Soon season's truth
cruelly lingers, looms,
moves to darken daylit view;
as dusk encroaches, colors move,
hues reduced and trees left mute.

You cannot wish
or want or choose
wildflowers too
wont wilt where grew
as if futilely doomed
once winter wounds
will chill to ruin,
beauty we lose
illuminated only by
a cold white moon.

For springtime comes
and i swear to you
no matter what we knew
or became so used to
amidst the weeds
our heirloom seeds
still bloom anew–
if only wait,
I'll prove to you.
Very rough 1st-ish draft 😅

You bellow my appellation,
unworthy soul
you vociferate
proclaiming
my worthlessness.

Your cries echo
with ignorance,
lamenting my alleged
idleness
and ineptitude,
prophesying
my perpetual failure.

Yet, I shall Pivot,
standing resolute,
a smile
gracing my visage
as I regard you
and declare,

'One day,
I shall bask in Prominence

One day,
Prosperity
shall be mine.
Joy
shall accompany me,

I Will be Industrious and
Honor Will Adorn Me

I will Ascend
Far beyond your reach,
and you will remain oblivious
ensnared
in the depths
of your own despair,
until you glimpse my face
from an exalted realm,

a perspective
forever unattainable
to you.
Optimism is not a challenging endeavor; it flows naturally from one's disposition. The true arduous task lies in embracing and applying the knowledge that has been bestowed upon you.

I didn't die.
I felt the sun on my inner eyelids.
It appeared on time,
Traipsing from the east.
I last saw it dropping like a child's ball
Just west of the St. Clair, into Michigan.

All is all right.
But I know to expect
Changes in the weather,
And seasons... lots of seasons...
I will dress appropriately.

In sunshine's glow,
we wear a smile,
yet deep inside,
we feel the trial.
The weight of hope
can feel so grand,
but woes can linger,
close at hand.
With every cheer,
loiters niggling doubt,
can happiness withstand
what life is about?
To be the light,
yet fear the strain,
When the bright facade
can crack and fray.
Beneath the mask,
a heart may strain,
for constant joy
can feel like pain.

I fell asleep outside,
on Lisa’s windy, 50th floor terrace.
It was indulgent, sensual
and lethargic - it crushed.
I forgot the time.
The sunset was intense,
a violent shock of color,
like an existential smack in the face.
I felt a lot of joy.
I’m feeling optimistic.
We leave for New Haven tomorrow.
I believe in the future.

Leeza popped her head out of the glass doors,
she was wearing a small, pale, skin bikini,
“Wanna go to the (indoor basement) pool?”
I stretched like a cat, “Sure,” I purred.

I've got my rose-colored glasses on
And skies in my eyes.
I've got stumbling thoughts in my head
And a few choice words (for you),
Trapped in the back of my throat, (just for you).

I've been sitting at the piano,
Staring out the window,
Thinking
how strange it is... that;
Well, blue is associated with sadness
When the sky is so beautiful,
Like you
When you're laughing
Because of
Me.

We never really say "good morning", do we?
It's only ever 🫂 (a blue hug)
We never really say "how do you feel, today?"
It's only ever "I need coffee."

I'm trying to find the expressions,
But the keys keep playing the wrong notes.
It ain't right

Blue skies
Aren't empty
They hold
Clouds, resembling objects,
Always drifting, changing
Making me feel
I'm always free-falling
What if it falls apart mid-flight?
Will we survive?

The sky has never been so blue
My vision has never been so blue
I don't think I was made for blue skies

I'm not an Obrina Olivewing butterfly.
My blue isn't true;
It's just the way I see light right now,
A false perception
A state of mind

but I...

I've got my rose-colored glasses on
for you
just for you
My one and only
🫂

Through its bend.
It hangs on to a promise.
One that hasn’t been fulfilled.
Its colors now dull,

Cascading from behind the clouds.
Bruised yet, fleeting in the blink of an eye.
It searches. Finding reason to smile.
The sun peeks its head out from behind the clouds.
Catching a glimpse of its beauty.

Someday.
Love won’t feel so constrained.
Giving it something to wrap its arms around.
Through its bend.
A brighter day is just around the corner
Meandering Words Apr 2024
i watched her extinguish
one of the candles
with dainty fingertips
while i hastily blew
the other one out
with a puff of cheeks
trying to be helpful
but getting it wrong
seeing what i had done
she scalded me playfully
deep down meaning it
telling how a candle
should never be put out
in that way

for blowing it out risks
expelling the positivity
all of the happiness
that its burning
had built up for those
who first lit that wick
bathing in the glow
of its healing light
that flickering flame
that keeps our shadows
dancing together
arm in arm
even if we simply
remain wrapped up
sat side by side

i don't believe
her theory necessarily
but i am left wondering
of all the candles
i have ever blown out
birthday celebrations
cosy evenings in
candle-lit meals
if what she says is true
i can't help but think
about those moments
of happiness and joy
that i have wasted
simply blown away
with a vacant breath
and an unwitting mind
