Hooray

I'll meet You here today
so that our hearts will get to play.
and our smiles will go back from yesterday,
Oh, yesterday.
Our souls will stretch out far and lay
peacefully quiet in Your welcoming hay.
I'll stay forever, and I'll pray
for others to join us every day.
It'll be my pleasure, I'll say; hooray!

Thank YOU, that I am not perfect!

I take off this heavy yoke,
This burden that cripples my spirit and robs my joy.
What is it like to live a different life?
To believe something different from what I've spoke.

To try new things and become more of YOUR joy.
Thank YOU that I'm not perfect!

Thank YOU that I can make mistakes,
And can try again.
There are many possibilities ahead!
I can zoom ahead and I can apply the breaks,
I can stumble and re-wire my brain.

Thank YOU that I'm not perfect!
So here's to another attempt,
So here's to continuing on the journey...
No matter what…willingly and NOT circumspect!

Have you ever known silence?
Where even the mind stops to listen,
No pollution by intrusions
Nay saying finger-wagging doubts,
Not one person waiting in line at the bullet train
That connects from passive to aggressive
Just the still staggering quiet.

Have you ever known peace?
Where should decompress,
No longer cosplaying atlas
Holding the weight of all that burdens
While taking the cleanest breaths
Deep and revitalizing oxygen satiating the blood,
While the face feels pain from finally-
Letting go of squinted vision, furled brows
And forced smiles.
Where it’s just the calm settling in nerves,
It’s almost too fantastical - surely a myth
But obtainable.

Have you ever known love?
Not the placated give and take,
Not the candy-covered lust under the covers
Not even the giddy resplendence when seeing that movie
Or hearing that tune, I’m talking love.
That heart-crushing,
Would go on a crusade to defend,
Sword-wielding and Fourth of July firework love-making
That daring to dare to dare to be better
That salve to cure wounds once thought fatal
Mortally immortalized in the space of a single kiss
Have you ever known that love?

All of life’s greatest gifts,
We overlook the material,
And it kills us all, it’s rather serial
We can’t spell it out in the cereal
But it’s there if you search beyond,
And break the mold.

Weary but not wasted

Drawing on power from He who rides upon the clouds,
To face the battles this day that mount.
Reignite in me an unquenchable fire.
That stirs my spirit from the One that inspires.

My eyes seek Thee in restless despair,
Through tempests wild, through hollow air.
O’ guiding flame in twilight deep,
Awake my soul, from sorrow’s sleep.

Show me Thy glimpse, if only a stare,
A spark of hope, a breath of prayer.
O’ Keeper of life, my heart’s lone plea,
Shine forth Thy grace, come set me free.

Thou art the faith I cherish and adore,
The silent hush, the thunder’s roar.
Dwell in my heart, take root in my soul,
Mend these fragments, make me whole.

Through shadowed vales and boundless night,
Thy whisper calls, a song of light.
No tear may fall, nor spirit break,
Where love endures and dawn doth wake.

Thy presence is all my soul doth crave,
To walk with Thee, steadfast and brave.
Come to my solitude—my heart to save,
Lift me from darkness, my soul to pave

Ablaze

Burn all my impurities;
May they sing:
“This girl is on fire!”

Within my soul, a flame celestial glows,
A spark unyielding, born where longing flows.
Desires, like fleeting shadows, rise and wane,
Yet one remains—eternal, pure, unstained.

O’ soul! To claim thine own, to stand sublime,
Unbound by fate, untouched by dust or time.
To merge as rivers seek the boundless sea,
To find in love the truth that sets us free.

This is the call that stirs my restless breast,
A thirst unslaked, a fire yet unblessed.
O’ Lord of Light, unchain this heart of mine,
That I in union’s rapture may divine!

Return to connection

Turn again to your mother’s *****
And risk vulnerability;
Courageous kindness in a world of disconnection.

Wild & Desperate

Most of life is spent curled;
Caught in the wild and desperate places,
Straddling between two worlds;
Satisfied and striving, for more space,
The here-and-now and the not-yet-inspired.
Being enough and constantly unlaced.
Lent is the practice of sacrifice (going without) and remembrance. I am giving up chocolate this year and will try to write a poem in my new “Lent Collection” each day. Enjoy!
My love will reach every atom of your being—
touching the physical with my lips,
the unseen with my heart.

And beyond the atoms,
my love will reach the mysterious force
that binds them,
the force that shaped you
into the soul I treasure.

With my soul,
I will connect to yours,
beyond the visible,
beyond the known.
