Workers Prayer
showyoulove Jul 2014
Lord, guide my hands to do your will. Fill my mind with your wisdom, my soul with your perfect peace, and my heart with your eternal love. Let my life and all that I do be an offering: pleasing to you and a blessing unto others. Send your Holy Spirit upon me to fill me and to seep into every fiber of my being. Help me to open myself more fully so that I might be able to listen and respond. Help me to surrender my will and my control so I can more readily serve you and my fellow man.

Though Many: One
showyoulove May 2014
Two different churches, two denominations
Two separate cities, a real conglomeration
Coming together to help those in need
First as strangers replaced by fast friends indeed
And we, though many, begin to be one

Throughout work and during play
Dew in morn, crew time at end of day
Working side by side, laughing, crying, sharing,
Praying, growing, changing, and above all: caring
And we, though many, are becoming one

Sharing a meal, the churches; they two
A common bond is shared between me and you
New friends are made as time goes along
Doubting no longer; happy you were wrong
And we, though many, are nearly one

A family we are now: close knit and firm
Through our experiences, much we have learned
A power there is, far great than any;
That makes beautiful the one with the many
And we, who were many, are now as ONE!

Growing Together
showyoulove May 2014
To new friends and family made this week:
Warm Fuzzies, crew time, RECORD HEAT!!
Time spent together: laughter, sweat, and tears,
A relationship to grow in future years.
Songs, prayer and fellowship abound,
Hugs, smiles, and joy all around!
The work completed a testament to:
The fact that, with God, all things we can do.
We seek you Lord; hide not from us your face,
And help us Lord to persevere as we each must run the race.
You have blessed us with many gifts indeed
Remind us You are there, in our every need.
Thank you for keeping us safe from harm
And in Your loving embrace please keep us warm!

We love You, thank You, and praise You Jesus Christ.
AMEN!

Prayer of a Sinner
showyoulove May 2014
Forgive me, I have done wrong against you and myself
I have not done anything to further my spiritual health
You suffered and died so I could go free
And how do I repay you? By sinning you see!
I am a fool for having done such a thing
And rather than praise it is dishonor I bring
I realize you have probably forgiven this sinner
Help me to forgive myself in humble surrender
By grace, mercy and love I have been saved
By your mighty hand lead me to walk the way you have paved
Help me turn my heart to you
I want to serve and live pure and true
I will never be perfect this much I know
But with your help in your love I can grow
May I remember in my tomorrow's and todays
That you Oh Lord are just a breath away
Give me the strength needed to turn from satan's power
Guide me through my darkest hour
And if I forget send someone to help redirect
Lest I stumble fall or lose my way please set me on the path correct
I love you and thank you and help me to follow
Your ways and your footsteps and not be skin shallow
AMEN

Hail Mary (And Alternate)
showyoulove May 2014
Hail Mary
Full of Grace
The Lord is with You
Blessed are you among women
And Blessed is the fruit of your womb:
Jesus.
Holy Mary
Mother Of God
Pray for us Sinners
Now,
And at the hour,
Of our death.
AMEN.

Greetings Mary! You are filled by God's grace and his grace covers and surrounds you. You are hand selected by God to carry out his plan; blessed are you among all women! By the Holy Spirit you shall conceive while still a ******. Blessed is the fruit of your womb a son whom you shall name Jesus Emmanuel meaning God With Us.
Mary, mother of God made flesh, you are pure and holy in heart, spirit, and flesh. We pray to you now, to intercede for all of us sinners to your son today, every day of our lives and at the hour of our death. We ask this with humble hearts and we know you hear and intercede for us who seek your help. Thank you. Help our lives and our answers be a "yes" to God that all things may be done unto us according to your son's will. We ask this and all things in your confidence,
AMEN!

Reflections on Amazing Grace
showyoulove May 2014
Amazing Grace: your gift for all. So amazing your grace that you would die for us sinners on a cross in shame and agony though sinless yourself.

How Sweet the Sound: to hear "your sins are absolved"

That Saved a Wretch Like Me: Compared to your perfection and glory we are truly wretched. All blackened by sin, but because of your death on a cross not by water or blood, but by water and blood we are saved and washed clean and white. The only chance we have of getting into heaven is by your gift of Amazing Grace.

