In the morning I woke up
To warm my bones
A chair welcomed me
to my roof top patio
I stretched my arms to the sun
It filled me up- It filled me up
Till I was full
And the cars, the planes and the trains
all buzzed by

At about noon I made my lunch
It was good
Took a few bites
Gave the rest to the dogs in the neighborhood
It fell from the sky
so they praised at the top of their lungs
It filled them up- It filled them up
till they were full
And the bugs, the birds, and various cats
all passed by

Later that night
I layed down my head
my eyelids were heavy
before they caved in
I drifted softly back to sleep
it filled me up- it filled me up
till I was full
and the stars, the trees, and the cool night breeze
came to me
they came to me, in my dreams

I have two purrfect sweethearts and I'm smitten.
They are yellow and they're my two new kittens.
One of my babies is a girl and the other is a boy.
There's nothing like pets to bring a person joy.
They're beautiful, adorable and tame.
George and Peggy are their names.
I love to stroke their soft fur.
When I pet them, they purr.
They've taken a shine to me and owning them is something I'll never regret.
They're two purrfect sweethearts and they're wonderful pets.

Cats have dreams, or so it seems
Their paws move like Mike Andretti
Chase laser beams on carpet seams,
Or dangling strings of spaghetti
Perhaps they recall catching some small
prey on the ancient Serengeti
And then just doze in a treetop repose
"I'll just snooze until they pet me!"
I wrote this for my daughter to get her into poetry

A shadow dances across the hall
You panic and I laugh
"Babe, it was just the cat,"
You roll your eyes and fidget
Pause kissing me for a minute
"It could have been your parents,"
I pull your chin down to mine
Wrap my legs around you tight
"If it was I wouldn't mind,
they'd be happy to see me with a boy so fine,"
The smile returns to your face
You grab my legs and lift me up
"Hold on to me tight enough,"
Spinning around spooked the cat this time
All it saw was our shadows disappear into the night time

Crazy Cat Lady? Uh-uh!
I'm the Crazy Cat!
Come to mama, sweetie
let's have a little chat

need to get a few things straight
need to set some bounds
don't you worry 'bout my weight
I could use a few more pounds

so feed me several times a day
cream, cheese and tuna fish
beef pate and chicken stew
in stemmed fancy crystal dish

my bed is not nearly soft enough
it feels just like a Brillo
so I'll just have your bed
but I'll need a fluffier pillow

my collar, it has no pizzazz
it's such a drab old thing
I require one with jewels
my beauty demands some bling

if you agree to all these needs
I just might stick around
if not, well check these teeth and claws...

oh yes, I also want a diamond crown

Sigourney was a saltwater princess
born from a flash flood;
a stray cat I found
stuck between the boards
of a wooden fence.

Her cries mimicked
the local 6 o'clock siren
with a backdrop
of toe beans fettering
on a park sidewalk.

I mirrored the way
her left paw traced
the cracks of the cement,
(fast paced, sloppily),
then ushered her out
using a combination of
strength and saliva.

"It's okay,
you won't get wet,"
I whispered
as my left hand struggled
getting out a plastic bag.

Carefully,
with precision,
Sigourney was plopped
backwards into
torn up plastic
marked
Have A Nice Day!

Alone we trudged
through flooded baseball fields
and gazebos
to cross the highway.

"Do you want
to go home?
Do you have
a home?"

I took a shortcut through
the Taco Bell drive-thru,
cars honking,
claws breaking through
malleable material.
cotton, skin, etc.

Sigourney said nothing.

"Good,
because I don't know
if I want to."

Tucked into a bag tucked into a jacket,
we headed westward
as far as we could,
before a cop approached
a teen at midnight
technically committing
a catnapping.
