Him
You had me at hello
No, you had me at the first syllable
You had me at the inhale before you spoke
You had me always
But I never had you
My biggest regret was not choosing you
I had you in the palm of my hand
And promised I had you secured
Within the knuckles of my grasp
And you started slipping
All the girls whispered about the boy
with the dark eyes and beautiful smile
And how could they not?
What chance did I have
I can see in his eyes he's empty
Maybe that's what the drugs are for
Although he'd never admit it
I know he's so much more than he makes himself out to be
He'd be the best worst decision of my life
But in the end it's him

It's always been him

Hoping for forever
Wishing for the best
Wanting to tie the knot
And together build our nest

But we’re gonna Chris Brown crawl to love
So that we know that it’s right
I can’t even see our end
I can’t even picture one fight

Perfect in each other’s eyes
And that’s when we get humble
But let’s put our worries aside
And just get ready to rumble

Your hand in mine
My heart in yours
The L word is what
This poem refers

I hope these poems and letters
Make your memory box complete
So I would be the last suitor
That you’ll ever have to meet.

Numb

She's becoming numb to him
She use to feel comfort in there kiss
Now she can't feel the texture of his lips
It's like he's not there
Like she's kissing air
She loved his voice
But now it's like he's horsed
Somewhere along the line she lost him
When she looks his way
Her gaze he doesn't meet
Because he too has become numb
He use to run his fingers through her hair
The feeling of it set him free
Like he was touching a cloud
But now a storm has set in
He loved her hugs
But now it feels like he's touching a hollow shell
And when he does look in her eyes
Love is not there
Only a blank stare
He was her reflection and she was his
But now it's only transparency
They look through each other
She's out on the porch giving her life to a little white stick
Blowing smoke in the air
Using her fingers to draw images in it
And he sits in what use to be her favorite chair
Staring at a muted tv screen
He found peace in the quiet
But when they slept
They dreamed of of each other
Every morning the woke next to each other
And somewhere sat hope
Trying to build a bridge
To mend the gap the swept between them
And bring them back together
Hoping there's still time
To fix what's broken

          it is a poignant thought...
          that in this life
we often know more of a thing
          by its absence
          than by its presence;
          that we do not know,
          yes,
          truly know…
          love,
          in all
          its ins,
          its outs
          until life
          ends…

for they who pass over         yet for they who remain
to the other side,          on this other side,
love to them becomes          love to them becomes
a love transforming          a love of mourning
        an all-surrounding,         an all-surrounding,
             unconditional,          pained condition,
      a love ever-warming          a love ever-wanting
and more perfectly          and more palpably,
         touchable, immutable,         touchable, immutable,
and in its presence is         and in its absence is
more contentment          more torment
   and happiness         and distress
       a one belonging         an ever-longing
       love          love
         than any         than any
       theretofore         heretofore
        known;         known.

post script.

this musing is the result of reading your beautiful poetry
this morning and seeing how many wrote of heartbreak…
whether through death, divorce, break-up or misunderstanding,
each lends to the knowledge of what love is not
and therefore to what love is.
this plain is such a broken place, it is truly a wonder
any of us ever experience any love at all…
and yet thankfully we do.

*(creating columns on HP is at best a difficult proposition.  of course the format changes from device to device.  after much work this looks acceptable on my laptop, my ipad, and on my smartphone in landscape view only.  my smartphone in portrait view... not so much! :) however you choose to view it, enjoy!)

Every day we pass thousands of people on the street, and barely even a hello is exchanged, maybe a smile if your lucky.
It might be a little funny to think that each of these people are going wherever they are going, they are living their lives and you have the opportunity to be apart of it even if it's just five seconds.
You can do a lot with five seconds, for all you know a quick smile to someone passing by might change their life.
Despite someone's appearance, they could be a completely different person that you might expect, breaking the stereotype.
The sweet old women sitting next to you on the train, smiling and talking as if the world was heaven, is counting her numbered days.  The coloured man across from you with the bloodied knuckles and bruised face saved a teenage girl from being ***** last night.
The 18-year-old ******* the other side of the train, showing more skin than clothing in a ******.
And the boy in the corner covered in tattoos and piercings and is wearing only black is on his way to the hospital to read to the children in the cancer wing like he does every afternoon ever since he lost his little sister.
My point is simple, nothing is rarely as it seems. Each stranger you pass has there own story. Don't judge based off what you see because your vision is a misconception.
You got me to rest after a week and a half.
I'm not really sure how,
You left my mind at ease
And I walked away from the pain.

It's 2 am and I'm awake again.
The sound of your voice is all I need.
It's 2 am and I'm falling back under.
Just thinking about you pleases me.

0230 rolls by, and then 0300,
I'm still hearing your voice.
I know I can rest easy with you.
Its 0500 now and you've set me free.

The night is the darker than my own heart,
I never thought I'd fall apart,
blood drips but I don't care,
I say another prayer,
lost all my hair.

Everyone had a dream and plan for me except me...
I'd rather flee,
no purpose for me here on Earth,
I knew this since birth,
I'd be happier dead but there's too much to unearth.

I've given up looking for a reason to live,
I'd rather just forgive,
I wouldn't trade my depression to anyone,
I'd deal with it if I could run,
I know I've come undone.

It seems that I am indeed
Just another lost soul
Perhaps Floyd was right
Maybe the world is a fishbowl

But you see, the trouble
In all of this nonsense
Is that I still hope to see
You hop over my fence

Please tear down my wall
Oh, won't you come in?
I've been feeling comfortable
Yet numb, dismissing my sin

So what are we?
Essentially good, or not?
Do you find favor in Socrates?
Is Nietzche's idea the one you bought?

Let's question, let us wonder
Should my thoughts go assunder
Don't tip or toe, or go tumbling under
Nevermind the noise, it's just thunder

Get caught up in the spark
The rigid structure of light
Because you are alive
So live this gift of your life
