein khwaabon ki bijliyan leke chal rahe **
Toh zinda ** tum!

When you carry dreams in your sight,
then you are ALIVE

Hawa ke jhonkon ke jaise aazad rehna seekho
Tum ek dariya ke jaise, leharon mein behna seekho
Har ek lamhe se tum milo khole apni baahein
Har ek pal ek naya samaa dekhiye

Learn to be free like the swaying air around you
Learn to flow like the tide flows with the water
Meet every moment of your life with open arms
and experience newness every second you live

Jo apni aankhon mein hairaniyan leke chal rahe **
Toh zinda ** tum!
When you carry wonder in your eyes,
then you are ALIVE

Dilon mein tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe **
Toh zinda ** tum!
When you carry anxiety in your heart,
then you are ALIVE
This is my favourite Urdu language shayari(poem) by the famous Javed Akhtar.
Main tumhe dhundhne swarg ke dwar tak,
roj jaata raha, roj aata raha.
Tum gazal ban gayi ban gayi,
geet me dhal gayi,
Manch se main tumhe gungunata raha.

Zindagi ke sabhi raste ek the,
sabki manzil tumhare chayan tak rahi.
aprakashit rahe peer ke upnishad,
man ki gopan kathayein nayan tak rahi,
Praan ke pristh par preet ki vartani
tum mitati rahi, mai banata raha

Main tumhe dhundhne swarg ke dwar tak,
roj jaata raha, roj aata raha.
Tum gazal ban gayi ban gayi, geet me dhal gayi,
Manch se mai tumhe gungunata raha.

Ek khamosh halchal bani zindagi,
gehra thehra hua jal bani zindagi,
tum bina jaise mehlon me beeta hua
urmila ka koi pal bani zindagi.
drishti akaash me aas ka ek diya
tum bujhaati rahi mai jalaata raha.
Main tumhe dhundhne swarg ke dwar tak..

Main tumhe dhundhne swarg ke dwar tak,
roj jaata raha, roj aata raha.
Tum gazal ban gayi ban gayi,
geet me dhal gayi,
Manch se main tumhe gungunata raha.

Main tumhe dhundhne swarg ke dwar tak..!!

Tum bin
Mein kohre ki Dhoop dhoondta
Ek shikhar aashiqui sapne liye
Mann hi Mann ghumta
Wajeeb noor e rooshwayi
Dhoobta mein jalta khud hi khud me
Ek bebasi
ek dariyaan
Ek muhabbat e muskurahat
Teri woh jhilmil si jheel si Nazar
Aur nazaro nazaro me dhoondta dil pyaar ke sukun ke woh Lamhe!!!

Aapka saath humein har janam mein mile,
Dua hai hamari aapke jivan mein phul khile.

Sabse khushnaseeb hai hum mere humsafar,
Jo aapka saath hai hamare saath har dagar.

Meri rooh ka rishta hai gehra us rooh se,
Chehra basa hai sirf aapka dil ki tasveer mein.

Sagar ki gehrayi bhi kam hai is mohabbat ke saamne,
Beinteha mohabbat hai tumse kehti hai dadhkane.

Ruke na zindagi me hamare pyaar ki hawa,
Hum tumhare hain tum hamare oo humnawa.

Sukoon milta hai sun khud ka naam aapke saath,
Jaise koi subah judi ** shaam ke saath.

Meri haathon ki lakeere, mehandi sirf aap **,
Har pal aapka hi rehta hai khayal humko.

Qubool ** gayi har dua tumhari,
Jab se mili hain saanse hamari.

Dil ki gehrayi se chand ki roshni se,
Kehna chahte hain hum kuch aapse.

Phulo ke kagaz par likhte hain kuch labz,
Beinteha mohabbat hai har lamha har nabz.

Jaati nahi aankhon se surat aapki,
Aapki zindagi mein rang bharne ki kasam khayi.

Mil gaye humein hamare bholenaath,
Jab se mila is khaas dost ka saath .

Aapko dekhte hi ** jaata hai dil bekaraar,
Aapko mile khushiyan beshumaar.

Jab saath hai aapka dil mein dadhkan ki jagah,
Fir zindagi ko saanso ki jaroorat kahan.

Rabb se yhi ibadat mein karte hain fariyaad,
Ye jodi yu hi banaye rakhna kr tumhe yaad.

Kabhi ruth na jaana humse piya,
Saath rehne ka vaada hai kiya .

Jabse mehsoos kiya is dil ne aapko,
Milne gayi zameen par jannat humko.

Pyaar saccha ** tou waqt bhi Ruk hai jaata,
Is pavitra rishtey ke liye aasman bhi jukh jaata.

Aapse shuru hote hain hum aapke saath hi khatam,
Saath rahenge aapke har janam mere sanam.
FIR AAYI HOLI

Fir aayi Holi ek baar, fir le gayi mere  dil ka karaar;

Puchhna chahti hu, kyu rulateho tum mujhe yuhi, baar baar.

Itne rango ke beech bhi hei tan man feeka; aankhoki pichkaarise behte hei aansu zaar zaar

Saalo beet chuke firbhi nazar dekhti hei teri raah, lagaataar.

Radha ka pyaar hi hei kuch aisa, maanta nahi yeh kabhi haar

Jaise kanha ke beena Radha adhuri aise hi, piya- milan beena, Holi hei  adhuri.

Kanha tere beena rang feeke, Chand feeka; soona lage mohe sansaar.

Aa bhi ja Mohan, itna ne tadpa, raah niharu tori; kab aayega tu jamuna paar.

Teri Payal Agar Chhanak Jaye
Gardish-e-Asmaan Titthak Jaye

If your anklets, made a sound
Spinning of heavens, would pause

Tere Hansne Ki Kaifiyat Tauba
Jaise Bijli Chamak Chamak Jaye

Nature of your laughter, God forbid!
Like bolts and flashes, lightning draws

Teri Gardan Ka Tazkira Sun Kar
Jo Surahi Hai Woh Chhalak Jaye

Hearing, portrayal of your neck
Even a goglet, overflows

Le Agar Jhoom Kar Tu Angrai
Zindagi Daar Par Latak Jaye

Twirling, if you pandiculate
Existence, would hang by the ropes

Choor Hai Aise Paakpan Tera
Jaise Das Das Ke Saamp Thak Jaye

Broken to atoms is your innocence
Like once bitten fatigue a snake shows

Teri Ankhoon Ko Dekh Paiye Agar
Jo Farishta ** Woh Bahak Jaye*

If one wins to see your eyes
Even an angelic, deluded grows

Zindagi ka har khwaab pure **…
Wo zaruri nahi hota,
Khwaishein hai.. bahut saare.. humarae dil me,
Jo toote khwaab jaise.

Adure khwaab … adure khwaishein jaise,
Jo kabhi kisi ke liye maye ne nahi raheta,
Or shayed mere liye bhi nahi…
Ya dar ne humko rokh rakha hai.
Janjiron ne humko baandh rakhi hai…
Jaane kya pata hum kabhi janjiron se nikal payenge bhi ya nahi…!

Kahete hai waqt hum sabko badal deti hai,
Shayed hume bhi…!
Kya hum kabhi humare toote khwaab…
Khwaishiyon ko puri kar bhi payenge bhi…
Ye fhir… sab aduree hi rahe jayegi…
Ye toh waqt hi humko batayega..!

