Do not worry about our march to freedom,
with two steps forward and one step back,
do not worry about the pace that we lack.
Do not be disappointed by the hurdles we face,
as we jump one, another’s put in place.
For we will get there come what may.

Do not be angry about the words that are said,
as we dispel one lie, another is brought,
do not be angry about the myths that are taught.
Do not be daunted by the struggles that lie ahead,
as one fire is dowsed, another is fed.
For we will get there I’m sure some day.

Do not be disheartened by the mountain to climb,
as we climb higher and turn the tide,
do not be disheartened if we slip and slide.
Do not be weary of the journey still to go,
As we walk fast, they walk slow.
For we will get there come what may.

One Summer’s Afternoon
Steven Gosling Mar 2018
I lay back one summer’s afternoon,
and gazed up at the sky,
in a sunny meadow all flower strewn,
and watched the clouds go by.

I pondered life and other things,
a chance to contemplate,
growing old and all it brings,
and one’s impending fate.

What better way to clear your mind,
and keep your woes at bay,
and ponder on the things you find,
and while away the day.

Think Of Me And Smile
Steven Gosling Mar 2018
Now I am gone; think of me and smile.
Think of all the good times we had;
how I made you laugh;
what fun we had;
and what love we shared.
You may cry at my funeral, but let it be brief.
For every time you think of me;
think of me and smile.
My sister recently died. I wrote this for the funeral service

If I Met Myself One Day
Steven Gosling Mar 2017
If I met myself one day.
Would I like the one I find?
Or would I talk politely,
with retreat most in my mind.

If I had to work with someone.
Would it be someone like me?
Or would I say no thanks,
as a tried to get me free.

If I was my own best friend.
Would I trust me with my thoughts?
And tell me all my secrets,
without  fear of getting caught.

If there was one person in the world,
to whom I’d never say goodbye,
and walk away and never see.
Would it be someone like I?

When you look into the mirror.
is it really ever true,
that you see the same old person,
as when other’s look at you.

There is a strength within us that will not bend,
though men may slur and take our rights away,
fight out against the wrong dear friend.

Our liberties they take and rend,
they thought our will would brake but nay,
there is a strength within us that will not bend.

Brace against the bile they send,
and keep their insidious claws at bay,
fight out against the wrong dear friend.

Brave men would choose not to defend,
what we hold out for ‘till end of day,
there is a strength within us that will not bend.

Parasites and cronies steal and spend,
while innocents all fall as prey,
fight out against the wrong dear friend.

When light burns pale unto it’s dying end,
we shall stand against the dark and say:
There is a strength within us that will not bend,
fight out against the wrong dear friend.

The Sweetest Sound
Steven Gosling Jul 2015
The sweetest sound that touch the ear,
can lift the soul and calm your fear.
A soft guitar or soulful scale,
the lilting song of nightingales.

A sad love song or baby’s cry,
can bring you joy or tear the eye.
The beat of drum, a shriek of glee,
or grand and stirring symphony.

But the sweetest sound that I can hear,
the one that sounds most true,
is when I say I love you,
and you say I love you too.

Nothing In Particular
Steven Gosling Jul 2015
Life’s an awful rat race,
and it’s getting trickier and trickier,
so forget the woes you can’t face,
and do nothing in particular.

When life starts getting real tough,
relax from the perpendicular,
lay back and kick your shoes off,
and do nothing in particular.

Dreams
Steven Gosling May 2015
I walked on planets far away,
on Jupiter and Mars.
I danced with fairies out to play,
and soared above the stars.

I wrestled giant polar bears,
and monsters from the deep.
I rode the fastest racing mares,
and leapt the greatest leap.

I travelled to kingdoms long ago,
and fought with knights of old,
I sailed the seas both to and fro,
and watched the gods unfold.

I held the entire universe,
in the palm of just one hand,
and watched the sands of time traverse,
and run right out of sand.

These and other marvels,
are but speckles in the sky,
to a ones imagination,
if we only stopped to try.
