Marionette Theatre
Justen Davila Oct 2018
humanity assaulted by the sucker punch of the corrupted
drunken from the bottle, anti-venom switched out for more vile
vexation arises from our actions as we are
broken marionettes once admired

For My Son
Justen Davila Oct 2018
my son shall be a reflection of me with the mirror being his mother. he will have my eyes and his mothers heart, my brains but his mothers demeanor. we all know he’ll need it. the courage will come from us both because your mother is a warrior as am i. we fight. never let them see you down son, if you fall remember: gravity centers lowest to the ground, you shall gather yourself up and stand strong. and when the waves come crashing because they will, when they crash just know that you are a warrior. there is no mountain big enough in comparison to your potential, no storm loud enough to quite your spirit and no accolade too great to make you gloat. my son, you were made under the shield of love, so you shall forever be protected. never let anyone tell you otherwise. when you see a man down keep your arms outstretched, warriors can fight for the less fortunate too, but stand proudly in your body. and when they ask why you are who you are you simply respond: I am a reflection of my father in the mirror of my mother.

Fast | Slow
Justen Davila Jul 2017
fast

the way that my heart beats around you
the way our culture likes things done
the fast gets there early
the early bird always wins
i was always rushing looking for things

never thought i could learn something different
but then i met you and now i understand
how beautiful the world could be

slow

Warrior
Justen Davila Jan 2017
Stoic sculpture standing in glory
Motionless in fear
As the serpentine cloak covers his naked form
Hiding behind the beauty and perfection
That caused the war
That ravaged him, the war that started it all
His eyes fill with tears, and his body begins to tremble
The beauty melts into pain and the perfection crumbles
The victor has risen

Wolves
Justen Davila Jan 2017
the night sky
a canvas painted by stars
guiding us to the intersection
of amazement

like wolves in the night we howl
craving to be acknowledged by the keeper of our hearts
who while thousands of miles away
lies staring up at the night sky

knowing that one day
the stars that leave us awestruck
will do so once more
bringing your light to my empty corner of the world

Lying Lips
Justen Davila Aug 2016
Although bit by the scorn of deception
My ears await the truth
Spewed from lying tongues

Humanity is Not
Justen Davila Aug 2016
Because we choose to be
We must choose to act
Life is not simply living
But actively seeking to be alive
It is a pursuit
A chase
A challenge
Every day
Humanity is not the given form
It is the ultimate sacrifice

Doused Flames
Justen Davila Aug 2016
The flames that melted innocence
Ravaged my soul uncontrollably
Doused by aspiration of purity
If only I could be clean again
If only I was
Unbeated
Unbruised
Unscathed
Doused Flames
Melted Innocence