Sare jahan se pyara ye hindostan hamara,
Na ruke the hum na rukenge kabhi,
Badhate chale jayenge lekar yahi nara,
Sare jahan se pyara ye hindostan hamara,

Geet gate chalenge, hath milate chalenge,
Raksha karne ka pran lekar hum apna sar katate chalenge,
Na jhukaye the hum, na jhukayenge kabhi
Mita denge khud ko apne desh ke liye yahi hain pran hamara,
Sare jahan se pyara ye hindostan hamara,

Dekhlo ai dusmano hum pith pichhe war karne wale kayar nahi,
Hum sher hain apne desh ka tum jaise kayar nahi,.
Uncha rahega sda ye TINRANGA hamara,
Sare jahan se pyara ye hindostan hamara,

Kaise bhula de wo sahidon ki purani yaadein,
Jinhone khud ko mita di es desh ki suraksha ke liye,
Chhod chale gye wo khun se latfath yaadein,
Etihas ke panno me likhenge dobara,
Vishwa me sabse uper rahega
Ye hindostan hamara,
hindostan hamara......

Nahi chahiye sobhagay aisa,
Jisme rukmini Krishna ki patrani ban gayi.

Nahi karna tap mujhe,
Jaise Parvati shiv ki ardhangini ban gayi.

Aur nahi bana aise ,
Raam ki sita Jo apne,
Pavitrata ke liye ,
Aag me jalke ,
Mitti se Pani ban gayi.

Likh apne pyaar ki adhuri si kahani ,
Jaise ek priye ban gayi apne saaware ki diwani ,
Ha ,
Mujhe bhi bana h vo Radha
Jo apne pyaar Mei,
Radha se Krishna ki
RADHA RANI
Ban gayi!
Radhe radhe,radhe Krishna!
Dil ki kalam se kuch likhte hain aahat,
Bn chuke hain aap hamari aadat.

Aapki pyaari si muskurahat dekh jo sukoon milta,
Hamara masoom chehra bhi nanhi kali jaise khilta.

Saanso mein chupi har hayat hai aapki,
Jab aap hain saath sawar jayegi zindagi.

Do pal bhi nahi reh sakte aapke bin,
Raatein kat jaati taare gin gin.

Naam aapka pehchaan hai hamari,
Har dadhkan ki awaaz hai tumhari.

Hothon par muskurahat hai aapke naam ki,
Aapke khayalon mein uljhe raat se subah ** jaati.

Qubool ** gayi dua hamari,
Mil jo gayi humein chahat tumhari.

Nahi hai koi Chah ab hamari,
Jabse judi humse dadhkane tumhari.

Jazbaaton ka sagar hai gehra,
Dil mein hai humsafar ka basera.

Mohabbat ka rang aisa chhadhaya hai tumne,
Feeke lagne lage har rang iske saamne.

Jaane kis qadar imtehaan leta hai khuda,
Bs gujarish hai usse karna na kabhi juda.

Jab tak dadhkane chal rahi hain unki,
Zindagi ki har saanse hai sanam sir aapki.

Jahan mera humsafar **,
De dena jagah humko.

Har kadam par saath chalna piya mere,
Jeene ka shauk nahi ek pal bhi bin tere.

Har pal sirf aapko yaad hain karte,
Jaane kab mitange ye meelon ke faasle.

Saath nibhayenge har mod par aapka,
Tumhare andar paya humne khuda apna.

Shiddat se itna chahte hai tumhe,
Labzo mein baya nahi hum kar skte.

Aisa koi labz nahi jo is sacchi mohabbat ko sanjo le,
Mohabbat se kai upar hai ye mohabbat jisko koi naam na de .

Teri mohabbat ki khusboo me
Hum es kadar rang jayenge,
Hasin hoga mausam bhi
Jab teri yadon me hum kho jayenge,
Nind se khulegi jab ye palaken meri
Apne samne tujhe hi payenge,
Tujhe hi payenge....

Khuli khuli ye julafen teri
Madahosh kar deti mujhe,
Ankhon ki ye kali kali kajal Teri
Apni or khich leti mujhe,

Teri  othon ki ye gulabi rang
jaise gulab ki pankhuriyan,
Kaise sahun tere bin
ekpal ki bhi ye duriyan,

Jiyenge hum tere sath
tere sath hi mar jayenge,
Teri mohabbat ki khusboo
me sanam hum
eskadar rang jayenge,
Eskadar rang jayenge...
Mein phir waqt e sharabi
Shubah ko shaam ki tarah dekhta
Purane waqt ki nadiyaan behne lagi...
Jaisi dil e kaabil na kaabil ek tanhai me
Dard e jaam
Dua e adhura haqeeqat
Gehri si haweli

Yaadon ka

Aapke saath bitiya har pal hai khubsurat,
Aapka masoom sa chehra hai khuda ki murat.

Bahut yaad aa rhi hai aapki,
Talaash rahi aapko nazre meri.

Wo aapka muskurana jab kehte hum awaaz aa rahi,
Har lamha itna khubsurat hai in palkon mein yaadein sanjo rakhi.

Aapse shuru hota hai hamara har ek kadam,
Beintehaa mohaabat hai aapse saath rahenge har janam.

Bs ek dua hai us uparwale se,
Aap humesha salamat rahe.

Mohabbat hi nahi zindagi bhi ** meri,
Ye dadhakne aapko pukar rahi.

Khuda se maangi huyi ** mannat,
Aapke saath har pal hai jannat.

Meri duniya ** aap,
Har takleef lete ** bhaap.

Bin kahe sab samjh jaate,
In aankhon ko kaise padh lete?

Dil se jude jazbaat hain gehre,
Aapke aane se khil uthte chehre.

Meri taqdeer, meri jaan ** aap,
Ek geet ka khubsurat alaap.

Wohi pyar ka mandir ** aap, mera jaha,
Jise humne dil se humesha chaha.

Mahadev jaisa ** humsafar,
Chale jo saath har dagar.

Humesha se chaha tha humne,
Us talaash ko poora kar diya aapne.

Paavan pavitra rooh se jude hain is qadar hum,
Jaise saanso se dadhakta hai dil har dum.

Is dadhakte dil ki awaaz ** tum,
Aapse poore hote hain hum.

Pyaasi nigahon ka ** Qaraar,
Saji mehfilon ki bahaar.

Milne ki fariyaad mein dil ka intezaar,
Meri zindagi ka pehla aur aakhiri pyaar.

Shiddat se chahta hai ye dil aapko,
Saare jaha ki khushiyan aapke kadmo mein **.

Mehfooz rakhna mere humsafar ko mere khuda,
Is sacchi mohabbat ka karu sir jhuka kar mai har pal sajda.

Pavitra rishta hai hamara,
Is dil se juda hai dil tumhara.

Hamari Sanson Mein Aaj Tak
Woh Heena Ki Khushbhoo Mehak Rahi Hai
Labon Pe Naghme Machal Rahe Hain
Nazar Se Masti Jhalak Rahi Hai*

O’ even today within my breathes
That sweet smell of henna is still lingering
Upon the lips songs are way-warding
And with mischief, the glances are twinkling

Woh Mere Nazdeek Aate Aate
Haya Se Ek Din Simat Gaye Thay
Mere Khayalon Mein Aaj Tak
Woh Badan Ki Daali Latak Rahi Hai

O’ inching towards me,
One day he shyly gathered himself
Till today, within my thoughts
His body's youthfulness is still swaying

Sada Jo Dil Se Nikal Rahi Hai
Woh Sher-o-Naghmon Mein Dhal Rahi Hai
Ke Dil Ke Aangan Mein Jaise
Koi Ghazal Ki Dhaandhar Khanak Rahi Hai

O’ this cry coming from within my heart
Finds its way into verses and songs
As if in the courtyard of my heart
Beat of a poem is throbbing

Tadap Mere Bekharar Dil Ki
Kabhi To Unpay Asar Kare Gi
Kabhi To Woh Bhi Jaleinge Isme
Jo Aag Dil Mein Dahek Rahi Hai

O’ my restless heart's tremor
Will surely affect him one day
Someday, he too will burn
In the fire of my heart which is raging

Aaj fhir yaad aayi teri,
Mushkuraa ke dil boli,
Bahut saari baatein rahe gayi thi humari…
Aapse.. kahena tha …
jo humesha- humesha ke liye rahe gayi aduri!

