"mccain" poems
I want to get hit by a BMW.
I want to get hit by a Mercedes.
I want to get run over by a Porsche.
Something big.
I want to get smeared against the pavement
by a Cadillac Escalade.
I want to get hit by one of those big ********
who drag gasoline across the continent,
but I want the driver to be a manic psychopath.
I want him to stalk me on the sidewalk
and then run me over slowly.
He's not any coward, not like those bald patriarchal
Corvette drivers in polo shirts tucked into khakis.
No, he's a great fat man, a hairy beast with
a crooked stare that slows the pulse on impact.
I want the police to cringe or get scared interrogating him,
and haul his truck somewhere to be inspected.
I want the price of gas in nearby areas to go up
by at least fifteen cents for two weeks.
I want to get hit by a BMW.
I want to roll over the windshield,
and drag under the bottom for about ten yards.
I want to separate at the middle and leave organs on his
left side view mirror and hanging on his hood ornament.
I want to seep blood deep into his car,
and when he turns on his heat,
he'll smell my blood full blast in his face
burning.
I want to wreck the car inside and out.
I want to get hit by a car with a McCain sticker on the bumper.
I don't want to get hit by some middle class Ford or Honda,
or someone's shit-level Chevy or beat up jalopy.
I want to get hit by a BMW.
I want the driver to make his tires scream like banshees,
and leave four long streaks of rotten burned rubber on the asphalt.
I want him to step out in business attire, and gasp, inwardly.
I want to flip off the sky, because my aim is bad,
and call him a coward for hitting the brakes.
I want him to think,
"What did I do?
Is he Okay?
What am I going to do?
What if I lose my license?
How will I get to work?
How will I pay for this.
Does my insurance cover
vehicular manslaughter?
I'm not alone right?
I'll get through this.
I'll survive.
I'll just be another statistic.
That's all."

It's like a blind man leading a poor man
He sees the cliff coming but he doesn't mind
Grateful to have company on the way down
Thinks the cloud they'll fall through will be silver lined
It's like the teenager who just gave birth to a still born accident
It hurts real bad inside
But she's grateful that if she returns all the diapers everybody bought her
She might have enough money to buy a prom dress
Thinks the pain she feels will be silver lined
It's like the boyfriend of the young girl who just gave birth to the still born child
Grabs his cleats out the closet
Grateful he still has time to get a college scholarship
Dumped her over the phone
Said he didn't like the way her ***** *** whined
Thinks adding another drop to the bucket of pain he will never feel is silver lined
It's like a young man who works at a gas station
With dreams so big he'd have to run the world to accomplish them
Grows up, gets marrieds, gets settled, and settles
Knows the only way he'll make the TV is by beating his wife
Grateful that strangers know who he is
Thinks the jail time he's serving is silver lined
It's like the grown man who has everything the boy at the gas station ever wanted
Doesn't want it, wishes he could give it back, but can't
So he buys houses, clothes, and Cadillacs
Grateful to have enough
Thinks the silver lining on his silver Cadi is silver lined
It's like the overwhelmed twenty something year old who puts a lock on her own knife drawer
Too proud to get help
Grateful that she has a boyfriend willing to take the brunt
Of all the problems she can't see past
Thinks the inconvenience of the knife drawer is silver lined
It's like the boyfriend of the overwhelmed twenty something year old
Who takes the brunt of all the problems she can't see past
Grateful he has a key to the knife drawer
Thinks the blood on the floor will be enough
To show her there's more to the world than the problems she can't see past
Thinks his mama's heartache will be silver lined
It's like the staunch republican who got laid off last year
Now he's so broke he's on unemployment, food stamps, and TANF
Grateful the democrats were in control during the great depression
Still voted for John McCain
Thinks the bumper sticker on the back of his car is silver lined
It's like the young family started by a couple kids
Who insisted on having a couple of their own
Now they're too poor to afford but too rich for assistance
Begging their government to bail them out of something that nursery rhymes got them into
Grateful their truck didn't break down again this month
Thinking raising hungry babies is silver lined
It's like a poor man leading a blind man
Who knows the cliff is coming
Knows they're going over and doesn't really mind
Grateful to finally be in the company of someone just as blind as he is
Thinking the cloud they'll fall through is silver lined.