I Once Was Lost: like a sheep who strays from the flock and wanders off

But Now Am Found: I am safe and sound in your arms once again. You rescue me from danger and bring me back safe and sound.

Was Blind: because of sin and my faults, wrapped up in a blanket of hurting and lies.

But Now I See: the magnitude of this gift you give and because of your death, the pure spotless lamb, and the cleansing blood you shed for me and for many that sins might be forgiven.

'Twas Grace That Taught My Heart To Fear: fear you in a deep respect for your power, fear of not having you always there and fear of satan and the cost of sin.

And Grace My Fears Relieved: I used to fear what would happen if I sinned and I still fear as I should always, but I take comfort in the knowledge that when I sincerely repent, do my best to sin no more, and to avoid the things that lead me to sin I will be forgiven.

How Precious Did That Grace Appear: It is by Grace and Grace alone that we are saved and indeed how precious, how special Grace was as it appeared to me

The Hour I First Believed: The hour I came to believe in you Jesus my Savior who shed your blood, died and rose again that I might live!

Discerning the Spirit
showyoulove May 2014
Be still, my soul, and open
For, in the silence, words are spoken
Soft and sometimes a whisper still
If we listen we just might hear God's will.

The spirit is a funny thing: a gentle quiet breeze
And powerful enough to bring me to my knees.
So when the spirit is moving, knocking at my heart
I am called to respond and to do my part.

It prompts, and it nudges, it calls me out when I've done wrong
And no matter where I go it always comes along.
It guides me, and teaches how to live love and act,
And it helps me to know what is lie and what is fact.

There are so many voices, my attention they all seek
I try to hear the spirit but it seems so small and weak.
How do I tell that it's the spirit that I should obey?
How can I be sure that it's not mine, but God's will and way?

Help me Lord to be open that in doing so I might find
A heart that beats for You alone, that I may respond in kind!

Found: The Missing Part
showyoulove Feb 2014
You mean more to me than words can express,
Your eyes and your smile light up my world.
Your laughter makes my heart young and free,
Nothing will do to show how much you mean to me!
I'd give up the world to be a part of yours,
I'd stop the world to melt with you.

You complete me, my other self:
What I lack, you can provide.
You fill me up; you make me whole inside.
You understand what I think and how I feel.
I feel more comfortable and at ease when you are close,
We compliment and balance each other.
I treat you with love and care and great respect
For, as you are a part of me, what I do to you I also do to myself.
You are an answer to prayer, a blessing divine:
For when I was created, I swear God must have had you in mind!

I want to know You a little more,
Love you a little deeper than before.

I want to see your face
Shining in every place.

Lord you have my heart and you have my soul,
Now I'm askin' you to take all control.

Where would I be, what would I do,
Who would I be if I didn't have you?

Nailed to a tree you bore my sin in death;
You loved me right through Your very last breath

You hold me and love me and call me your child,
You cleanse me, forgive me when I am defiled.

Once again I stand before you, amazed.
By the depths of your heart, Your mercy and grace.

Legacy
showyoulove Feb 2014
Is the world a little better now than when I first came in?
What will people say about me when I leave this place behind?
Will they say I was cool or funny or had a keen mind?

How will the people I know remember me when I'm gone?
How long will they mourn? Will they keep my memory strong?

I want to leave a lasting mark; what will be my legacy?
Did I live my life with love and care?
Did I make peace where there was war,
Cultivate love and forgiveness where there is hate?

When people looked at me, could they see Your face?
Someone radically transformed by Your love, compassion, mercy, and grace.

Was I a voice for the mute,
A light shining brightly for you?
Was I hope for the hopeless, love for the loveless,
A light that the lost find their way?

When this life is over and it's time at long last to come home,
When You stand before me in all of Your glory
What will I hear you say?

We Are

We are the hope of a new generation,
We are the bridge connecting the nations.
We are the life in a time of great need,
We are the farmers to plant and nurture the seed.

We are a light for those stuck in darkness,
We are the ones who will lead the way.
We are the warriors who stand up and fight!
We are the ones who kneel down and pray.

We are the people in faith united,
We are the ones whom you have guided.
We are the message of love and peace
In a world muddied by hate and by war.

We are the spark that will see this world ablaze!
We wish to walk with you in your ways.
We are the youth: finding ourselves and growing in faith,
We are the ones who can make this a better place.