Khwaab jo souchaa tho,
Woh aab kabhi puri na ** sakki,
Kitni baatein thi kaheni ki… tumko,
Par aduri khwaab jaise meet gaye, dil se sab!

Jaise raith(sand) pe likhe woye jo baatein…
Ek hawa ke jhoke(air blow) se mit gaye… sab!

Khaas woh pal phir se aata,
Par shayed humne kafi der kar di,
Wapaas aane me…
tumko aapna ne me…!
Bs ek tamanna hai agar janam mile fir se,
Meri sacchi mohabat mujhe har janam mein mile.

Zindagi ka har pal khubsurat hai jab aap saath **,
ye dil shiddat se chahta hai sirf aapko.

Aap dharti kya jahan bhi honge,
Aapki khusbu se hum aapko pehchaan lenge.

Aankh band kar dadhkano se pehchaan lenge,
Din maheene saal guzarte jayenge.

Pyar mein aapke har pal har lamha badhte jayenge,
Jab jab janam lenge hum sirf aur sirf aapke rahenge.

Ye dil sirf us dadhkan ki hai pehchaan,
Aapki rooh mein basti hai hamari jaan.

Har dua mein us rabb se hum aapko maangte,
Is dil mein sirf aap hi ** rehte.

Dil bhi bekaraar hain aapse milne ko,
Khushnaseeb hain hum jo aap humein mile **.

Saare jahan ki hasi aapke labe par saja de khuda,
Aapse  kabhi nahi hongey hum juda.

Har saans par hamari hai aapka naam,
Aapke bin zindagi hai gumnaam.

Chand ki chandani madhamm padh sakti,
Phulon ki khusbu feeki ** jaati.

Hamari sacchi mohabbat ki khusbu is qadar faile,
Ki dharti ke yug bhi kam padh jaaye.

Karte hain kkhuda se hum gujarish,
Aapki mohabbat ke siwa koi bandagi ki na ** baarish.

Chahe hazaaron dafa waqt le le hamare imtehaan,
Nahi chhodenge hum aapka saath meri jaan.

Kuch ehsaason ke saaye dil ko chhu jaate,
Zindagi mein phul khil jaate jha aap kadam rakhte.

Gulaab tou kaaton mein bhi khila hain karte,
Kabhi kabhi apne bhi paraya kar dete.

Shukriya hai aapka jab hazaaron log khilaaf hote hum khuda kehte,
Tab sirf aap hi ** jo hamara haath thame hamare saath khade rehte.

Khubsurat hai har subah aur har shaam,
Achaa lagta hai hamara naam jab judta aapka naam.

Aap saath hain tabhi khush hai saara chaman,
Aapse mohabbat karne ko le le hum hazaro janam.

Aap jaise dost milte hain taqdeer walon ko,
Mile yhi taqdeer aur is dil mein sirf aap rho.

Aapki rag rag se waakiff hain hum,
Saath hain humesha mere humdum.

Bs ek tamanna hai is dil mein,
Har janam mein aap hi hamare mahadev bane

Aaj pyari si ek pari
Mere ghar aayi ...?
Aaj nanni si ek kali
Mere ghar aayi...

Uski khushboo se mehka hai...
Yeh ghar humara?
Beshumaar khushiyan
Mere ghar aayi...

Uski ankhon se roshan
Hai har ek kona?
Lauhe mishkaat banke jo
Mere ghar aayi...

Humne jiske liye ki
Badi mannatein thi?
Woh ek dua e maghbool
Mere ghar aayi...

Uska chehra bhula de
Saare ghamon ko?
Yeh ek aisi basharat
Mere ghar aayi...

Uski pyari tabassum
Zakhmon ka malham

Ek nayi zindagi
Mere ghar aayi...

Usko dekhun to aankhon ko
Thandak aa jaye?
Hai jo Allah ki "Neama"…
Mere ghar aayi...

Jaise dasht o sehra mein

Waisa taskeen e qalb woh

Mere dil ki tammanna

Haan...
Mujhe ab bhi woh din yaad hai...
Hui zindagi jab se aabaad hai...
Suni teri dharkan thi jab ki woh pal...
Lagta hai jaise bas guzra tha  kal...
Aaj...
tu meri beti, khud Mumma bani hai....

(Yes...
I still remember that day...
Since my life has been domiciled
That moment when I heard your heartbeat for the first time...
Feels like that moment has passed just yesterday....

Today....
You my daughter, have become a mother...)

Haan...
khushi se jo aankhein thi nam yaad hai...
Hui tujh se poori jo fariyaad hai...
Thi mujh ko hamesha se chahat teri...
Ki tune mukammil hai duniya meri....
Aur Aaj...
Tu meri beti, khud mumma bani hai....

(Yes....
I remember how my eyes flooded out water in joy...
In you I found all my prayers answered
I had always desired you...
You have completed my world...

And today...
You my daughter, have become a mother...)

Haan...
Tere is hunar par tha mujh ko yaqeen...
Kabhi to banegi tu maa behtareen...
Teri qubiyon par, amal par tere...
Kiye tune sabit gumaan ko mere....
Kyunke Aaj...
tu meri beti, khud Mumma bani hai....

(Yes...
I always believed in this talent of yours
Some day you will be an amazing mother
The confidence I had in your skills and natural aptitude
You have proved me correct in my feelings

Because today....
You my daughter, have become a mother...)

Haan..
Teri aankhon mein aaj jo pyaar hai...
Umr bhar ke rishte ka iqraar hai...
Atoot hai jo rohani yeh taar hai...
Wohi to har ek maa ki talwaar hai...
Jaise Aaj...
Tu meri beti, khud mumma bani hai...

(Yes...
The love that exists in your eyes today
The commitment of a lifelong relationship
It’s a divine thread non-breakable
And that (the love) is every mother’s sword...

Like today...
You my daughter, have become a mother...)

Haan...
Dua “Ain” hai maa ki tere liye....
Har ek pal ** khushiyon ka tu jo jiye....
Banegi tu jab naani ek din kabhi...
Meri dil ko mehsoos karegi tabhi...
Khair aaj...
Tu meri beti, khud mumma bani hai....

(Yes...
Your mothers prayers for you from her core...
Every moment that you like may be filled with happiness...
And one day when you will become a grandma
Then you will know how my heart feels right now...

However today...
You my daughter, have become a mother...)

