I looked out the window when you began to leave
Kicked you out through my own front door
I noticed a tree and its turning red leaves
Guess I'd never noticed that before

That same day, I walked down to the river
A breeze came, cold and long
My body shook as I began to shiver
But the river kept moving along

I watched the sunset from a rocky shore
And although I'd never been there before
When the waves crashed and hit me with sea foam
I finally felt, for once, at home

Seasons never seemed to flow
Until I made you go
Every day was the same, you see
Until I forced you to leave me

I noticed how the clouds danced even lighter
How rain made the morning dew even wetter
How the rainbow shined even brighter
Maybe things will finally start to get better
Now that's what I can finally see
Finally free since you left me
this is my 119th poem, written on 8/10/24

In the hum drum and the toil
In the itch of daily life
As we each till our own soil
Carefully avoiding each others' strife
We go to and fro enjoying
The comfort of monotony
And take pride in our employing
The right of autonomy

We take little heed of shadows
And the artwork they display
Or the fluffiness of clouds
As they drift along their way
We forget to thank our knees
As we bend to take a seat
Or admire the flowing streams
In the hardwood beneath our feet

It takes substantial effort
To see the inches in the miles
But there's something striking in them
That I think you'll find worthwhile
Take notice of the details
Don't be blind to little things
When life feels all too big
Just practice noticing
I've found this makes my life feel much less chaotic. Noticing details helps ground me, make me more thankful, and helps me realize the insignificance of most of my problems. Haha.

I hope that deer in the road
In the afterlife has fun
I hope those moths by the light
Get an eternity of sun

I hope that lonely old lady
Gets to reunite with her lover
I hope that man who had to sit in the rain
Will always, above his head, have a cover

I hope the rainbow everyone admires when they see
I hope its colors never fade
I hope the dolls the girls wanted
I hope they never stop being made

I hope the ocean waves they splashed in
I hope they never stop being rode
I hope the stories that inspire others
I hope they never stop being told

And I hope when I take my final breath
I get to see that beautiful sky one last time
And I hope this dream is never taken away
Even though it was never mine
this is my 21st poem, created on 8/18/23.

Trees
With outstretched limbs
like arms reaching
to the sky in gratitude
giving praise for the day
Teach me too
to be grateful like you
Teach me to soak up the sun
and to be green and alive
with the memory of thankfulness
