What difference does it make
to be different in a world of equals
if your heart feels equal
to the ones of those who feel different?
The connections between souls
just as broken as yours,
what difference does it make?
They’re just lighter
less than twenty one grams.
You’re just lighter
leaving pieces of your soul
in others’ splintered hearts.
What difference does it make
if they feel heavy while carrying
your love, your grace, your strength?
Because this is what you do
and you still have so much to give
but what difference does it make?

I find it easy to make friends, sometimes.

I befriend those around me.

Those who move too fast, those who drag so slow.

Those who change, those who shift and realign.

Those who smile, those who cry.

Some who are a mix of both.

The hardest to befriend are those who care so little; lost within themselves, forgotten like a dream.

Those who refuse to be held, to be cared for.

Those who take the terrifying edge into oblivion.

Sometimes, befriending ourselves can be quite the challenge.

You ever get that empty feeling in your chest
that you've lost someone dear to you? They're still here
but are they really here?
That's the difference.
Where have you gone?
I miss you.

"All the stuff in our veins is the same." Guy Garvey.

Some stuff is the same.

First school,
Graduation

First pet,
Grief

First bicycle,
Grazes

First kiss,
Heartbreak

Some stuff is only yours and makes you.

As the Earth rotates
We all live on this planet
Our Earth needs some help

Change things that make a difference
Changes that change opinions
Change that can be successful

We can all help out
Help others to encourage
Stimulate the change

I've found it's dangerous to be different
and that it's likely to offend
but I can't help my being me
and I no longer will pretend

that I'm the one who is at fault
that I owe an apology
when the truth is that it is you
who should get used to me

I don't mind your naive questions
I welcome every one
but don't assume that being different
makes me a source of fun

instead let's reach agreement
that we've both got lots to learn
and while I try to learn some patience
you'll learn deference in return
The dangerous thing is we all think we're the one who's different and the one who is due greater deference.