Bachpan ka samay kabhi na lautkar aata ,
Har waqt bus yaadon ka aasma reh jaata ,

Khelte the hum bhi khub dhul ko udel ko,
Maaf kr diye jate hamare sabhi galtiya aur bhul ko,

Jab chaha has lete they ,
Aur jab chaha ro dete they ,

Chhote chhote aankhon me sapne bade hote the,

Kya din they chalate they baarish mein nao
Ab khud ko chupane ke liye sochtey hain kha jao,

Na kuch paane ki aasha thi or na kuch khone ka drrrr,
Mast rehte they jaha apni hi dhun idhar udhar,

Koi lauta de bachpan ka sawan
Fir se mehak jayega mere dil ka aangan ,

Khelte they khilone se aaj khud khilona ban gaye ,
Bachpan ke sunhere pal na jaane kha kho gaye,

Maa se lipatne ke  bahane bnate,
Maa ke aanchal ke chav me hi so jate,

Chhote se kadam se saitaniya bde karte the,
Papa Ki pyari daat pr bhi ro dete the,

Jab bhi rota mai,Maa apne sine se laga leti thi,
Sahlake haath sar pr mere muskura deti thi,

Maa ka dudh jaise amrit ka pyala tha,
Sach me hamara bachpan bahut hi nirala tha,

Amrit ka Ek ghut pi kar bhi khush ** jate the,
Duniya ka sabse bda sukh maa ke aanchal me hi pate the,

Yaad hai hume wo khubsurat bachpan ke pal,
Muskura dete hum jab bhi yaad aate wo sunhare bite kal........

Us din se jab dil mein chingari si jali
Mere bhatakhtay dil ko jo basera mila
Woh pehli nazar ab bhi rahti hai khayal mein
Jab bhi door hotay ** — tanhaayi hi tanhaayi hai

Jab pehli baar tere hothon se mila tha pyaar
Woh lamha ban gaya har din ka izhaar
Jab pehli baar tera haath pakda tha
Zindagi ke humsafar ki aas ne faasle mita diye the

Har ek ghadi ab bhi dil mein yaad hai
Jaise taaron se sajaa hua asmaan hai
Jahan bhi jaun, hoon main kahin bhi agar
Waqt phir le aata hai usi yaadon ke dar

Har lamha pehla pal sa
Jaise ek shama jo kabhi na bujha
Saal beet gaye, waqt bhi chala
Par tu hi raha har soch mein sada

Jab pehli baar tujhe baahon mein liya
Har ehsaas ne ek naya rang piya
Jab pehli baar mila tha pyaar tera

Har waqt, har aahat mein tu aaya aisa laga
Har jagah, har pal tu mere saath raha
Mera pyaar har din wohi pehla pal sa laga

Har lamha pehla pal sa
Jaise woh shama jo kabhi na bujha
Saal beet gaye, waqt bhi chala
Par tu hi raha har soch mein sada

Jab bhi kahin yeh naghma sun le tu
Yeh samajh le — main hoon bas tu
Har lamha pehla pal sa
Aur tera pyaar hai mere saath sada

Khanjar Hain Teri Aankhein
Talwaar Hain Teri Aankhein
Zinda Na Rehne Dengi
Ae Yaar Teri Aankhein

Your eyes are like a dagger
Your eyes are like a sword
They will not let me live
O' beloved eyes of yours

Ae Nargis-e-Mastaana
Allah Tujhe Rakhe
Rehti Hain Tasavvur Mein
Har Baar Teri Aankhein

O' possessor of drunk eyes
God keep you in His preserve
Enduring within my imaginations
O’ forever are eyes of yours

Yeh Bolti Aankhein
Bhi Afsaane Sunaati Hain
Rakhti Hain Zuban Jaise
Ae Yar Teri Aankhein

These talkative eyes
Speak of many tales
As if, they have a voice of their own
O' beloved eyes of yours

Humne Teri Aankoon Mein
Allah Ko Dekha Hai
Iss Par Teri Aankein
Uss Par Teri Aankein

Within your eyes
I have seen the Lord
In every direction
O’ are eyes of yours

Chehre Pe To Ghussa Hai
Aankhoon Mein Muhabbat Hai
Karti Hain Mere Dilbar
Iqraar Teri Aankhein*

On the face anger is exposed
But love is within the eyes of yours
Revealing O’ sweetheart
Unity, are eyes of yours

Waqt hi waqt me

Mast magan phirte **...
Tanhai ke do Lamhe aur
Sadiyon ki pyaas sa samundar
Bebasi si chhayi ...neele Aakash me
Jaise ki baoli me doob si gayi ek Aahat
Ghootan si dhoowaan e sharaab...
Waqt se koso dur...
Ek ...jindagi...khwaab liye ...
Khwaab me intezaar ...aur narazgi khud se...

My love you taught me how to love
Feeling of love, that this heart showed
How many colors you spill, of love?
Reason for my love, you then asked?

Without you this life is so incomplete
Now when I realize how far away love was
Sheltering me in your heart such a treat
As beads of  love strung tenderly in gauze

At times  self-love seeks love from a stranger
At times a few moment with a loving heart is enough
At times to feel a heart dearer one has to live farther
In serendipity we met in love, leave me never in a huff

Think and despair not my cherished beloved
Must I say your love was so wondrous
I promise to be with you now and always beloved
You asked, I say all your concerns are needless

Mere Humdum..

Pyaar aapne hume karna jo siklaya
Pyaar ka ehsas is dil ko jo diklaya
Kitne pyaar ke rang chalkathe hain aap?
Phir Pyaar ki vajah poochate hain aap?

Yeh zindagi to aapke bina adhuri thi
Ab maalum hua pyaar thak kitni doori thi
Aashiyana aapne dil mein basa kar hume diya hai
Pyaar ke har lamahe chun ke is dil ko piroya hai

Khud ko chaahne ke liye kabhi gairon ka pyaar chahiye
Dil ki nazdhikyon ke liye kabhi dooriyon ka ehsas chahiye
Kabhi chand lamhay kaafi hain aap jaise dil walon ke saath
Ittifaaq se milay ** meharbaan kabhi na chodna mera haath

Bus Itna ab na sochiye mere jane-mehboob
Dekhiye pyar kiya aapne bhi bahut khoob
Zindagi aapke saath vada hai mere hum-safar
Har sawalon ka jawab diya humnay aap rahe  be-fikar

Miraji: Urdu Epigram translations

I'm obsessed with this thought:
does God possess mercy?
―Miraji, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Come, see this dance, the immaculate dance of the devadasi!
―Miraji, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Echoes of an ancient prophecy:
when my life has come and gone,
when I am dead and done,
perhaps someone
hearing again in a distant spring
will echo my songs
the world over.
―Miraji, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

If I understand things correctly, Miraji wrote the lines above after translating a verse by Sappho in which she said that her poems would be remembered in the future. I suspect both poets and both prophecies were correct! Keywords/Tags: Urdu, translation, translations, God, mercy, dance, prophecy, song, songs, world, mrburdu

MIRZA GHALIB

It's Only My Heart!
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

It’s only my heart, not unfeeling stone,
so why be dismayed when it throbs with pain?
It was made to suffer ten thousand darts;
why let one more torment impede us?

'Love is exquisite torture.'—Michael R. Burch (written after reading 'It's Only My Heart' by Mirza Ghalib)

Last Night
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz

Strange Currents

O Khusrow, the river of love
creates strange currents—
the one who would surface invariably drowns,

AHMAD FARAZ

The Eager Traveler
by Ahmad Faraz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Even in the torture chamber, I was the lucky one;
when each lottery was over, unaccountably I had won.

And even the mightiest rivers found accessible refuge in me;
though I was called an arid desert, I turned out to be the sea.

how sweetly I remember you—oh, my wild, delectable love!—
as the purest white blossoms bloom, on talented branches above.

And while I’m half-convinced that folks adore me in this town,
still, all the hands I kissed held knives and tried to shake me down.

You lost the battle, my coward friend, my craven enemy,
when, to victimize my lonely soul, you sent a despoiling army.

Lost in the wastelands of vast love, I was an eager traveler,
like a breeze in search of your fragrance, a vagabond explorer.