We are the children of Jesus The Lord,
We will boldly take up our shield and our sword!
We are the ones who will forever change the earth,
Hand crafted with love before our birth.

We are the promise of a new faith revival,
We are the change and it starts with us!

Now is the time! Together we stand,
Heart to heart and hand in hand!
We are the future: right here and now,
We are the revolution: lets show everyone how!

Song of the Universe
showyoulove Jan 2014
I look through my window at the stars as they shine
Showing their love to the creator divine.
I smell the flowers and breeze the sweetness drifting
Upward and onward to Heaven lifting.
I feel the grass beneath my feet, between my toes
I laugh and smile and all time seems to slow.
The birds sing their joyful songs
And the rocks and plants seem to sing along.
The crickets, frogs, and the night play out a chorus
How beautiful this symphony prepared for us!
All life, all the earth seems to have a voice
They sing praise to you and I make it my choice.
The most grand orchestra this world has and ever will see
How amazing this gift that you give to me!
You write your name on my heart and put a song in my soul
Gives a spring to my step like a young little foal.
My spirit soars on wings with the creatures of the air
Let me always feel with every bone in my body that you are always there!

Desperate and Broken

Desperate and broken, you came to me in my time of great need
Dry and dead, you were like water to seed
You hung and bled and died to set the captives free
But being good is one thing I know I'll never be.

In union with the angels who sing your praise
My head I will bow and my hands I will raise
Covered by mercy and love, forgiveness and grace
I stand in wonder and awe, completely amazed

The path to Heaven is very narrow and uphill
May it be done to me according to Your Will.
The depths of your heart so much greater still
The universe could not hope to fill

Your love for us is greater far
Than the sands on the earth and every star.
Artist composer and author you are
Loving us still: all covered with scar

As tears fill my eyes I weep bitterly
How could one as perfect as you love a mess like me
Only a wonderful, and beautiful mess you see

Before you I come: humble and broken
You know everything before one word has been spoken

Beneath lust greed and pride
You go deep down inside
Down through the muck, you make the beautiful come alive

"Brighter than any diamond or the sun you shine
Because, my precious treasure, I love you and you are MINE!

The sky is bright and all seems right
And God is smiling on his child today! :)

A Real Strong Woman

She's smiling this morning like everything is alright

You'd never know by looking she was crying all last night

She puts on a mask; a well made disguise

But if you look hard enough you'll see the tears behind her eyes

A stubborn fool its true, but she's tougher 'n nails

She'll keep fighting when everyone else would fail

She's a heart of only the purest of gold

A hug that would melt a heart grown so cold

Her touch is as tender as a lover's embrace

Around her 's a smile on everyone's face

She has a love far greater than the oceans and seas

An uncanny ability to just put me at ease

She's a protection that's fiercer than a mother for her child

She's strong and she's tough still she's gentle and mild

She's smiling this morning like everything is alright

You'd never know by looking she was crying all last night

She's a real strong woman and that's a fac'

Them real strong women bounce right back

Christmas Presence

Christmas Presence

The time of year is upon us once more
Filled with travel, shopping, stress
Running here, over there, buying this, giving gifts,
Ever more and ever longer Christmas lists!
Busier than bees in the summer, nuttier than squirrels in the fall
It's a wonder how we live at all!
We never bother to stop or pause or even slow down,
But what if we did? What if we dared to take a step back;
See beyond what we have to find what it is we lack.
If we go back to the beginning I think we might just find
Some Christmas presents of a slightly different kind.
A child was born a cold dark winter night,
Three rich wisemen brought expensive gifts and travelled many miles
A poor drummer boy played a song for the babe
But the greatest gift of all that day
Was the birth of baby Jesus
Sent to earth to give us great gifts:
The gifts of His mercy, forgiveness and grace,
The gifts of His love, wisdom, and compassion.
But the greatest gift of all was he gave us His LIFE! Died so we might live.
Every day He is with us, we are surrounded by His presence in our hearts and in our lives.
Each morning we wake up is a gift from God and every day and night He is with us.
We celebrate Christmas just one day a year, but Christmas is really all year!
I hope that we do not too quickly forget what is truly important and what Christmas really means.
Christmas isn't about the ribbons, the bows or tags,
It isn't about the packages, the boxes or bags!
It's together with family friends and loved ones to remember the gifts that they are;
Jesus gave us the gift of His PRESENCE, may we be PRESENT to Him and a GIFT to all both near and far!

