Snowflakes from the fluffy clouds
Covering the world in ice
Falling fast, impressing crowds
Ignoring the risky price

Snow melting on your rosy nose
Making you freeze and sneeze
You put your scarf so close
Standing in the cold breeze

Snowballs crumbling down your neck
Your coat and boots already wet
Blushing after a cheeky peck
Accepting the cold you’ll get

Outside the world turns brown
Dirt mixed with the white
No snowflakes falling down
Though still the world is quite

Books and pillows in your bed
Reading pages after pages
Handkerchiefs beneath your head
Until it’s over it feels like ages
Echo Floating Nov 2017
Autumn has fallen.
Bowed her umber head
On bended knee
In supplication

A new reign begins

The geese in formation flee
Their discordant cries
a perfect counterpoint
To their orderly V

The banished army of summer

Still Sunday mornings
Frostbitten silences
Shattered by the cacophony
of hunters' guns

Reaping the spoils

Hedgerows thickly laden
Berries of holly,
sloe, ivy, crabapple
After sweeter fruits are gone

Provide a bitter feast

Coldness brings clarity
Stripped away
of the raiment of summer
The bare vista in her true form

Naked, cold and beautiful

Only the strongest scents survive
The salt tang of the sea
The sharpness of evergreen
Joined now by a new one

The tingling promise of snow

Onward she sweeps
A glittering queen
Tracing filigree on
leaf, pond and pane

Marking her conquests

The world is struck numb,
Dumb
By this terrible beauty
This force of nature

Now is the cusp of Winter

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Candle in a dark room.
Fire in the ice,
Laughter in the gloom.
Taker of breath,
Bringer of death.
Dryer of tears,
Bringer of fears.
Silent voice,
Obvious choice.
You intoxicate the sober,
Bring the chills in October.
As the bringer of destruction,
You then begin the construction,
Of a being anew.

I remember the way the ice looked on the street that night.

The dullness of poorly lit lights paired with too much Seagrams 7 made it shine just enough to mesmerize sunken eyes.
Mine.

Just enough to convince you to stay.
Just enough it convinced me to stay.
Again, In the home I couldn't seem to escape.
Didn’t want to escape.

Back inside, dodging objects to stay alive.
Different sizes, different aims.
It was not just a game.

The monster I somehow loved,
dragging me away from all that is and was real.
I thought he was real.

The same monster who didn't love me,
slipping away,
in that cold house,
on that icy street.

To be in love and to be loved are far from the same,
like you and me.

Get away,
Before the ice is really the one to blame.

The day I met you I froze,
When I saw your visage, it was like my heart stopped,
My heart of ice melted,
My soul burns for you.

I see a light before me, bright as day,
I see peace ahead, but I still yearn to go own way,
The clouds on the horizon float out of sight,
On my knees, this has broken the last of my fight.

Gentle ringing fills these dead ears,
Crying tears of sorrow for my wasted years,
Yesterday's sorrows, tomorrow's white light
Soul chained beneath the ground, never to take flight.