Intimacy
by Rahat Indori

instruct the hurricanes and tornados to observe their limits!

ALLAMA IQBAL

These are my translations of poems by Sir Muhammad Iqbal, also known as Allama Iqbāl, with Allāma meaning "The Learned One," a Lahori Muslim poet, philosopher and politician.

had-e-Tifli (“The Age of Infancy”)
by Allama Iqbal aka Muhammad Iqbal
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The earth and the heavens remained unknown to me,
My mother's ***** was my only world.

Her embraces communicated life's joys
While I babbled meaningless sounds.

During my infancy if someone alarmed me
The clank of the door chain consoled me.

At night I observed the moon,
Following its flight through distant clouds.

By day I pondered earth’s terrain
Only to be surprised by convenient explanations.

My eyes ingested light, my lips sought speech,
I was curiosity incarnate.

Withered Roses
by Allama Iqbal
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

What shall I call you,
but the nightingale's desire?

The morning breeze was your nativity,
an afternoon garden, your sepulchre.

My tears welled up like dew,
till in my abandoned heart your rune grew:

this memento of love,
this spray of withered roses.

Excerpt from Rumuz-e bikhudi (“The Mysteries of Selflessness”)
by Allama Iqbal aka Muhammad Iqbal
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Like a candle fending off the night,
I consumed myself, melting into tears.
I spent myself, to create more light,
More beauty and joy for my peers.

Longing
by Allama Iqbal
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Lord, I’ve grown tired of human assemblies!
I long to avoid conflict! My heart craves peace!
I desperately desire the silence of a small mountainside hut!

Life Advice
by Allama Iqbāl
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

This passive nature will not allow you to survive;
If you want to live, raise a storm!

Destiny
by Allama Iqbal
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Isn't it futile to complain about God's will,
When you are your own destiny?

MOMIN KHAN MOMIN

Being
by Momin Khan Momin
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

You are so close to me
that no one else ever can be.

There is a legend that the great Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib offered all his diwan (poetry collections) in exchange for this one sher (couplet) by Momin Khan Momin. Does the couplet mean "be as close" or "be, at all"? Does it mean "You are with me in a way that no one else can ever be?" Or does it mean that no one else can ever exist as truly as one's true love? Or does this sher contain an infinite number of elusive meanings, like love itself?

Being (II)
by Momin Khan Momin
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

You alone are with me when I am alone.
You are beside me when I am beside myself.
You are as close to me as everyone else is afar.
You are so close to me that no one else ever can be.

Last Night
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz

Last Night (II)
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Last night, your memory stole into my heart ...
as spring steals uninvited into barren gardens,
as gentle breezes revive dormant deserts,
as a patient suddenly feels better, for no apparent reason ...

Last Night (III)
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Last night, your lost memory returned ...
as spring steals silently into barren gardens,
as gentle breezes stir desert sands,
as an ailing man suddenly recovers, for no apparent reason ...

Raat yunh dil mein teri khoee hui yaad aayee
Jaise veeraaney mein chupkey sey bahaar aayee
Jaisey sehra on mein howley se chaley baadey naseem
Jaisey beemaar ko bey wajhey Qaraar aaye.

The Desert of Solitude
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, as performed by Iqbal Bano
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

In the wastelands of solitude, my love,
the echoes of your voice quiver,
the mirages of your lips waver.

In the deserts of alienation,
out of the expanses of distance and isolation's debris
the fragrant jasmines and roses of your presence delicately blossom.

Now from somewhere nearby,
the warmth of your breath rises,
smoldering forth an exotic perfume―gently, languorously.

Now far-off, across the distant horizon,
drop by shimmering drop,
fall the glistening dews of your beguiling glances.

With such tenderness and affection—oh my love!—
your memory has touched my heart's cheek so that it now seems
the sun of separation has set; the night of blessed union has arrived.

Speak!
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Speak, while your lips are still free.
Speak, while your tongue remains yours.
Speak, while you’re still standing upright.
Speak, while your spirit has force.

See how, in the bright-sparking forge,
cunning flames set dull ingots aglow
as the padlocks release their clenched grip
on the severed chains hissing below.

Speak, in this last brief hour,
before the bold tongue lies dead.
Speak, while the truth can be spoken.
Say what must yet be said.

Speak! (II)
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Speak, if your lips are free.
Speak, if your tongue's still your own.
And while you can still stand upright,
Speak if your mind is your own.

Tonight
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Do not strike the melancholy chord tonight! Days smoldering
with pain in the end produce only listless ashes...
and who the hell knows what the future may bring?
Last night’s long lost, tomorrow's horizon’s a wavering mirage.
And how can we know if we’ll see another dawn?
Life is nothing, unless together we make it ring!
Tonight we are love gods! Sing!

Do not strike the melancholy chord tonight!
Don’t harp constantly on human suffering!
Stop complaining; let Fate conduct her song!
Give no thought to the future, seize now, this precious thing!
Shed no more tears for temperate seasons departed!
All sighs of the brokenhearted soon weakly dissipate... stop dithering!
Oh, do not strike the same flat chord again! Sing!

Do Not Ask
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Do not ask, my love, for the love that we shared before:
You existed, I told myself, so existence shone.
For a moment the only light that I knew, alone,
was yours; worldly griefs remained dark, distant, afar.

Spring shone, as revealed in your face, but what did I know?
Beyond your bright eyes, what delights could the sad world hold?
Had I won you, cruel Fate would have ceded, no longer bold.
Yet all this was not to be, though I wished it so.

The world knows sorrows beyond love’s brief dreams betrayed,
and pleasures beyond all sweet, idle ideals of romance:
the dread dark spell of countless centuries and chance
is woven with silk and satin and gold brocade.

Bodies are sold everywhere for a pittance—it’s true!
Besmeared with dirt and bathed in bright oceans of blood,
Crawling from infested ovens, a gory cud.
My gaze returns to you: what else can I do?

Your beauty haunts me still, and will to the last.
But the world is burdened by sorrows beyond those of love,
By pleasures beyond romance.
So please do not demand a love that is over, and past.

When Autumn Came
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

So it was that autumn came to flay the trees,
to strip them ****,
to rudely abase their slender dark bodies.

Fall fell in vengeance on the dying leaves,
flung them down to the floor of the forest
where anyone could trample them to mush
undeterred by their sighs of protest.

The birds that herald spring
were exiled from their songs—
the notes ripped from their sweet throats,
they plummeted to the earth below, undone
even before the hunter strung his bow.

Please, gods of May, have mercy!
Bless these disintegrating corpses
with the passion of your resurrection;
allow their veins to pulse with blood again.

Let at least one tree remain green.
Let one bird sing.

Wasted
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

You have noticed her forehead, her cheeks, her lips...
In whose imagination I have lost everything.

Countless
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

I recounted the world's countless griefs
by recounting your image countless times.

The Condition of My Heart
by Munir Niazi
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

It is not necessary for anyone else to get excited:
The condition of my heart is not the condition of hers.
But were we to receive any sort of good news, Munir,
How spectacular compared to earth's mundane sunsets!

My Apologies, Sona
by Gulzar
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

My apologies, Sona,
if traversing my verse's terrain
in these torrential rains
inconvenienced you.

The monsoons are unseasonal here.

My poems' pitfalls are sometimes sodden.
Water often overflows these ditches.
If you stumble and fall here, you run the risk
of spraining an ankle.

My apologies, however,
if you were inconvenienced
because my dismal verse lacks light,
or because my threshold's stones
interfered as you passed.

I have often cracked toenails against them!

