Fall to me, all you streets of Rome,
With your embrowned oils from torched walls and breccia of shadows,
The pizzicato of stairways and afternoon slowly closed
Like the thick, leathery-echo from this book of all roads.

Fallen, smoldering empire of storefronts and back-shop heirlooms,
Your lupine hills unbound with milk of cur in the wind and woods,
To your fallow fields rowed deep by a conquest of oars,
To the deepest silence and soot-muted oneness of Pompeii,
And a sky that is an ancient coin, without worth,
But still rubbed smooth at the edges by overfond lovers.
Yes, more Rome.

The immortal is the time before the rain
When we have thoughts of it afterward.
By then, the mosaic of tongue and its words
Are broken stones swept away
By the shuttling broom of storm.

Wisdom is better than rubies
Its harvest is better than gold
I’ll obtain and use this wisdom
Like the greatest people of old

Wisdom is deep and eternal
And guides me in meaningful ways
Its sense and witty inventions
Add wealth to my life and my days

Wisdom says, “Hearken unto me
And riches and honor will flow
Follow my ways purposefully
And your riches will surely grow”

Wisdom will fill me with treasure
Rejoicing in daily delight
Bringing me love and contentment
I’ll keep wisdom first in my sight

Sing to me, one last time, your melodies no matter the rhyme.
And bring me peace one moment again,
Forever, this time, my eternal friend.
From me to you, you wonderful thing,
This life around us sure does change.
If all must go, and you must too,
I hope I go and walk with you.
No song before has made me cry,
Not like you have, not like this sky.
And so I owe you my own life,
My last dying wish is to watch you shine.
Wherever I go,
Whatever I'll be,
I love you,

To You, Nature
From Soul, just little old me.

Sound is a torchlight passed
Along the eardrum to quiver in silhouettes,
Shadow puppets of the mind.

Stars are the torchlit soundways to the divine,
With flickerings too far to be heard
Or too much shadow-disturbed to know as sign.

I’m so sorry, Lord
I failed again
Even though I say I’m trying
It feels like I can’t

I can’t try
Without failing
And I fail
At trying

All the while I carry this cross
The weight seems so heavy to bear
And I stacked on the pounds
I was not unaware
But surprised when the last grain of rice tipped the scale
And I look back to see myself having failed

And then I stop and I think
(Not to dissipate the guilt,
But to accept my fate)
It was never written or taught
That you never tripped while you walked
Carrying your cross
To Calvary— for me.
And for a time even, you allowed
A friend to carry the weight
You, even, were not alone in your feat.

Lord,
I will look and behold
But strengthen my neck
To hold it up
Help lift my cross
So that I am not crushed
I want to dwell in your glory
But what do I know of Holy?

A year ago this was not me,
Somehow my direction changed
And slowly I turned from your face
And once you were just an arms length away
And now I’m in a valley
Looking miles up the Hill
Where you died for me

Today I am not the woman weeping
At your feet
But my Lord and God
I long to be

It was me
who nailed your hands and your feet.
Please, forgive me.

Forgive me Lord
It was me.
I am the cause of your sufferings.

Please show me what it is I need
To do to come to your mercy seat
Lead my feet And hold me

I will walk the road to Calvary
Or I will walk the road you paved for me.
I will collapse at your feet, begging,
Please forgive me.

I understand the one
Who washed your feet with her tears
And dried them with her hair

She saw your glory
And perhaps her misdeeds

And like so many heard
I long to hear the words
“Take up thy bed and walk”
Or, “thy sins are forgiven thee”

I will not pray,
“Please save me”
But “you have saved me.
Now please, please,
Change me.”

Make me more worthy
I know it might hurt
Cleaning the wounds imbedded with dirt
But you will wash me.

I don’t do moon and stars
I’m not good at metaphors
I’m not what you call a romantic
That said, I’m no less enthusiastic
When I give, I don’t count
And when I take, there’s no discount
Don’t question my kindness
Don’t look for my weakness
By your side I’ll stay
As long as you don’t stray
You’ll be mine
Until ends time
