Social distancing day 4.
Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
I watched an age old movie with my parents.
I don't remember the joke, but once we started laughing, it was hard to stop.

We would stop, look at each other, and then laugh again.
Our stomachs ached, not of hunger, but of laughter.

I want these times to last forever.

Social distancing day 3.
Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
I gaze, at the empty sky,
dotted with birds here and there,
I breathe the fresh air...
It's like the trees afar are waving at me,
The sun is winking.
I've never appreciated nature this much.
As COVID-19 spreads, people are locked in their homes...and nature is regaining its place.
Celebrating Mother Earth, and her stunning wonders.

Just like my feelings.
Been having a lot to deal with. The best therapy for such heartbreaks is family.

Comeback.
Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
I begged and pleaded him to stay,
I said I'd protect him come what may,
I apologised for the smallest things that day,
But he looked at me and said "Go Away".

I cried for a long day,
And all through the nights, all I did was pray,
All I need was that ray,
Which would make me close this wound one day.

I fixed my way,
And stitched my wound that day,
Because I was not his princess, I was my own queen to slay.

And even tomorrow if he comes in my way,
And asks me to stay,
I would remember my tears of that day,
And say,
"Darling, no way."
Moving on is closing a door which leads no where. It's stitching wounds. It's forgetting a past to a glorious future.
Toxic people remain toxic. Set them free.
You don't need him. You need yourself.
Here's to a better future.

Hmu if you're going through something similar! =)
Love, harshi

Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
Life is a ferris wheel.
Sometimes up,
Sometimes down.

Why am I always feeling I'm stuck down?
Lately I've been feeling let down and a bit sad. And thats when i felt, accepting you are in pain is better than suffering alone. Maybe reflection of the past and revision of actions is what i need...and a cup of coffee to warm my soul.

COVID-19
Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
Corona
a smouldering flame
engulfing everything, everyone
in its way
with no mercy.

Here we are,
instead of thinking
how to extinguish it,
we're running away.

flames destroy everything,
and fear is like petrol to it.

When we're in love,
we dream
and daydream
smile
and giggle
to ourselves.

When we're in heartbreak,
we write
some things
we wish we
could've told them.
And that,
my friends,
is poetry.

Poetry is the language of pain.

Hearts.
Harshitha Girish Mar 2020
it's surprising
as to
how some people
break hearts
so easily
and walk away
like they've done
absolutely nothing.
Dangerous confidence, I call it.
How do they have the guts to break someone's heart and leave in a second? Doesn't their conscience tell them they've used someone....

God took him away so fast,
He didn't get to return his smile,
He didn't get to give a last hug.
He just sighed for the last time,
And glided away...
He didn't get to choose his bride,
He didn't get to choose his best man,

He didn't get to say goodbye.
Sometimes, great people in the making die young...

Add three cups of Brilliance,
and three cups of Knowledge.
Mix two cups of Conceptual Information
And stir like a porridge.
That makes an average teacher.

Great teachers
Have a sprinkle of sparkling presence,
A bag full of passion to teach
A jug of compassion and love to students
The ability to help them face fears
Accept weaknesses
And harness strengths.

Great teachers, in short, are just like parents.
All through this year, my life has been an absolute rollercoaster. With the help of my amazing parents and the help of the greatest teacher, Lawrence Sir, I was able to come out of it. The dedication he has is unfathomable. Everyday however tired he is, he has a smile and a sparkle to teach. He has wiped my tears and mended my ways.
No poem can match the presence of him in my life, and I am so grateful for that.
I am what I am because of him and my family whose support is a blessing.
May everyone be blessed with a Lawrence Sir in their lives.
Because he is a fine teacher and a brilliant man.

When did I grow up?
Harshitha Girish Feb 2020
Footprints of size 1
Now of size 10.
Oh God, when did I grow up?!

Chairs of such small size
Now a throne of leather
Oh God, when did I grow up?!

Papers of drawing
Now a booklet of future
Oh God, when did I grow up?!

Skirts of small size
Now a formal blazer
Oh God, when did I grow up?!
So today I wrote my first board exam, and something I thought of....when did we grow up?
I was a first grader, thinking 10th graders are cool and now I just want to go back to reading a volume of Mother Goose as if it were the first time...

he often takes my peace of mind,

Corporate Mom.
Harshitha Girish Feb 2020
She walks into a room of men,
They know she means business.
Hierarchy was never an issue,
She stood above them all.

She juggles between Home and Work
She stays up all night
She shows her children how to dream
Whilst completing her own.
Having a working mother sets a beautiful example in my life. My mom's been into business since a decade now and the level of professionalism she shows is unfathomable. She set her place in the industry and she shows them how it's down.
I guess that's life.
Once you fall, you know how to rise.
And that's exactly what my mum has taught me.
Cheers to all the working mothers out there, who dream and teach their children to dream. Who juggle between work and life. Who dream and inspire.

Dreams.
Harshitha Girish Feb 2020
Night is for visualising the dreams,
Day is for turning them into reality.
Gut nods at the dream,
And mind turns it into a hustling bloodthirstiness.
If life is a red blood cell,
A dream is the haemoglobin.
Dream dream dream! However crazy it may sound, dreamers are winners. Dreams are never too small. Dreams are never too crazy.
Dreams are forever, and a dream is the blood which runs within everyone.
Dreams keep us going.

Stars.
Harshitha Girish Feb 2020
She didn't get her children the stars they asked for.
She educated them and made them fly to the constellations
They always dreamed of.
My mother is an angel. She never gave us all we asked for. She made us work for it. As a result, my sibling and I always work for something. Today, we realise our mother's words are true, and nothing in life comes easy.
You have to earn rewards.
A tribute to my mother, who works hard for me everyday....

Brown hair.
Harshitha Girish Jan 2020
She was a dusky beauty
With a soft mane of brown hair
It fell in perfect curls
Around her round head.
She had sparkling brown eyes
And gosh that beautiful smile
Heads turned to see her radiance
Even from a mile.
Being brown, I have always faced comments, sometimes from my relatives who say "you're too dark". Why should my prospective groom be concerned about my colour? Shouldn't he love me for who I am? Shouldn't he embrace my flaws? That's when I realised, I should embrace myself first.
So here goes.
I'm brown. And I'm beautiul.
To all the beautiful women, who are unique and radiant in their own ways.

Silence.
Harshitha Girish Jan 2020
Shh....
Don't utter a word.
Let the silence talk.
Whenever you are working towards something big, I always advice people not to shout out their process. It just sows seeds of jealousy. When you receive success, the whole world knows. But if you talk about your work before it is achieved, when it fails, people will for sure push you down.

She had a crown on her head
And the soul of a dragon.
Soul of dragon, one of my favourite phrases. To me, it signifies what it exactly says. A dragon is fierce with her enemies, but she protects the ones close to her. She means business and listens to no one. A lady with the soul of a dragon makes heads turn.
Celebrating the strength in every lady.

Her invisibility.
Harshitha Girish Jan 2020
She was in the corner,
     Not wanting to be seen.
She was so invisible,
      Yet not unseen.
No one saw her,
Yet she was the centre of the attention,
She kept to herself;
An antisocial babe.
She was visible,
Through her invisibility.