As for the streetlamp at the intersection,
it remains unlit... endlessly indecisive.

If you were inconvenienced,
you have my heartfelt apologies!

Near Sainthood
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Kanu V. Prajapati and Michael R. Burch

On the subject of mystic philosophy, Ghalib,
your words might have struck us as deeply profound...
Hell, we might have pronounced you a saint,
if only we hadn't found
you drunk
as a skunk!

Come As You Are
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Come as you are, forget appearances!
Is your hair untamable, your part uneven, your bodice unfastened? Never mind.
Come as you are, forget appearances!

Skip with quicksilver steps across the grass.
If your feet glisten with dew, if your anklets slip, if your beaded necklace slides off? Never mind.
Skip with quicksilver steps across the grass.

Do you see the clouds enveloping the sky?
Flocks of cranes erupt from the riverbank, fitful gusts ruffle the fields, anxious cattle tremble in their stalls.
Do you see the clouds enveloping the sky?

You loiter in vain over your toilet lamp; it flickers and dies in the wind.
Who will care that your eyelids have not been painted with lamp-black, when your pupils are darker than thunderstorms?
You loiter in vain over your toilet lamp; it flickers and dies in the wind.

Come as you are, forget appearances!
If the wreath lies unwoven, who cares? If the bracelet is unfastened, let it fall. The sky grows dark; it is late.
Come as you are, forget appearances!

Unfit Gifts
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

At sunrise, I cast my nets into the sea,
dredging up the strangest and most beautiful objects from the depths...
some radiant like smiles, some glittering like tears, others flushed like brides’ cheeks.
When I returned, staggering under their weight, my love was relaxing in her garden, idly tearing leaves from flowers.
Hesitant, I placed all I had produced at her feet, silently awaiting her verdict.
She glanced down disdainfully, then pouted: "What are these bizarre things? I have no use for them!"
I bowed my head, humiliated, and thought:
"Truly, I did not contend for them; I did not purchase them in the marketplace; they are unfit gifts for her!"
That night I flung them, one by one, into the street, like refuse.
The next morning travelers came, picked them up and carted them off to exotic countries.

The Seashore Gathering
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

On the seashores of endless worlds, earth's children converge.
The infinite sky is motionless, the restless waters boisterous.
On the seashores of endless worlds earth's children gather to dance with joyous cries and pirouettes.
They build sand castles and play with hollow shells.
They weave boats out of withered leaves and laughingly float them out over the vast deep.
Earth's children play gaily on the seashores of endless worlds.
They do not know, yet, how to cast nets or swim.
Divers fish for pearls and merchants sail their ships, while earth's children skip, gather pebbles and scatter them again.
They are unaware of hidden treasures, nor do they know how to cast nets, yet.
The sea surges with laughter, smiling palely on the seashore.
Death-dealing waves sing the children meaningless songs, like a mother lullabying her baby's cradle.
The sea plays with the children, smiling palely on the seashore.
On the seashores of endless worlds earth's children meet.
Tempests roam pathless skies, ships lie wrecked in uncharted waters, death wanders abroad, and still the children play.
On the seashores of endless worlds there is a great gathering of earth's children.

This Dog
by Rabindranath Tagore
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Each morning this dog,
who has become quite attached to me,
sits silently at my feet
until, gently caressing his head,
I acknowledge his company.

This simple recognition gives my companion such joy
he shudders with sheer delight.

Among all languageless creatures
he alone has seen through man entire—
has seen beyond what is good or bad in him
to such a depth he can lay down his life
for the sake of love alone.

Now it is he who shows me the way
through this unfathomable world throbbing with life.

When I see his deep devotion,
his offer of his whole being,
I fail to comprehend...

How, through sheer instinct,
has he discovered whatever it is that he knows?

With his anxious piteous looks
he cannot communicate his understanding
and yet somehow has succeeded in conveying to me
out of the entire creation
the true loveworthiness of man.

Perhaps
by Momin Khan Momin
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The cohesiveness between us, you may remember or perhaps not.
Our solemn oaths of faithfulness, you may remember, or perhaps forgot.
If something happened that was not to your liking,
the shrinking away that produces silence, you may remember, or perhaps not.
Listen, the sagas of so many years, the promises you made amid time's onslaught,
which you now fail to mention, you may remember or perhaps not.
These new resentments, those often rehashed complaints,
these lighthearted and displeasing stories, you may remember, or perhaps forgot.
Some seasons ago we shared love and desire, we shared joy...
That we once were dear friends, you may have perhaps forgot.
Now if we come together, by fate or by chance, to express old loyalties...
Our every shared breath, all our sighs and regrets, you may remember, or perhaps not.

What Happened to Them?
by Nasir Kazmi
loose translation by Michael R. Burch

Those who went ashore, what happened to them?
Those who sailed away, what happened to them?

Those who were coming at dawn, when dawn never arrived ...
Those caravans en route, what happened to them?

Those I awaited each night on moonless paths,
Who were meant to light beacons, what happened to them?

Who are all these strange people surrounding me now?
All my lost friends and allies, what happened to them?

Those who built these blazing buildings, what happened to them?
Those who were meant to uplift us, what happened to them?

This poignant, very moving poem was written about the 1947 partition of India into two nations: India and Pakistan. I take the following poem to be about the aftermath of the division.

Climate Change
by Nasir Kazmi
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The songs of our silenced lips are different.
The expressions of our regretful hearts are different.

In milder climes our grief was more tolerable,
But the burdens we bear now are different.

O, walkers of awareness's road, keep your watch!
The obstacles strewn on this stony path are different.

We neither fear separation, nor desire union;
The anxieties of my rebellious heart are different.

In the first leaf-fall only flowers fluttered from twigs;
This year the omens of autumn are different.

This world lacks the depth to understand my heartache;
Please endow me with melodies, for my cry is different!

One disconcerting glance bared my being;
Now in barren fields my visions are different.

No more troops, nor flags. Neither money, nor fame.
The marks of the monarchs on this land are different.

Men are not martyred for their beloveds these days.
The youths of my youth were so very different!

Memory
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, as performed by Iqbal Bano
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

In the wastelands of solitude, my love,
the echoes of your voice quiver,
the mirages of your lips waver.

In the deserts of alienation,
out of the expanses of distance and isolation's debris
the fragrant jasmines and roses of your presence delicately blossom.

Now from somewhere nearby,
the warmth of your breath rises,
smoldering forth an exotic perfume―gently, languorously.

Now far-off, across the distant horizon,
drop by shimmering drop,
fall the glistening dews of your beguiling glances.

With such tenderness and affection—oh my love!—
your memory has touched my heart's cheek so that it now seems
the sun of separation has set; the night of blessed union has arrived.

Speak!
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Speak, if your lips are free.
Speak, if your tongue is still your own.
While your body is still upright,
Speak if your life is still your own.

When Autumn Came
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

So it was that autumn came to flay the trees,
to strip them ****,
to rudely abase their slender dark bodies.

Fall fell in vengeance on the dying leaves,
flung them down to the floor of the forest
where anyone could trample them to mush
undeterred by their sighs of protest.

The birds that herald spring
were exiled from their songs—
the notes ripped from their sweet throats,
they plummeted to the earth below, undone
even before the hunter strung his bow.

Please, gods of May, have mercy!
Bless these disintegrating corpses
with the passion of your resurrection;
allow their veins to pulse with blood again.

Let at least one tree remain green.
Let one bird sing.

Last Night (II)
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Last night, your lost memory returned...
as spring steals silently into barren gardens,
as cool breezes stir desert sands,
as an ailing man suddenly feels better, for no apparent reason...

