                                    Dressers of Sycamores

“I am a herdsman and a dresser of sycamores”

                                          -Amos 7:14

Amos speaks blunt truth in humility
And being commanded from the fields to the roads
To remind us of our duties to God and His People
Is a disruption, not a promotion

We all dress sycamores in our own ways:
Carrying groceries, tending the sick
Plowing a field, repairing a broken truck
Mending a fence, taking a child to school

We should listen to Amos and to ourselves
For our service is noble if for the King
A poem is itself.
(With regards to International Workers’ Day)

Who said workers are only workers?

They are a gift of heaven

They come for social good;

But return with lots of deterrence

You may treat them like engines

But always remember

There is also a worker

Somewhere within you

Who is keen to protect the dignity

Of these outdoor workers.

Workers are not only workers…

Above all, they are humans

Just like you and me.
Workers are not only workers
Greet with love the morning sun
It shines for you and everyone
Rise in strength for work and fun
Arise and start to get things done

Get it done
While having fun
With everyone
In the morning sun

Don’t let your daily goals await
While sunshine sees you sleeping late
You’ll not reach prosperity’s gate
But dreams pass by, for lesser fate

Claim your fate
Prosperity’s gate
You’ll not be late
When your dreams await

Imagine energy passing through
Your body now, and strength renew
The morning sun holds power for you
Success in everything you do

You can do
What’s here for you
When you daily renew
As the sun shines through

I love the morning sun, and I'm always aware of when it first shines in our yard.  I go out to greet it.  We live near some high mountains to the East of us, so it's light for a couple hours before the actual sun rays shine on our house.

The morning sun actually helps "condition" your skin so that you are less likely to sunburn later in the day.  The morning sun rays are special in a lot of ways - scientifically.  However, this poem is mostly about the mental and spiritual benefits of arising early to greet the morning sun.

your name
is still on my door’s
nameplate.
next to mine.

i haven’t had
the strength to
change it.

you know how much
i hate doing
mundane things:
cooking dinner,
washing dishes,
folding clothes.

but sometimes,
you just need to do it;
you know…
the work.

Leave.
Today my boss blindsided me in front of 4 people of power tellong me that if i hadn't resigned they would have fired me on top of giving me a written warning for no reason at all. I was the only staff member in my department for 6 months and they have done nothing but criticize me. I hope i can leave this all behind me because they will choke without me.

Why settle for less
Than you know you deserve?

A flower wont sprout
If it doesn't get what it needs.

Why should you?
I quit my job today. Im finished with the emotional abuse whether they admit it or not. I refuse to work hard in a space where i dont get what i need

The song Lean with me may sound dumb
but is sometimes describes others life

People struggle with looking at the bright
side of life, which makes sense life right now
is so hard

Loved ones are getting sick left and right, but
it does **** but trying to look on the bright side
of things  can change ones whole life

Like the song Juice needed someone to lean on and
help him through his drugs additions but he didn't have
anyone to help him, and he took to much and OD

So to people who struggle like me don't be scared to just
lean on someone who could help you no matter what it make
be
Everything maybe hard but look for the help you need

No man is free that speaks from a cage.
Choke chains spiked to the dirt,
Sweat feeds the fields like rain.
With calloused hands,
The nameless toil away. Fed a morsel,
From a fistful of grain.
Praying for clouds to shelter the sun;
If only for a day.
A famine of hope. Straw cities of the voiceless,
Screaming silence.
How much is an hour of your life worth?
