Crashing through the waves lies an inimitable gaze
She seems to speak in earnest
But nature pounds on her chest for days
Lost long ago
Alas she knows not of his ways

I am your stem
and leaf that
supports you as we
reach out on sunny days.

We soak up each
other's tears like rain
growing stronger
when clouds prevail.

You my love
are that rare and
beautiful flower that
blossoms for only me...

Winter Storm Warning
For tonight, chance of snow:
Chance of conditions you do not know.
"Friday night, snowy, windy,
May last ‘til Sunday,"
Maybe one day,
You’ll be laid low.

Pack all the supplies you can,
Into a bunker or four-wheel drive van,
Throw in some extras, like a tire that's bare
And tell your kids, “Let’s go.”
But where? You pretend to know.

"Anywhere, anywhere I don't care!"
Away from the house with the giant tree,
That might fall and crush you, mother and me.
Away from power lines crackling on ice,
They’re explosive and electrocution's not very nice!

Up from Cape Hatteras,
Barrels the storm,
Where we’ve heard horror tales
Of strong gales and anxious watch,
Do we trust our lazy guts or the isobars?

On to New York,
Where they never quail
In the face of danger
Though the winds might wail,
Past Block Island with towering waves
To the Sound and the fury and gale.

We grit our teeth and batten the hatches,
Tell stories of worse weather watch to soothe,
Keeping voices low and emotions smooth.
Yet weather folks, hysterical, predict our fate,
Willing the worst, making us wait.

This time the flickering power stays on,
Our street isn't flooded
And the roof's not gone.
"All that fuss for nothing!" say the young and brave,
While you have that same dream of an old, rogue wave.
Probably inspired by an actual storm warning, how frightened people (especially kids) can be, or how calm. Some of the silly planning is included, things that won't really help. And the way it often amounts to nothing, but whose fear always hovers somewhere--in the back of one's mind, or in dreams.

I think it is raining
I heard drips
just now starting
like the beginning
of a heavy storm

Clouds ready to burst
full and heavy rain
waiting to pour down
it pings on my window
sweetly and rhythmic

Gentle drops now
but soon a typhoon
everything starts small
before it hits big
with a crescendo of noise

so I watch content
but a little wary
from my window
as the sky dribbles
like staccato notes
I love rain way to much. I’m just relaxing before the storm hits now.

you can’t hold onto dead things forever,
someone should’ve told you that.
before you planted all those flowers for a boy who left you
standing in the rain with a handful of dead roses.
the storm almost killed me
aslana Nov 2019
my mother always said,
“home is where your heart is”.

I never realized what that meant
until it’s foundation unexpectedly built itself around
the way you made me laugh harder than anyone else ever has
And the fact that
the walls of my residence raised themselves
With you inside them.

I was fearless when I met you,
but now
I cower in the dark
out of terror
at the thought of the
trees above us collapsing
onto the roof in the middle of the storm.

I used to sleep peacefully,
But now I toss and turn all night,
Waking up every hour,
In a cold sweat,
Thinking
“What if you lose the keys and never come back”

Love was always just a word,
but it became something more when I looked at you.
It struck the trees,
burned a hole right through the center,
and ignited a flame that never went out,
even when it rained.

But with the rain comes
Thunder, lightning,
Darkness, frigity,
Blood, bone,
And tears that would flood the basement.

The wind huffed and puffed,
And blew my whole notion of a house down,
Shaking my home
so violently,
That it stripped the carpet
Inch by inch,
And the outside,
brick by brick
Until you moved out because
Our sanctuary
Had became an inhabitable living space.

The weather is dangerous and always changing,
And despite the fact you try,
you can’t save everything from the storm.

No matter how hard I will try to keep the floorboards from coming up,
And how hard I will try to keep the shingles on the roof from coming apart,
An umbrella can’t stop a hurricane,
A child with a hose can’t stop a wildfire,
A lit match can’t stop a blizzard,
A band aid can’t heal a **** that will never stop bleeding,

And my house,
No matter how many times I rebuild it,
Will never stop burning to the ground.

Sing for me, oh wind chime!

Winds are blowing from north to south,
Skies are darkening from up above,
Rains are showering over a white robe, and
the globe is dancing with a mild glow.

So sing for me, oh wind chime!

Blue jays are pecking at an oak tree,
Spinning around squirrels who are as carefree,
Unaware of a herd of deer roaming free,
their intelligence only bettered by their calling soiree.

So sing for me, oh wind chime!

Even as the prairie of a backyard is so beautiful,
when winds are so peaceful,
flowing the dandelions along plentiful,
depositing themselves on young ones a handful.

So sing for me, oh wind chime!

It is the time of year
Upon which the air rests, sick
With a moderate fever
And the wind speaks more robustly,
Through thin skin

It is when the great keeper of time hastens
As if preparing to leave his hearth
And venture into the great white strokes

To hear robins
Treading lightly
Upon half frozen dew