The weather outside is "Colder Than My Heart, If You Can Imagine" (A Day To Remember)
but that won't stop me from "Bleeding Out" (Imagine Dragons)
and you know I won't be "Happy" (Pharrell Williams)
as I am "Without You Again" (Sam Shaber)
I would never try to force you to "Stay" (Mayday Parade)
don't try to tell me I need "Therapy" (All Time Low)
until you hear "Both Sides Of The Story" (We Are The In Crowd)
you've always told me to be "Brave" (Sara Bareilles)
but now I'm afraid of the "Demons" (Imagine Dragons)
I'm sure we can "Let It Go" (Demi Lovato)
after all we're just "Human" (Christina Perri)
as long as you know "I'll Be" (Edwin McCain)
more than "Weightless" (All Time Low)
up here like a "Satellite" (Rise Against)
but now you're back so let's "Begin Again" (Taylor Swift)
and "Step" (Vampire Weekend)
to our "First Dance" (Nevershoutnever!)

until we're "Out of Time" (A Day To Remember)

In the year two-thousand and eight
While running for president
Senator John McCain stated
That we need more nuclear energy,
He stated that nuclear energy,
is safe and friendly to the enviroment.
Nuclear energy, he said is clean
because it doesn't pollute the air.
He said that nuclear energy is the
Wave of the future.
Yesterday, One Twenty-nine Ten. I
read in the newspaper that the state
of Vermont was going to vote on
closing down its nuclear energy plant.
It seems that ever since it began
leaking Tritium (a highly toxic by-product
of nuclear energy) into its drinking
water they've determined a link to
the sudden high rate of cancer.
Tritium has also been found in water
supplies near nuclear plants in
Illinois and New York. But, those
states have chosen not to react.
I think we should wave goodbye to
nuclear plants before everyone will
have to wave goodbye to their future
wrote a song about it
CLEAN TRITIUM
Hey Mr. Senator!
Give us a glass of that
Clean, clean tritium
Cancer's great stuff
We need more of that
Give us clean, clean tritium
Hey all New Yorkers
Illinois and Vermont
Drink up! Clean, clean tritium
No, we can't breathe
But, at least we had that
Not, that clean, clean tritium
How about serving
A bottle to Congress
Drink up! Clean, clean tritium
The House is refusing?
What's all the confusing
It's clean, clean tritium
Mmm it's so tasty
Just like cows from the sixties
Clean, clean tritium
Death is delicious
Who cares what's nutritious
It's clean, clean tritium
Hey Mr. President
You drunk a glass yet?
Clean, clean tritium
Everybody die
It's the only way to fly
It's that clean, clean tritium
He promised us health care
All we have is death here
That clean, clean tritium
Clean Clean Tritium
Clean Clean Tritium
Clean Clean Tritium

From the East Coast of Ireland to the Lowlands of Scotland,
a well-trodden path,
Grandma going to Whiteinch Baths,
to do the family laundry,
And to take my Auntie for a swim,
the black and white photos look a bit grim.
She mispronounces certain words.
When you put your dinner in between some bread,
she'd look at you, dead, and say,
"If yis waanted sangwhiches, I'd have made yis sangwhiches!"
And, "you're very pass-remarkable,"
I think it means you're quick to comment on others,
my Mother's also from Glasgow,
and doesn't know why Grandma speaks like that,
so this isn't just me being a Sassenach,
or a daft English ****
25th of January is Burns Night,
serve the neeps, tatties, a glass of fizz,
and of course, some Haggis.
Some say offal's awful,
but I just can't get enough of the stuff.
A firm favourite of our clan is a creamy dessert named Cranachan.
Topped with berries and a splash of whiskey,
you can guarantee a thumbs up from me.
The ancient family tartan is red and blue,
then there's the family crest too,
a knight with a shield under a tree,
I think it represents gallantry.
I sometimes wish I had a proper Scottish name,
like Hamilton, Douglas, or McCain,
don't suppose it matters,
at least I can understand the patter,
(that means joke or language.)
A saying about saving your coins,
"Mony a mickle macks a muckle,"
always makes me chuckle.
"Does it, aye?"
is a very dry reply,
used to take the **** and can be easy to miss.
When my Mum was younger, the family liked to roam,
but when she visits Glasgow,
she says it feels like home,
her voice even changes when she's on the phone.
Sounds English most of the day,
then my Auntie calls, and she's on her way,
"Haud ye weesht!" when she picks up the phone,
that means be quiet,
but you wouldn't have known,
that isn't her normal speaking tone.
Scottish family,
some are distant to me,
but through my parentage,
it's nice to have the heritage.

