Forest so quiet from snow through the night.
Such new and pure beauty all covered in white.

There's something special on being the first to behold.
For it seemingly safeguards one's heart from the cold.

Like walking through a wardrobe into a magical place.
A glimpse of my youth could be seen on my face.

Forest so quiet from snow through the night.
Glitters like diamonds with the sun's morning light.

Snow
Falls softly
Some flakes
             Flutter
                     Right
          Some flakes
      Float
Left
Any which way
They will or wish
But always whispering
Hushhhh
And always softly

They need no words;
Some wet,
       Some light
The white
    Flurries hurry
   for     no     one;
A quiet crowd,
   like feather-down,
                               Down,
                  Down,
They become one smooth coverlet
For the shivering winter world
Shhhhhhh

Far and awa fae the light making shadows.
Sight to behold in the afternoon snow.
Gallant destruction in wall tumbled ivy.
Tight as the hack of the hobbling crow.

Parson and gardener, nipped on their fingers.
Wrapping up, fenced, for the winter to come.
Cauld is the cloak on the journey to pasture.
Tilling the field and the prayer book hum.

Frost blaws to thaw as the sun yawns, persistent.
Batter the drum as the hail thumps in time.
Speed through the wind as it gnaws faces, twisted.
Slush churns to wet as the welcome bells chime.

Winter yir song, as it puffs into whisper.
Herald the twilight for new days to speak.
Underfoot crack as your hold starts to weaken.
Buttercup sun tips her hat to the bleak.

Humble
Snowflake
Lonely little
Snowflake
Melting in my hand
A moment
So sate
So sweet
You remember
Nowt
Of dying
To simply be

How I envy thee

Nothing beats a snow day.
Hot chocolate,
Snow ball fights.
The perfect warm sweater,
And
Christmas lights.

-The best snow day of 2019.

i couldn’t care less
that my feet are wet

my jeans with the holes
keep my knees cold

i don’t really mind
my fingers like ice

i’ll still take the long way home
good things happen when it snows
today is the second snow of the season! it has barely begun to stick, but the flurries were enough to excite me. this poem is a bit more traditional that i usually write, but snow brings out the simplicity in me.

The snow is falling
Covering the earth in white
Silence hangs above

cold air is burning my face but the feeling is muffled, far away.
i look at you, stoic menace.
you are a block of ice and i am a flurry of snowflakes, raging, cold, soft.
you ask me what the heart speaks.
i do not know how to tell you what emotion is, just like i do not know how to explain to you what i am.

(things far too familiar are seldom easy to translate into a language someone might understand, a language that is not your own, a language you've forgotten the taste of)

mountains on my shoulders feel lighter than they should, and you take lightness to mean of less matter.
perhaps you think these mountains have a hollow center, are made of feathers.
you and i are two different forms of water.
i have known ice, and you have known snow, years before today.
i have known stagnance, you have known change, you took the word like an icicle to your chest, falling too far into your cave.
pull me out, you say, and i am frost lining your windowsill.
leave me be, you say, and you are a dull fog, whispering to glass.
through the glass, we interact.
you are trapped.
i want to see you cry for hours and never stop until you run out of what's made you so cold.

I know why god made waterfalls
Or why birds fly

When you cast thy mind to the call
your feet will lift to the sky

And if by gone ages be deaf
And no great minds be left

Then cast my mind astray
Like an owl lost in the light of day

God poured a waterfall in my heart
Once my soul was an arrow but now 'tis a dart

Flying flying towards i know not what
But i think they call this art

I am listening and it is getting louder
Nature is giving birth we must surround her

The future is an angel in your mind
With love and compassion we must ground her

So I trek with compass and staff
Because they **** with  mind
And suffocate with number and graph

I whistle upon the dixies
As I sneak around with pixies

In the end of it all
It seems a bit chaff
Inward thinking to myself, I laugh