By dying on the cross He erased our sins
By coming to life He makes new life begin
We see Him on the cross and it brings a tear to my eye
He could have chosen other things and yet… He CHOSE to die!

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out his arms He’s welcoming the price
With wide open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
With supporting arms He carries us

God gave us all a second chance
So out of love “Shall we dance?”
Though He died and we ask “What good can come of this?”
He saved all so rather than despair we bathe in bliss

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out his arms He’s welcoming the price
With wide open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
With supporting arms He carries us

When we fall down He picks us back up
He fills us with His love like an overflowing cup
Now I see with open eyes and heart
“You and I were never far apart”

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out His arms welcoming the price
With open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
In His hands He carries us

The Lord our God is a promise kept
And when He wiped us out He also wept
God sent His Only Son to die on a cross
And by rising on the third He showed satan who was boss!

CHORUS: There is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice
Holding out His arms welcoming the price
With open arms He says “I love you”
With a caring heart He says “I do”
With an open mind He welcomes us
In His hands He carries us

I look up at the cross on high
And ask my God the question “Why?”
He doesn’t answer me that I can hear
But nevertheless to me my God is dear

That is Beauty in the Ultimate Sacrifice!

Jesus as you hung with arms outstretched

Even as you were rejected time and time again

Somehow you loved us so much that you would give your life

Unconditional unsurpassed love would win

Sin couldn’t hold you, death had lost its power

Over and over you showed us love

Nailed on a cross between two thieves

Three days later you came back

Hell could not hold you; Heaven rejoiced

Everyone could not believe so easily

Carrying that cross to Calgary I can’t imagine

Ridiculed, beaten, ripped and torn

Our sins you took upon yourself

So that we might have new life; so that we might be:

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I didn’t know what I was looking for

Searching the Earth for to fill my need

Sloth and envy and pride, jealousy lust and greed

Money, popularity, status, possessions; the life I lead

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I didn’t find what I was looking for

Looking for love in all the wrong places

Never one to stay for long in any case

Living life at a breakneck pace

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I couldn’t find what I was looking for

Leaving me hungrier; wholly unsatisfied

Nothing helped. There wasn’t one thing I hadn’t tried

So elusive it was: true happiness and joy I was denied

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

But I wouldn’t find what I was looking for

The world had nothing left for me; I gave up hope

And at the bottom of a very steep and slippery *****

Nowhere left to run and ready to die.

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I never found what I was looking for…

Down to me came a rope. Taking that rope my life changed forever that day

The light in my dark, show me the right way

What happened I couldn’t really say.

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I might have found what I’ve been looking for

I still fall and lose my way. God knows I’m not perfect

It’s a long hard road, but God believes I’m worth it

And I know you have a plan for me. Still not sure where I fit

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I think I found what I’ve been looking for

Life giving water, sustaining bread, and solid ground

Love, joy, and peace. New life I see all around

What I’ve always been looking for, I’ve finally found

All my life I’ve been searching for something more

Something missing; an emptiness down in my core

And I (Finally) found what I’m looking for!**

Thank You Jesus!

Jesus, if I praised 10,000 years I could not praise you enough

If I knew every word; about you I could not say enough

If I could spend forever loving; it still would not be enough

Of your love for me; I am not worthy enough

And try I might I still sin so much. I’ll never be good enough

You tell me to go out and help change the world, and I don’t believe I’m enough

We praise you with happy hearts in word and deed and love

And that is praise enough

The songs we sing to you the Blessed King bring a smile to your face

And that is gift enough

To live our lives for you; to serve and do your will

That is love enough

You sent your son to die for me though I was unworthy

His death showing your grace was enough

Sinners we are and rotten; Jesus hung and bled and died

The price he paid in full was good enough

You believe in me. Made me with a special purpose and plan

And that is reason enough!

Would I Know You?
showyoulove Oct 2013
Would I know You if You sat across from me on the bus?

Would I know You if I bumped into you on the street?

Would I see Your face in that of a ragged homeless man?

Would I recognize You in the teen mother taking shelter from the rain?