"Palestinian boy chucks rock at Israeli soldier.
Sixty-seven unarmed civilians killed in self defense,
against these evil terrorists. Prime Minister Netanyahu declares
'These continuos violent aggresive terrorist attacks against
the kind, freedom loving, law abiding people will not be tolerated.
If necessary we will **** countless more, until these monsters cease their terrorist attacks.' Senator Mccain, when asked about what he thinks about the situation said, 'I think Israel has every right to take justifiable military action against the terrorist government of Syria.'
Man on the street wearing a **** all ragheads tshirt says, 'All these heathen moslems are all the same. We don't need any reason to **** them, other than the fact that they hate us, and want us and Israel to be wiped off the map. These sandn*#@ers, are all irrational, racist, anti-semite, violent, camel ****** savages. I hate them, and if it wasn't for my extreme cowardice, I'd go over there and wipe them off the map myself.' This is the thousandth case of Hamas terrorist aggression in the last year, and many experts believe that war against Iran will be necessary to stop the violence. Coming up after the commercial
'Are Prince Harry and Emma Watson seriously dating!?'

Drove 75 miles each way
To see Colbie Callait,
Somewhere in Connecticut,
That was back
In 2009,
Maybe 2010,
Maybe 2011.
Enjoyed it immensely,
Other than
The only thing
Older than me
At the concert
Was the building
It was held in.
And everybody at work made fun of me.
Took my woman
Downtown to the
High Line Ballroom
A few years back,
Edwin McCain,
He sang
I'll Be.
It was fine,
Other than
I was the tallest person
Standing on line.
Last year
Danced on a conga line
Led by Pink Martini,
At Carnegie Hall.
Ain't embarrassed to admit,
They dragged me from my front row seat,
Kicking n' screaming,
Hope nobody was videotaping!
At the Beacon on Broadway,
Saw Paul Simon and
Straight No Chaser,
And I would do it again in a
A Capella second.
This year,
High up at Lincoln Center,
Overlooking Central Park and
My city sparkling,
Saw Ingrid Michaelson singing,
It's OK.
She was giggling,
Cause it was so fun, for her,
To act so grown up.
Her parents and sisters
Even came to see her.
Sometime ago saw Marc Cohn, singing,
Don't remember when, don't recall,
Walking in Memphis,
Even tho both of us were at
City Center on West Forty Third Street.
At the City Winery,
In NoHo
Don Felder did Hotel California,
Went to the backstage partee
Cause I was around when
he first penned it,
When he was still part of the Eagles.
For an old geezer,
Born in 1901,
I'm pretty cool,
Despite the occasional mistake.
But I know better than to go to see
Justin Bieber,
Way too cool for that,
So those ticket to
Taylor Swift,
Ripped,
Having never seen
the light of day,
I think I even pretended to
Throw them away...

