The bare pads
of her toes
thumped

across
the photo-faded
tiles

Fingertips
outstretched
at full attention

Precious enough
to catch
the kiss

only
mama's lips
could gift

She walked
away
slowly

taking
great
care

exhibiting
to all who
didn't know

the only thing
she knew to
treasure

In the dragons cave filled with treasure.
with a warning you did not heed
eyes of blue become green eyes with slits
as the curse of the dragon hits.
Your heartbeat racing faster than ever before
sweat drips from every pore
skin becoming scaly and green.
Blackened claws burst through fingernails
legs and arms flail about
sickening crunches as bones grow and reform
the storm the rage of fiery dragons breath
forms in your lungs
burning all things in your path
as you exhale with a roar
horns pierce through skin and scales
break through your forehead
It hurts even more
as your jaw breaks and moves forward
into a reptile form
teeth lengthen and grow sharp
muscles expand and strengthen
tendons stretch and lengthen
nostrils flare
caught within the glare
of the mirror the witch put there
in the dragons cave
you won't be a slave
anymore as you seek vengeance
from her and the other humans
forevermore.

kiss me*
i wish to feel your breath upon every inch of my skin; my cheek, my neck, the lobe of my ear.
whisper things to me which you have told no other soul.
caress the skin of my naked back and hold me close to your heart.
love me like no one else ever could ; cherish me for the treasure i am

We're surrounded by many blessings in life.
Roof over our heads,
Food on our plates,
Clothes on our backs,
Families, friends and partners.

Yet, why are we not valuing what we have,
But valuing what we don't have?
Are they needs, or just wants?
Tangibles versus the intangibles,
Can you differentiate the importance?

Money isn't the only measure for wealth.
Switch your perspective around.
From materialistic views, luxurious riches,
To small but equally beautiful qualities of life.

Not all that sparkles are treasures,
Not all that glitters are gold.
Only when one appreciates what one has,
No amount of gifts will ever please.

*"You only know what you have when it's gone".
A poem to remind myself and everyone else on appreciating everything you have in life - the good and the bad.

We all have things we're grateful for. But, sometimes, we tend to take them for granted, whether intentionally or not.

Learn to value what you already have.

The seeker seeks for a treasure,
His treasure.
When he finds it, he lays his life to get it.
Though there are several thousand treasures all around him,
He yearns for one.
His body and soul are bound to its way,
Making not him seek the treasure, but it seeking him.

Between the highs and lows experienced day to day.
You are worth more than your weight in gold.
This you should take pride in,
The kindness, understanding, and strength that keeps your head elevated.
A way to the truth is found deep inside you.
It is there you will find treasure tenfold.
Don't dilute your soul with negative image.
Tainting yourself of all the beauty you possess.
Don't fear those that refuse the light that shines from your crown.
Or those whom speak ill of you.
At times like this, nourish yourself from the fountain of enlightenment.
Ascend higher in consciousness.
Control your breath, unclench your fist.
Gain the strength to go that extra mile.
A light will emerge, causing mass hysteria amongst the darkness
And within this light, the greatest treasure will be found.
That light is you.
That gift is you.
Don't forget how special you are or how much power you truly possess

How dare you push aside your most precious possession?
Do you not understand its value?
Its rarity? Its unique and original gifts to you?

It's perfectly clear that you don't understant.
What you hold in your hands is a treasure,
A treasure that is not commonly found,
And once lost, a it's impossible to find again.

Yet you treat this treasure like an afterthought to fools gold.
You treat this treasure as a stepping stone to something better,
When I think you know that there truly isn't anything more valuable than what you already have.

Take time, heed these words.
Youve come close to losing this precious possession once before,
And there is no way you'll regain it should you come close once more.
So tread carefully.

Best not lose the best blessing that you have ever received.
Some people don't know how lucky they are.

He was five or six when he first challenged her
To play a game of checkers.
Fresh-faced and eager from battles with friends,
Young master of jumping and double-jumping,
Connoisseur of cornering and kinging.
Ready to wreak havoc on his grandmother,
A simple farm wife, unskilled in the battle of the board.

He didn't contemplate that the checker set
In the old farm house was hers....

Their battles raged,
Sometimes every day,
With, "Want to play again?"
His constant question.

I would watch her lose,
Seeing what my little boy,
The often conqueror,
Could not see in victorious glee.

Twenty-five years later,
We sit again at the old farm table,
And the two are pitted in their checkers game;
The same, but wearied box waiting
While the battle rages on the old scarred board.

Her hand, uncertain, moves the pieces slowly
As though she is off somewhere thinking,
And he, now patient, waits in a treasured time,
For her to contemplate and make her moves.

He is twenty-nine, and she is eighty-nine,
And though the opportunities rise,
Through my misty eyes,
I see my son, pulling punches.
Braden and my Mother, in their annual summer games....