Ghazal
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Not the blossomings of songs nor the adornments of music:
I am the voice of my own heart breaking.

You toy with your long, dark curls
while I remain captive to my dark, pensive thoughts.

We congratulate ourselves that we two are different
but this weakness has burdened us both with inchoate grief.

Now you are here, and I find myself bowing—
as if sadness is a blessing, and longing a sacrament.

I am a fragment of sound rebounding;
you are the walls impounding my echoes.

The Mistake
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

All your life, O Ghalib,
You kept repeating the same mistake:
Your face was *****
But you were obsessed with cleaning the mirror!

Inquiry
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The miracle of your absence
is that I found myself endlessly searching for you.

I am strange—so strange
that I self-destructed and don't regret it.
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The wound is deep—companions, friends—embrace me!
What, did you not even bother to stay?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

My nature is so strange
that today I felt relieved when you didn't arrive.
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Night and day I awaited myself;
now you return me to myself.
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Greeting me this cordially,
have you so easily erased my memory?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Your lips have provided thousands of answers;
so what is the point of complaining now?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Perhaps I haven't fallen in love with anyone,
but at least I convinced them!
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The city of mystics has become bizarre:
everyone is wary of majesty, have you heard?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Did you just say "Love is eternal"?
Is this the end of us?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

You are drawing very close to me!
Have you decided to leave?
―Jaun Elia, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Intimacy
by Rahat Indori
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I held the Sun, Stars and Moon at a distance
till the time your hands touched mine.
Now I am not a feather to be easily detached:
instruct the hurricanes and tornados to observe their limits!

The Mad Moon

Stars have a habit of showing off,
but the mad moon sojourns in darkness.

How will I read you? Hand me the book!

If it sates my thirst, how long can it last?

Honor
by Rahat Indori

Achievements may fade but the name remains strong;
walls may buckle but the roof stays on.
On a pile of corpses a child stands alone

Pick up a handful of dust, then blow...

In your eyes this, in your heart that, on your lips something else?
If this is how you are, impress someone else!

Rumor (M)ill

I heard rumors my health was bad; still
it was prying people who made me ill.

The Vortex

I am the river whose rapids form a vortex;
You were wise to avoid my banks.

Homebound

If people fear what they meet at every turn,
why do they ever leave the house?

Becoming One
by Amir Khusrow
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I have become you, as you have become me;
I am your body, you my Essence.
Now no one can ever say
that you are someone else,
or that I am anything less than your Presence!

I Am a Pagan
by Amir Khusrow
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I am a pagan disciple of love: I need no creeds.
My every vein has become taut, like a tuned wire.
I do not need the Brahman's girdle.
Leave my bedside, ignorant physician!
The only cure for love is the sight of the patient's beloved:
there is no other medicine he needs!
If our boat lacks a pilot, let there be none:
we have god in our midst: we do not fear the sea!
The people say Khusrow worships idols:
True! True! But he does not need other people's approval;
he does not need the world's.

(My translation above was informed by a translation of Dr. Hadi Hasan.)

Amir Khusrow’s elegy for his mother
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Wherever you shook the dust from your feet
is my relic of paradise!

Paradise
by Amir Khusrow
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

If there is an earthly paradise,
It's here! It's here! It's here!

Mystery
by Munir Niazi
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

She was a mystery:
Her lips were parched...
but her eyes were two unfathomable oceans.

I continued delaying...
by Munir Niazi
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I continued delaying...
the words I should speak
the promises I should keep
the one I should dial
despite her cruel denial

I continued delaying...
the shoulder I must offer
the hand I must proffer
the untraveled lanes
we may not see again

I continued delaying...
long strolls through the seasons
for my own selfish reasons
the remembrances of lovers
to erase thoughts of others

I continued delaying...
to save someone dear
from eternities unclear
to make her aware
of our reality here

I continued delaying...

Couplets
by Mir Taqi Mir
loose translations by Michael R. Burch

Sharpen the barbs of every thorn, O lunatic desert!
Perhaps another hobbler, limping by on blistered feet, follows me!
―Mir Taqi Mir, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

My life is a bubble,
this world an illusion.
―Mir Taqi Mir, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Selflessness has gotten me nowhere:
I neglected myself far too long.
―Mir Taqi Mir, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I know now that I know nothing,
and it only took me a lifetime to learn!
―Mir Taqi Mir, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Love's just beginning, so why do you whine?
Why not wait and watch how things unwind!
―Mir Taqi Mir, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Come!
by Gulzar
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Come, let us construct night
over the monumental edifice of silence.
Come, let us clothe ourselves in the winding sheets of darkness,
where we'll ignite our bodies' incandescent wax.
As the midnight dew dances its delicate ballet,
let us not disclose the slightest whispers of our breath!
Lost in night's mists,
let us lie immersed in love's fragrance,
absorbing our bodies' musky aromas!
Let us rise like rustling spirits...

Old Habits Die Hard
by Gulzar
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

The habit of breathing
is an odd tradition.
Why struggle so to keep on living?
The body shudders,
the eyes veil,
yet the feet somehow keep moving.
Why this journey, this restless, relentless flowing?
For how many weeks, months, years, centuries
shall we struggle to keep on living, keep on living?
Habits are such strange things, such hard things to break!

Inconclusive
by Gulzar
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

A body lies on a white bed—
dead, abandoned,
a forsaken corpse they forgot to bury.
They concluded its death was not their concern.
I hope they return and recognize me,
then bury me so I can breathe.

Munir Momin writes poems in Balochi. Balochi is a Northwestern Iranian language spoken primarily in the Balochistan region of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.

Only for an evening
let my heart
soar momentarily
with the starlings of silence
fleeing the solitude of your eyes.
—Munir Momin, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

They sail ahead at the same speed
yet the moon reaches the beach
long before the boats.
—Munir Momin, loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Night and Day
by Munir Momin
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Night after night
the world screams
invective against
my solitude,
then sneaks out
the cracked backdoor window
but doesn’t make it far
beyond the city’s confines;
then in the morning,
acting as if nothing untoward happened,
it greets me,
having forgotten all about its rants
and my loneliness,
then accompanies me
like a friend
through the front door.

Wasted
by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

You have noticed her forehead, her cheeks, her lips...
In whose imagination I have lost everything.

Countless

I recounted the world's countless griefs
by recounting your image countless times.

Every Once in a While
by Amjad Islam Amjad
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Every once in a while,
immersed in these muggy nights
when all earth’s voices seem to have fallen
into the bruised-purple silence of half-sleep,
I awaken from a wonderful dream
to see through the veil that drifts between us
that you too are companionless and wide awake.

First Rendezvous
by Amjad Islam Amjad
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

This story of the earth
is as old as the universe,
as old as the birth
of the first day and night.

This story of the sky
is included in the words we casually uttered,
you and I,
and yet it remains incomplete, till the end of sight.

This earth and all the scenes it contains
remain witnesses to the moment
when you first held my hand
as we watched the world unfolding, together.

This world
became the focus
for the first rendezvous
between us.

Impossible and Improbable Visions
by Amjad Islam Amjad
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Eyes interpret visions,
rainbow auras waver;
similar scenes appear
different to individual eyes,
as innumerable oases
coexist in one desert
or a single thought acquires
countless shapes.

I Have to Find My Lost Star
by Amjad Islam Amjad
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Searching the emptiest of skies
overflowing with innumerable stars,
I have to find the one
that belongs
to me.

...

Gazing at galaxies beyond galaxies,
all glorious with evolving wonder,
I ponder her name,
finding no sign to remember.

