On a sudden sobbing night
in west african harmattan,
Light wasn't smiling
in the thickness of naked darkness
but for a dying flame
sitting on a frail candle stick.
In the deep sea of life,
tiniest things spark hope
When beyond we see.

Far from home
Our minds thus wander
To a land
Vast beyond the ocean
Where the whites lives yonder
With minds stone cold
We shun our homemade products
The fats of our toil
We reserve for aliens
Who in their world
Are not worthy
Of a strike of an applaud
Nor a job to be poor

Our children scavenge for crumbs
In the hands of strangers
In their home land.
Our leaders with alluring deceit
Conjure soothing malicious stories
To educate us on the benefits
Of this benevolent strangers

Our youths for ignorance
Scramble to be noticed
By this fair coated aliens
Who's helping outstretched claws
Would save us from the ignorance
Of our daring impulsiveness.

No-one will ease her of the heaviness
The heaviness of her yielding back
Nor till beneath her scorching smiles
But would rather
Dance to the sophisticated tune
Of the aliens piano
Neglecting the message
Of her talking drum.

**! mother Africa
How she weeps so
Beckoning on her children
To come back home
To the hospitable warmth
Of her essence.
Where we love
One another without fear
Nor look down
At our resourcefulness.

Reflecting.....

As the pace of life slows
To protect my health
I sit here reflecting
For I can’t do much else

The global situation
On all our minds
Surreal as it is
The Earth is doing fine

I sit here listening
To the sounds of Soweto
Wondering if there’s anyone else
Like me.... locked down in Soweto

Luck it may have been
I consider myself lucky still
I wouldn’t want to be stuck anywhere else
What a story I now have to tell

There is hardship and struggle
Even for us every day
Yet there is also love... beauty...
Something so special to be here to “stay”

I’m no tourist
But still I feel unique
I wonder... is there anyone else?
Anyone else like me?

I feel I belong
I always have
But now this feelings deeper
I forget I’m not local infact!

It’s only when I sit here
And think, everything still
That I remember I’m different
Yet I’m treated like a local

I have become a Sowetan
And it didn’t start this year
It’s been happening slowly
The township adopted me, year after year

People are varied
Some are illegal
Yet, as written in the constitution
This country belongs to all

I love South Africa
But not all of it’s the same
It’s here in Soweto
Here - I got a new name

I don’t feel any different
To others around me
I have become one of them
But still wonder..... is there anyone else like me?

Getting stuck here was a blessing
How things fall into place!
Although no one anticipated COVID
Being in Soweto puts a smile on my face

I feel it’s almost sacred
To find myself here
During this global pandemic
I’ve been “protected “ it’s clear

I’m here for a reason
That has been proven to me
And whatever the reason
... it was just meant to be

I “belong “ here in Soweto
There IS no one like me
I am now a Sowetan
...just as it was “meant to be”

Ngiyabonga beautiful people **
Forgive me I’m new **
Africa! Africa!
The heart never leaves you – Africa! Africa!
Africa – the heartbeat
Africa – the song of doves
Africa – the roar of lions

Vast plains and raging rivers – Africa! Africa!
The heart never leaves you.
The place of my heart rather than my birthplace which is Canada

Oh beloved country
Why do I cry for you
I have been told this is not my home
But how can this be
When I was born on your very soil
Country of division
The cry of the wild
Can we not sing one song
Sing in unison
Like a dry, barren and cracked piece of earth
We long for rain
Hungry for peace
And a reign without prejudice
Where all men are equal
And we **** no more
The ground has seeped up all the spilt blood
It has kept record of every innocent life lost
Until one day it will offer up the dead
And every sword shall be held accountable

To and fro to and fro
Faster and faster
Until the world whirls by
Goes the boy on a swing
If he would only learn to take it slow
Maybe then his trousers
Would learn to fit
And the world
Would in his head cease to meet
Maybe we Africans should
Check ourselves and not blame it all
On racism
Don't hate me for saying this ok
Just felt we should know!

The future is bright,
For Africa has light.
To light the future.
The continent of the future,
Recovers from the colonial plight
And is bound to take a flight
To the green pasture
Of economic rapture,
With lights all night.
And seasons of delight.
The continent of the future
Holds the key to the future
Vision of Africa

words can stand empty like shrines of gods forgotten
and cave rooms inhabited by nothing
but stones and decay
people die
and fade as flowers do in anticipation
and then winter comes
things fall to the same dust
from which we were made and shall return
so to you who go before us; unafraid
I wish love was enough
to bring back the soul and make it marry body again
so that two can become one
and breathe life into you again
to make the world and this vacuum created
whole again
I love you even beyond death
and life itself
sway and sail away into the light
where you shall be clothed with warmth the world knows nothing about
- nothing left to say

This ring,
He gave it to me, you know.
It came as a surprise,
On a day so right,
On a morning so white,
With Clouds so blue,
Just at the right time.
I, a flower, opening up its petals,
To the golden morning sun.
There it was,
There, in its greatness,
A delicately cut metal,
With a beautifully designed pink symmetrical stone,
A literal piece of art, oozing radiation.
It’s luminosity never seizes,
To synthesize my flowery heart.
Let me hold on to you,
Dear Source of light,
For you are,
A constant reminder of the moment, I said
“YES, I WILL FOREVER BE YOURS” to infinity,
As the Heavens and Nature rallied around You and Me.
Around Us, to witness, our two-become-one.
