Struggling through life
With the weight of the world on his back
The snail keeps on moving forward
Slowly but surely
Leaving a contrail of slime behind
Yet with hope of greater things to come
SiouxF Sep 2021
Perpetually adrift,
Lost down a myriad of rabbit holes,
Like Rodin’s The Thinker at the Gates of Hell,
That’s exactly where the devil wants you,
Caught up in your tangled thoughts rather than living life in the here and now,
Overwhelming emotions,
Mental confusion,
Hysteria,
Feeling like there’s
No
Way
Out....

Stop!
Breathe!
Slow down your pitch,
Lower your tone of voice,
Hand your worries to God,
Ask Him to relieve you of your burden and light your way,
Consciously choose the path of joy and love
Over fear
Time after time after time...

The tragedy is in repeating
Those sins done unto you
Your parental sins
Your ancestral sins
Chained to your neck
Weighing you down
Blighting the lives of everything you touch.
But now
Your choice
Is whether to remain shackled
Bound to fear and repression
Or to break free
And step into
Your desires
Your potential
Your possibilities
Your love
Your divine glory

Who is the woman in the mirror?
This morning it was a fierce woman
Standing in her power
Ready and willing to take on the world
On her terms.
Not just a survivor
But a thriver
A Phoenix Risen from the ashes
In all her glory
Staring right back at you.
The past hurt, pain and abuse
That had kept her playing small,
Lying all around her
In tatters,
Like dust upon the floor,
No longer attached to her,
No power in them.
Only the fierceness
Of the woman
In the mirror

Swaying in the soft gentle breeze,
succulent green leaves glisten and glow,
catching the sun's golden rays, filtering
through the coppiced canopy above,
reflecting off droplets from heaven;
Bringing the verdant vibrant woods to life.

There's many a story these woods could tell,
If only trees could talk;
Long in the night they'd stand and share,
of the songbird’s sweet call for loves lost,
the snowy owl's nocturnal adventures,
the *****’s screams of ecstasy, or pain.

And let us not forget, the forest fairies fair,
coming out to play on such a glorious morn.
Sunbathing atop a toadstool fly agaric,
Admiring the glistening golden spider's web,
Downing the nectar from a rain soaked leaf.
Washing dainty toes in the morning dew.

But don’t expect to see one.
For they are as timid as the fawn,
yet as brave as the lion.
As delicate as lace,
yet as strong as silk.
But they are there, rest assured.
Keeping the magic of the woods alive,
protecting the spirits of the trees,
and allowing the secrets of the woods to live on,
For evermore
This is the second poem I’ve written. I wrote it the morning after the storm the night before, which inspired my first poem. I was inspired and lifted by the sun filtering through the trees and reflecting off the glistening vibrant green leaves

A wordsmith sits patently
Sharpening and refining his tools.
He listens and he waits
For the deadly moment,
Knowing exactly when to strike.
He unsheathes his sword,
Pointing expertly towards his prey.
Words of shining steel
Slice through the air
Landing with intent,
Cutting with precision,
Twisting with malice,
Into this bleeding heart
Of mine.

This is me,
I am strong,
I am powerful,
I am courageous,
I make no apology for who I am,
For who I am
Is forged from pain and suffering,
The lessons were hard,
The road was long,
But led to a stronger, better, more empowered version of me.
So if you’re struggling,
Feeling weak and abused,
Hold strong,
Be steadfast,
Raise your head up high,
Look for Him who supports and inspires you,
Know your suffering will be turned into strength
And an inspiration to others.
For some it takes a while to reach this place,
To slay the dragons
And stand in our power,
But once there,
With God on our side,
Lo betide anyone who dares to put us down again!
This was inspired by someone I met today in the way they held themselves, how they were strong and true to who they are, were unapologetic for that, and in their being was an inspiration to me

Those insidious beasts
Surreptitiously winding their tendrils
Through every orifice and vacuum,
Through every artery and vein,
Through every thought and word,
Till those two imposters
Guilt and shame
Are so embedded
One knows not where one begins
And the other ends

Today I choose
Love
Trust
Joy
Gentleness

Actively choose what is good,
Shed what no longer serves you,
Surrender
Soften
Step into who you want to be
And trust all will be well
For you have more power than you realise
To create the life you want
SiouxF Nov 2020
Today
I choose
A different way
To the well worn path of old,
Today
I choose
To let go
Of all that’s holding me back,
My limiting beliefs,
My damaging thoughts,
My hurtful words,
My self flagellation.
Today
I choose
To let go
Of all I thought was wrong with me,
Of how worthless I used to feel,
Of being downtrodden with no voice.
Today
I choose to
Rise above the ashes
Of past thoughts, negative feelings and broken dreams,
And step into who I truly am,
Who I choose to be,
Who I’m meant to be,
Knowing God is within me and all around me.
Today
I choose
To trust
All is well.
Today
Is a brand new day,
An opportunity
To start living my life,
Truly living,
With love, joy, kindness and compassion,
Patience, faithfulness and grace

