Every year as a child
We'd go down to the mall
Spread blankets on the new mown grass
And watch the fires fall
The display was not a large one
For Tucson was quite small
But on my father's shoulders
And I felt Ten Feet Tall!

At dusk the fireworks began
With blasts... staccato pops!
We'd watch with awe the sparklers
That would, as fat sparks, drop!
It would get brighter and brighter still!
It never seemed to stop!

The oohs and aahs of the crowd!
The smell of grass fresh cut!
Looking up! Exploding embers!
My eyes never shut!

At last! The finale!
What a fireworks display!
We were tired at the end...

.... but it was a PERFECT DAY!

I have nothing but happy memories the 4th of July. The state of the nation now saddens me. But for me this will always be a wonderful day!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

I wonder if you're lonely,
Somewhere out beneath the vibrant colors,
The oohs and the awes,
Always make my heart ache,
I wonder if you feel it like I do,
Or if you hold another's hand,
Long washed passed,
Like oceans and sand,
These days I've nearly given up it seems,
On romance and dreams,
The distance between us,
Like the echoes of sound after the crackle and boom,
I remember when you were lonely,
A girl trapped in her world,
Trapped in her room.
I wish darling flower,
That I could be the heart
That  makes you ooh and awe,
I wish perhaps one more moment,
that for a moment you saw,
how special you are to me,
That I could make you bloom.
Tonight I ache.

I can hear
fireworks
going off somewhere
in my town

And I wish
as each firework
explodes
and as they
give out  bursts
of sound
that they are instead a gun
putting holes
through my chest
head
stomach
anywhere
to relieve me
of the pain of living

They exploded
Bursting and booming
Popping with color
Their smiles lit each other up
Etching their imagine into the air
They caused an uproar
A dynamic duo burning out
Living fast, lovers star crossed
They devoured the dark
They tore the sky apart
Leaving only smoke in their wake
They caused and uproar (louder than a  Katy Perry song)

When you pressed your lips to mine
That was the first time I ever felt sparks fly.
I was a stable pile of gunpowder waiting to be ignited
And I finally found my lighter
It’s you.
I felt every corner of my body be lit inside.
I never felt more alive.
Kiss me again so those flames never die.
Let’s make one thing clear though
It wasn’t like the movies
I didn’t see any fireworks
Instead I felt them inside of me
I felt my nerves explode with feeling
I felt the gunpowder in my body start sparking
I didn’t think anyone could make me feel this way just by kissing
But apparently I underestimated you.
I started sweating because of the heat my body was emitting
If you took my temperature, than you’d think of me sick
In a way, I guess I am
Although it has nothing to do with germs or my body temperature
And everything to do with my feelings for you.
I didn't think I could ever become this head over heels for someone
But then again I never thought that I would feel fireworks
I don't think I'll ever step foot into any waterworks
Because I never want to stop feeling those fireworks.

what if I tell you a word
that can describe a feeling
of abundant happiness
that's been bursting
inside my chest like fireworks?
what if the word is so simple,
I secretly been saying to you
this whole time?

we are ticking time bombs
but when we explode
we are fireworks
creating something beautiful

Have you ever fallen in love?

I once did,
sitting on top of a sand dune
under the lights
of the Fourth of July.

                                         The water below
cast the reflection of beautiful chandeliers
                                         bursting with color,
                                         and as timeless as sand,
and yet my eyes were elsewhere -
capturing something unlike I'd ever seen.

Have you ever fallen in love?

I once did,
laying on a couch as I held her,
she turned to me and smiled;
the chandeliers were bold and raucous
as they decorated the sky of my mind,
and the stars twinkled in the depths of her eyes -

that memory since faded with time.

Have you ever fallen in love?

I once did,
the pen in my hand
gave birth to words and worlds
made from my reflection
like they were my children -
and I had always feared
impotency.

I created places I'd never seen,
but they were as real as sand,
                                               and for a moment,
                                               I felt like God:
                                               watching from above
as my creations began to breathe.

Have you ever fallen in love?

I once did,
living on a page of black and white,
if I was God,
she was an angel,
and the song from her trumpet
reminded me of the chandeliers
I thought were lost in time.

Have you ever fallen in love?

I don't know if I ever have,
but what I have is something
that gives me a reason to be;

                                                 Something beautiful
                                                 and intricate
                                                 like a chandelier
                                                 whose glass was once
                                                 nothing more
                                                 than countless grains of sand.
