She carries bruises in her grasp,
Like a plague she cannot unclasp.

The bruises hurt as much as heartbreak;
A piercing bite
from a
venomously
seductive
snake.

If Heaven does exist,
I wonder if a sun shines there.

It seems an awfully cold place to me,
locked away behind those pearly gates,
supported by clouds.

I wonder if so much whiteness is good
for the soul, for the eyes, for the mind—

surely, there is some sort of fire up above
to balance that below.

I wonder if I would know the difference
between the heat of His love
and the heat of what He has created.

If Heaven does indeed exist,
I hope it is orange and yellow and red.
I hope it is warm.

Read the stories in my scars
I write love poems for the dead
Ink spills on the skin of my griefs
Pain written on African flesh turns to red
On black pages they read, wounded melanin forever bleeds
Not because of a dark past, but of present doom
Torn through the years, my tears on sand in empty beaches fall
Like rain on a sunny day, the storm breaks down my walls
Threatening my sanity

To taste your tears of joy
To drink lavender tea poured from your mouth
To savor your lips after you have licked them
To wrap your curls around my neck till I suffocate
To melt into the scarlet of your cheeks

This is not a love letter,
I simply long for the forbidden parts
of you

Two souls, one heart
Tied with red strings of bond
Resembling each other
Different mind, same body

One's fallen ill, the other's suffering
One's lost, the other remembered
That's what you call twins

Whistling wind howls in your ear
Your breath comes out in fogs and huffs
Standing atop a flat hill of red sand
the sound of thin, dry branches scratching rocks
a flash of grey fur and a squeal breach the silence
once so heavy you could hear your own heartbeat
The Sun has begun to set
The rays seeming to match that of water
Staining the blue sky with oranges and pinks
****** fingers tearing at the mountains
As the Sun fights to see your face longer.
You breathe in the dry dusty air

And scream until there is none left in you
To be where I am now would only hurt us all
Fire and mortar
Dust to dust
The sky stained red
From ashes and rust
The flames reach new heights.
They lick the sky,
Burning new trenches.
I wish I could say why.