Twenty eighteen has come and gone,
And all I can say is, What a year!
That twenty nineteen will also be
Just as crazy is crystal clear.
Mass shootings once again
Shook the country, taking a toll
On all of us, and yet very little
Has been done about gun control.
Always the center of controversies,
Trump again tried to assuage
The public by pleading ignorance
When Stormy Daniels took center stage.
Then we learned that Trump had paid
Hush money to flings at least TWICE
In hopes to secure his chances of winning
The twenty sixteen election. How nice!
A lot of Trump's team have left
Through the admin's revolving door,
Always mired in controversy.
There are bound to be many more.
Trump has proved he loves his tyrants
More than he loves our allies and friends.
Ignoring advice from experts, he'll do
Whatever Putin recommends.
Hurricanes caused major flooding;
California was ravaged by fires.
Yet dire warnings go unheeded
By stalwart climate change deniers.
The separation of families seeking
Asylum showed a callous side
Of Trump and his team, whose inhumane
Actions cannot be denied.
Year two of investigations…
Manafort, Gates, Cohen, and Flynn
Are talking more, while the walls
Around Donald Trump are closing in.
Meanwhile Trump continues to lie.
There's no end to his subterfuge.
How many lies? Eight thousand?
And Giuliani plays his stooge.
Kavanagh got a Supreme Court seat
After a sham investigation,
Which shows how Trump maintains the belief:
What's good for Trump is good for the nation.
November saw a welcome blue wave
Sweep through the House. Such a delight!
This should end Nunes' obstruction
Of justice. There will be oversight!
We lost three prominent people:
Barbara and George Bush and McCain.
Very few members of
The old Republican guard remain.
Trump cannot stop harping on
His WALL--a waste of money and time.
With our crumbling infrastructure,
Building his "wall" would be a crime.
What will the New Year bring forth?
Perhaps an indictment? Perhaps an arraignment?
Since Trump loves to be the star,
THAT'S what I'd call entertainment!

Smackdab in the middle of the republican conspiracy,
Halfased the halfmasting of the Blackhouse flag,
Unceremoniously, in an unfitting measure of their lack
Of respect for 'Real Deal' Republican, hero, McCain.
RumputiN said, "he wasn't a hero, heroes don't get caught".

You helped me to see beyond mountains and you achieve above valleys
Senator John McCain, you died with dignity and honor
Your devotion to Politics was Washington, DC’s gain
Your life will always be instilled in our hearts
Your mark being your first time as a Soldier and when you entered the floors of the Senate
Your war battles were strong and fierce
Yet you stayed the course
This gave you strength to be the Senate’s force
Achiever is your accomplishment
Each given speech was your emotions for the American people
Courage was first hand
Arizona mourns
But you passed through in a desert storm being your moment
Cactus trees saluted in honor
It was your mission that you achieved victory in every sense
It didn’t matter if was a battle with President Trump or the GOP
It was your presence in going forth for all to see
You covered both sides of the track being a Soldier and a Senator
You were the Veterans mouthpiece in fighting for their rights
Salute now and forever more
Yet, you want the American people to remember you in always being prepared to do battle
Fighting for what’s right
You opened the Senate floor in plain sight
Your scars are many
But there is only one Senator John McCain
It was commitment and responsibility that were your vital signs
However, your work was complete
Heaven called and said, “I will give you rest”
Each given period in your Senate years was a test
But you always gave your best
You passed each time
This achievement is your reward to Heaven inviting you to come up
Join the many before
Your history will follow for sure
Cannons are going off in the distance in your honor
But your spirit will always have a Washington, DC Capitol presence
You will always be remembered as the Well Spoken Resident
You ask that the American people, Family and Friends in not to cry for you
“I was a Soldier”
Hold your head up
Just Salute
Your victory has already been won
You are now in Heaven being among
Continue on my work you would say, and let my previous words be your guide
From time to time, my spirit will stop by
Washington, DC has loss but became Heaven’s gain
This is not goodbye, but until we meet again
As I laid in the Capitol Rotunda, think on me as a Veteran and a Senator
I salute you Soldier and Senator John McCain
My heartfelt sorrow and remembrance will always remain.