An exceptional poet encapsulates the human condition from their own experience.
But the pain of realising how much you have hurt someone,
How worn out they are because of you,
Is almost too much to bear.
SiouxF Jul 2021
No matter what you are going through,
Good or bad,
Challenges or joy,
Remember,
Everything is temporary,
Non-permanent,
Transient,
So either enjoy the moment,
Or learn the lesson,
And move on.
SiouxF Mar 2021
Thoughts are fleeting,
You can change
them in an instant.
Thoughts are discretionary,
You can choose
If your glass is full or empty.
Be brave and
Take responsibility for
Your beliefs,
Your thoughts,
Your feelings,
Your success,
Your life.
Change them
If they’re not how you want them to be,
If you’re not happy,
Discontented,
If life isn’t working,
For choice is the key
To a successful life well lived

Finding myself
Desperately
Treading water,
Arms and legs flailing,
Trying hard to keep my head above the waves,
Rather than succumb,
To the
Strangely
Comforting
Seductive
Clutches
and
Familiar
Embrace
of the
Abyss.

But this time,
Before it has a chance to ensnare me in its grip,
I lift my head,
I look to heaven,
And I smile,
Knowing I can choose now,
To instead rise above,
And not only that, but
Fly high above the turmoil
To my destiny and
My freedom
Freedom hope

I trust you implicitly
I’m ready
Guide me
Show me the way
And remind me to breathe

Learning to trust for the first time
After years of abuse
From those in position of power
Who should have known better.
Hope,
Faith,
Freedom from doubt,
Complete confidence in another.
But how can you trust
When you never really know
What’s going on inside another?
SiouxF Nov 2020
Trust is a choice,
We choose to trust
Or we choose to mistrust,
Often based on our past
Rather than the moment and the person in front of us,
Choosing to tarnish them with the same brush
As those who mistreated us
Those who did not have our best interests at heart.
Trust is a choice,
But do yourself a favour
And trust from the present
Trust from the heart
Trust until proven to the contrary

As I sit on this cold bench
In nature,
Twilight rising,
Feeling the crisp biting air,
Smelling the dampness of the leaves,
Sensing and finding solace in the space all around me,
I am reminded of a similar November evening as a child,
Where I stayed out as long as possible on my own,
Imagining adventures,
Enjoying the moment,
And the assault on my senses,
Until too much dark had descended,
And mum called me in.

Only the smell of a bonfire is missing now,
And no one to call me back in.
The next day I discovered this quote which sums up what I was trying to express:
“If your mind is still, you can sense the peace that emanates from the earth.”
—Eckhart Tolle

Whatever you say about me,
Whether you judge me,
Or condemn me,
I really don’t care.

I may choose to wear green with blue,
Or pink with red,
And a large straw hat.
Don a posh dress to the shops,
Or T-shirt and jeans to the opera.
I may sing in the street,
And dance in the rain.
I may stay up all night,
And sleep all day.
Work from bed in pyjamas,
Or take the day off
And swim in the sea.
I may laugh at your anger,
And cry at your humour.
Be assertive and strong,
Or bossy and proud,
Take a stand for what I believe,
Or simply let things pass me by.
I may be single and sexually active,
Or marry and abstain,
Or switch between the two.
I may be the life and soul of the party,
Or people watch from the fringe.
I may chat ten to the dozen,
Or say nothing at all.
I may spend time in your company,
Or decline for my own.
I may stay...
Or I may walk away.

It’s my life,
My choices,
My desire,
To do and be who I want day by day,
And which I choose is fine by me.

So whatever you say about me,
However you judge or condemn,
I simply don’t care!
For I’m Unapologetically
Me.

Oh the seductiveness
Of that deep dark abyss
Keeps calling,
Saying my name,
Come hither,
You know you want it,
You know you love it.
NO!
I don’t love it
And I don’t want it.
I recognise it now for what it is.
My uncomfortable comfort zone.
It’s there to keep me playing small,
To hold me back,
To imprison me
With its sticky tentacles
Of negative thinking
And victim mentality.
Bit by bit,
Moment by moment,
Hour by hour,
Day by day,
I learn to do things differently,
To change a habit of a lifetime,
To feel joy,
To seek pleasure in what I do,
To see good in those around me,
Quite simply, to live.
But vigilance my friend,
For it will always be lurking in the shadows,
To catch you unawares.
When your mind starts to fog,
Loses clarity of thinking,
Your emotions start to boil over,
Stop. Pause. Breathe.
Move your body,
Dance to an upturn beat,
Sing choirs of angels,
Jump for joy.
Change the stagnant energy
To one of the highest vibration,
To one of love
For you
And all.

Love with no conditions attached
Love in all circumstances
Love despite flaws
Love anyway
Love
SiouxF Jan 2021
“I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times…
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
My spellbound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs,
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms,
In life after life, in age after age, forever.

Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together.
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge,
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.

You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount.
At the heart of time, love of one for another.
We have played along side millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of every poet past and forever.”

~Rabindranath Tagore
