How can birds sing, if taken from the meadow?
Cloistered away in silent fear
envious of the boundless skies
Even her wings are held earthbound
defenceless is she, and silent as the grave.

✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿

What sun may rise for she who walks in shadow,
the blackness that makes her disappear
hidden away from prying eyes
Too fearful to make the smallest sound
accepting of pain, and living as a slave.

Jade --
Stone of the side,
The antagonized

Side of green Adam, I
Smile, cross-legged,
Enigmatical,

Shifting my clarities.
So valuable!
How the sun polishes this shoulder!

And should
The moon, my
Indefatigable cousin

Rise, with her cancerous pallors,
Dragging trees --
Little bushy polyps,

Little nets,
My visibilities hide.
I gleam like a mirror.

At this facet the bridegroom arrives
Lord of the mirrors!
It is himself he guides

In among these silk
Screens, these rustling appurtenances.
I breathe, and the mouth

Veil stirs its curtain
My eye
Veil is

A concatenation of rainbows.
I am his.
Even in his

Absence, I
Revolve in my
Sheath of impossibles,

Priceless and quiet
Among these parrakeets, macaws!
O chatterers

Attendants of the eyelash!
I shall unloose
One feather, like the peacock.

Attendants of the lip!
I shall unloose
One note

Shattering
The chandelier
Of air that all day flies

Its crystals
A million ignorants.
Attendants!

Attendants!
And at his next step
I shall unloose

I shall unloose --
From the small jeweled
Doll he guards like a heart --

The lioness,
The shriek in the bath,
The cloak of holes.

I used to think that all I wanted
was someone to love me,
someone to give me all their
warmth and trust and sympathy.
The more I sit here in this
empty room beside a window,
the more I realize that that
kind of life ain't meant for me.

I'm making friends with all the
shadows climbing on my rooftop,
and I hear music in the leaves
that rustle in the wind.
And I dont need no pity, girl,
I kinda like the struggle.
Like feeling 'round for the doorknob
when the lights are dimmed.

Each day someone will call and
offer me a new solution,
and while I do respect the
depths of their true concern,
they have to realize solitude
and silence both are virtues -
but that's a lesson that I
hope they never need to learn.
purdah (noun) - a state of seclusion or secrecy, often self-imposed.

A zeppelin perches in my gut.

it is at its stop.
numbing.

the bottom atrium holds rushing footsteps- stubbornly colliding.
and before my closed eyes in the blackness of the mind-winded by the whitest of frost-white flower flash cards deal and conceal the emptiness of snip off eyes.
stinking flies lonely in their lives, barraged by their sticky snaggy wings
they draw sharp daggers, pinning sorrow on to my breath.
my mouth thirsty for salty blue water lies
hungry for the breath of another kind-
shadows of tuberoses on hot mornings
pipe dreams and pies in the sky

what is solitude?
a cocoon of iridescent
paintings of oil on bulletproof walls
mama’s warm embrace in fetal form

a prison of darkness
where no one knows your face
where reflections are only imagined
where hands are far from reach
and reality is...

a place where beauty is created
creation is sentence
and sentence is desolation

A brain, with a never-ending war inside
A heart, in search of a new way to subside
A pair of eyes, looking for a new divide
It's me here, with every inch so mortified

Everything here seems so off and so wrong
Everyone is tripping toes to the euphoric songs
They want me to get along and play along
But still this solitude!, huh, and I'm not alone!

Should I wake up tomorrow? that same question,
same dilemma, that made me ask this now again
This vacuum in my soul, invention of the inception,
of the unceasing pain, struggle and suffocation.

Dear Father, I need you here, I need you near
I have all these people here, but still, I'm in fear,
fear of war, fear of purdah, fear of despair, and
of losing heart that you'd save me like yesteryear.

I find myself the poor and hapless victim, of your love
My heart now beats alone, to my dismay
But hearts will soon sucumb, to the things they’re victim of
And mine is fast approaching, an anguished judgement day
Within my mind I view my life in broad, and bold tableau
A panoramic tapestry, of guilt
Condemned to live at least for now, within the status quo
Behind these solid prison walls, I find my heart has built

Desire and I have fought at length, and come to no decision
No answers to the questions we engage
In fact at times I hear my heart in silent, cruel derision
That memories of you, have no hope.. to soon assuage
Relieve the endless, sleepless nights.. alone has come to be
Without you here, to ease my troubled mind
The tears that fall in pairs, drop two by two.. relentlessly
Eyes hold no remorse, for those already shed, I find

And so tonight I’ll lie beside my fire yet once again
While you and your devices plot intrigue
My hopes have drifted with the smoke, to dissipate disdain
It’s will to fight against the wind, left perfectly fatigued
Perhaps one day I’ll witness restless memories depart
I’ll know the reasons why love sought retreat
But for now, remain the hopeless victim of your heart
Alone in purdah, Six, one, forty five..
on 2nd street...
“Please pick up the phone..
Hello?..hello”..

I've always known,
I'm no heir to no throne,
I've finally concluded,
I'm better left alone,
If alone is all we are,
I'll soar in solitude,
I'll go too far,
I'll remain purdah,
And seclude my all,
I'll open my eyes,
Then I will fly,
A roaming heart,
A solemn star.
Being alone is wonderful, but finding sanctuary in solitude is true bliss.

Braced against the dawn
Rising above purdah mist
My solitude breaks

Lifted by morning
My lit face turns so slowly
Longing for lost hush

Stirred, shaken, summoned
My cautious foot stretches out
Into the first light