He isn’t a fan of
John McCain
But the fact of the matter
Will remain
Despite the hurtful
Words he said
John McCain
Is no less dead
John McCain
Was a prisoner of war
The same war
Trump chose to ignore
Yet he is still
Keeping score
Against a dead war hero
Because Trump is a bore
I believe what
Will Shakespeare said
The evil men do
Lives on when they’re dead
From the play Julius Caesar
Which Trump never read
Makes one wonder what goes on
Inside his small head
He’ll never be the man
That John McCain was
You only have to look at
What that narcissist does
To know that he’s sick
Because, because
No one makes more faux pas

the moon rolls out and you're still awake
school starts in 7 hours but it's okay
"I'll just glide through class half asleep, half awake."
(10) did it even occur to you that people care about you more than you think?
like your mom, dad, friends, her or me?
when I say her I mean ya girl because I'm not sure of her name
you've never mentioned her to me until 3/23/15
but **** it, tip buckets, kick rocks cause life zooms in a flash
(15) cause when you're older it won't matter about the money and CASH
I mean it will because everything in America is revolved around money
but at least you'll have good finance and a fine *** honey
sooner or later you will realize who is important
you'll remember that person or phrase that made life seem un-shortened
(20) you'll remember the face that left an imprint in your heart
that every time you see them you would re-meet them from the start
you're mysterious like a plot off of goosebumps
not slimy grimy or gross the part where you get butterflies in your stomach
not sure how that ties in with the series
but it makes sense to me, oddly
(25) you seem like you find euphoria in loneliness, but you probably don't
I'm categorizing you again with my heart of stone
creativity flows within you, I can see it within the hazel
even though I've never seen you face to face, I know I've seen you cause I'm able
right minded, but you talk with your left brain
(30) music whirls within your soul, but you speak like politician, John McCain
great lover I can tell with the way you tweet
I know you love your momma like Norman Stark loves the sea
I know you got sweet talk in between your white teeth
I know that you use it, maybe not towards me
(35) I'll never forget you JPSM, or should I call you jack?
you never told what the PSM meant in fact
or maybe I never asked, or maybe I'll leave it quite mysterious
disclaimer: after you read this line, I'll probably end up deleting this

I still think about you sometimes.
What you’d say to me now,
what music you’d listen to on the radio.
Who you would have voted for last year,
McCain or Obama?
I think Obama.
I know I barely knew you,
and was far too young to
have any memories with you –
but I still imagine these things,
and others.
I imagine what I’d be like
if you hadn’t died.
I wonder sometimes
if I’d be the same person I am now –
the stubborn liberal,
outspoken even when I know
I’m losing the argument.
I wonder what memories I’d have,
ones that now are filled
with your absence.
My only memory of us
together is in my baby book –
a snapshot of you, in
our house on Wooddrift,
holding my two-week old body and
smiling down at me.
I still think of you that way –
smiling down at me.

Lindsey, won’t give an inch
In saying, “ The president’s being lynched!’
While he knows that’s not square biz
Becsuse he knows what a lynching is
So why is he playing dumb
In South Carolina where he comes from
Over 150 black slaves were hung
From the tree branches on which they swung
What the president’s going through
Is not ****** As he knew
So he has no right to equate
Impeachment with the kind of hate
That my forebears sadly endured
And he can also rest assured
Trump would be screaming from the rafters
Calling on his fallen pastors
He’d defend the devil himself
By the Holy Book on his shelf
If it meant he wouldn’t be contested
Or otherwise politically molested
So he’ll be obsequious
To the man in whom he trusts
But he can’t believe in both
His position or his oath
He's become Trump’s sycophant
And he's as tiny as an ant
He's as sheepish as a lamb
I'm talking about Senator Lindsey Graham
McCain is rolling in his grave
Cuz he's become Donald Trump’s slave
If he has any sense of dignity
It becoming harder, and harder to see

After denigrating the Khan family,
dishonoring John McCain,
delaying donation cheques,
gathering dignified Veterans
as a so useful backdrop
to prove his genuine
love of the people,
this draft-dodging golf playing
lover of 'our brave soldiers'
brings the house down
has mothers weeping
& receives the mighty
acclaim as being "Now,
Now A President!"
even from that rational
critic Van Jones
Of CNN,
one speech tugging at pride,
nation & desperate loss
& he's now the president?
this is all it took,
this cynical
lying theatric,
one crafty move in Congress
can't make up for a history
of bigotry & hate
oh no
Trump
it cannot!