...

Lost things, they say,
are sometimes found
in the same accumulations of dust
where they once vanished.

I have to find the lost star
that belongs to me.

O God!
by Qateel Shifai
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Torture my heart, O God!
If you so desire, leave me a madman, O God!

Have I asked for the moon and stars?
Enlighten my heart and give my eyes sight, O God!

We have all seen this disk called the sun,
Now give us a real dawn, O God!

Either relieve our pains here on this earth
Or make my heart granite, O God!

Hereafter
by Qateel Shifai
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Since we met and parted, how can we sleep hereafter?
Lost in each others' remembrance, must we not weep hereafter?

Deluges of our tears will keep us awake all night:
Our eyelashes strung with strands of pearls, hereafter!

Thoughts of our separation will sear our grieving hearts
Unless we immerse them in the cooling moonlight, hereafter!

If the storm also deceives us, crying Qateel!,
We will scuttle our boats near forsaken shores, hereafter.

Picnic
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

My friends laugh elsewhere on the beach
while I sit here, alone, counting the waves,
writing and rewriting your name in the sand...

Confession
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Your image overwhelmed my vision.
As the long nights passed, I became obsessed with your visage.
Then came the moment when I quietly placed my lips to your picture...

Rain
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Why shiver alone in the rain, maiden?
Embrace the one in whose warming love your body and mind would be drenched!
There are no rains higher than the rains of Love,
after which the bright rainbows of separation will glow with the mysteries of hues.

My Body's Moods
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I long for the day when you'll be obsessed with me,
when, forgetting the world, you'll miss me with a passion
and stop complaining about my reticence!
Then I may forget all other transactions and liabilities
to realize my world in your arms,
letting my body's moods guide me.
In that moment beyond boundaries and limitations
as we defy the conventions of veil and turban,
let's try our luck and steal a taste of the forbidden fruit!

Moon
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

All of us passengers,
we share the same fate.
And yet I'm alone here on earth,
and she alone there in the sky!

Vanity
by Parveen Shakir
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

His world is so simple, so very different from mine.
So distinct—his dreams and desires.
He speaks rarely.
This morning he wrote: "I saw some lovely flowers and thought of you."
Ha! I know my aging face is no orchid...
but how I wish I could believe whatever he says, however momentarily!

Come
by Ahmad Faraz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Come, even with anguish, even to torture my heart;
Come, even if only to abandon me to torment again.

Come, if not for our past commerce,
Then to faithfully fulfill the ancient barbaric rituals.

Who else can recite the reasons for our separation?
Come, despite your reluctance, to continue the litanies, the ceremony.

Respect, even if only a little, the depth of my love for you;
Come, someday, to offer me consolation as well.

Too long you have deprived me of the pathos of longing;
Come again, my love, if only to make me weep.

Till now, my heart still suffers some slight expectation;
So come, ***** out even the last flickering torch of hope!

I Cannot Remember
by Ahmad Faraz
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I once was a poet too (you gave life to my words), but now I cannot remember
Since I have forgotten you (my love!), my art too I cannot remember

Yesterday consulting my heart, I learned
that your hair, lips, mouth, I cannot remember

In the city of the intellect insanity is silence
But now your sweet, spontaneous voice, its fluidity, I cannot remember

Once I was unfamiliar with wrecking ***** and ruins
But now the cultivation of gardens, I cannot remember

Now everyone shops at the store selling arrows and quivers
But neglects his own body, the client he cannot remember

Since time has brought me to a desert of such arid forgetfulness
Even your name may perish; I cannot remember

In this narrow state of being, lacking a country,
even the abandonment of my fellow countrymen, I cannot remember

The Infidel
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Ten thousand desires: each one worth dying for...
So many fulfilled, and yet still I yearn for more!

Being in love, for me there was no difference between living and dying...
and so I lived each dying breath watching you, my lovely Infidel, sighing afar.

Ghazal
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Life becomes even more complicated
when a man can’t think like a man...

What irrationality makes me so dependent on her
that I rush off an hour early, then get annoyed when she's "late"?

My lover is so striking! She demands to be seen.
The mirror reflects only her image, yet still dazzles and confounds my eyes.

Love’s stings have left me the deep scar of happiness
while she hovers above me, illuminated.

She promised not to torment me, but only after I was mortally wounded.
How easily she “repents,” my lovely slayer!

Ghazal
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

It’s time for the world to hear Ghalib again!
May these words and their shadows like doors remain open.

Tonight the watery mirror of stars appears
while night-blooming flowers gather where beauty rests.

She who knows my desire is speaking,
or at least her lips have recently moved me.

Why is grief the fundamental element of night
when blindness falls as the distant stars rise?

Tell me, how can I be happy, vast oceans from home
when mail from my beloved lies here, so recently opened?

Abstinence?
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Let me get drunk in the mosque,
Or show me the place where God abstains!

Step Carefully!
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Step carefully Ghalib―this world is merciless!
Here people will "adore" you to win your respect... or your downfall.

Bleedings
by Mirza Ghalib

Love requires patience but lust is relentless;
what colors must my heart bleed before it expires?

perhaps someone
hearing again in a distant spring
will echo my songs

If I understand things correctly, Miraji wrote the lines above after translating a verse by Sappho in which she said that her poems would be remembered in the future. I suspect both poets and both prophecies were correct!

Apni Marzi se
by Nida Fazli Shayari
translated by Mandakini Bhattacherya and Michael R. Burch

This journey was not of my making;
As the winds blow, I’m blown along ...
Time and dust are my ancient companions;
Who knows where I’m bound or belong?

Apni Marzi se kahan apne safar ke hum hain,

Every Day and in Every Direction
by Nida Fazli
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Everywhere and in every direction we see innumerable people:
each man a victim of his own loneliness, reticence and silences.
From dawn to dusk men carry enormous burdens:
all preparing graves for their soon-to-be corpses.
Each day a man lives, the same day he dies.
Each new day requires the same old patience.
In every direction there are roads for him to roam,
but in every direction, men victimize men.
Every day a man dies many deaths only to resurrect from his ashes.
Each new day presents new challenges.
Life's destiny is not fixed, but a series of journeys:
thus, till his last breath, a man remains restless.

I’m a child of this dreary century, a child who never grew up.

My head inclined East only to occupy the middle of the road

your reading is done.

Reoccurrence
by Amrita Bharati (a Hindi poet)

It was a woman's heart speaking,
that had been speaking for eons...

It was a woman's heart silenced,

And between them loomed a mountain
that a man or a rat gnawed at, even in times of amity...
gnawing at the screaming voice,
at the silent tongue,
from the primeval day.

Ghazal
by Mirza Ghalib
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

You should have stayed a little longer;
you left all alone, so why not linger?

We’ll meet again, you said, some day similar to this one,
as if such days can ever recur, not vanish!

You left our house as the moon abandons night's skies,
as the evening light abandons its earlier surmise.

You hated me: a wife abnormally distant, unknown;
you left me before your children were grown.

Only fools ask why old Ghalib still clings to breath
when his fate is to live desiring death.

Bi Havre ('Together')
possibly the oldest Kurdish poem
loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

I want us to be together:
we would eat together,

climb the mountain together,
sing songs together, songs of love,

songs from the heart, sung from above.
I want us to have one heart, together.

Many words in this ancient poem are in doubt, so I have excerpted what I grok to be the central meaning.

How strange has life become:
Our evenings drag out, yet our years keep flashing by!

Dilemma
by Michael R. Burch

While I reject your absence,
I find your presence equally intolerable.