Could I know You in the condemned prisoner’s eyes?

Could I see You when helping someone who dropped their groceries?

Or letting someone go before me in line?

Would someone see You if I did those things?

Would Your light shine through for others to see?

The reason the world does not know You

Is because it does not know love and You are love!

Would I know you in Your many forms?

Would I take action and help You?

If I was that way would someone take the time to care?

Would I be welcoming and would they be understanding?

Lord help me to truly understand and respond appropriately to the needs of others

And may all hearts be open and welcoming as we come closer

To each other and to You.

My Own Backyard
showyoulove Oct 2013
So many countries in the world today

Places and people neglected and needy

Forgotten, mocked, and cast out.

Needing love and care: bring Jesus to them

We want to help. We share in their pain and suffering

Singing songs to the God who saves, provides and protects

Sharing and working together as a new family is made

This is good! Experience the joy it brings

But look too and do not forget!

Those in our own communities

Neglected and needy

Forgotten, mocked, and cast out.

They too need love and care and bring Jesus to them.

What can I do? How can I help?

Help those in my own backyard?

Volunteer an hour or two at a food pantry,

Serve lunch and talk to the people at a soup kitchen.

Bringing love and care: and Jesus to them.

Write letters or make packages to send to soldiers,

Or spend a few hours talking and visiting at a home for the elderly.

Make baskets with socks, blankets, and a jacket

And spend a day in the city handing them out in the winter months.

Bringing love and care: bringing Jesus to them.

Open a door for someone, whose arms are full,

Make dinners or gifts for a family in need at your church:

Bringing love and care and bringing Jesus to them

And to those in my own backyard!

God Bless!

Here Today
showyoulove Oct 2013
Because of you I am here today

And I should thank you everyday

No way have I deserved your love and mercy

Why? You didn’t have to die for me; I sin every day

You willingly chose death and humiliation so that I could be free

You stared death in its face

Nothing, not even death’s vice grip could hold you down

You paid the ultimate price to show me love

Still I ask why. You could have let justice be served

But the power of your love overcame that

I don’t know if anything could make me do what you did for me

To die for another out of love or even to save

I don’t know what it is like to die for one much less all

I can’t imagine what the pain of the sin for one life is

Compile everybody’s sins during their life. How?

How could you do it? How could you go on knowing everything you did?

Thank You. Because of you I am here today…

What Friends Are For

If not for love and being there; what else?

We can always help you; but you need to help yourself.

We are there in the good times and the bad;

Laughing when you’re happy, crying with you when you’re sad.

We love you for who you really are; seeing only the good,

We do that just like everyone should.

Seeing past the faults, to the beauty inside;

We bring out the best in you, we find it; it can’t hide.

Happy are those who don’t have much;

But who are rich in love and such.

Friends create the bond that gets you through life;

We will always see you through especially in strife.

Have no fear; for you are never alone

We are always there; even if we aren’t shown.

Real friends and relationships are life’s naturally occurring super-glue

They help to mend and strengthen, to bind wounds, and aid you.

The road we walk in life is full of barriers, obstacles, and more,

You may trip and fall at times; but much better is in store.

My Christmas Wish (A Prayer)
showyoulove Oct 2013
Another year almost come and gone and

Christmas day is upon us once again.

Today’s Christmases full

Of gifts, hour long lines, last minute shopping

And Stress!

Life moving at a breakneck pace; never slowing,

People not sparing a small coin to put in the Salvation Army bucket.

I wonder if we would all make better presents

Than the ones we receive on Christmas-

With how wrapped up we are.

There are those (not to be forgotten) who do something kind

For someone else; Sometimes anonymously.

Though I feel that, through the years,

We have forgotten what Christmas really is.

Christmas isn’t about bows, ribbons, or tags

Nor is Christmas about packages, boxes, or bags.

What is it then? Go back about 2000 years or so to the very first Chrismas

A very cold, dark, winter night in a Bethlehem barn a young woman gave birth

To a son Jesus “Emmanuel” meaning (‘God With Us’)

On that night the witnesses to Jesus’ birth were

A few shepherds from nearby fields,

The animals in the barn, 3 kings (wisemen they be), and a poor drummer boy.

The kings brought gifts to pay homage and honor to the babe

The drummer boy had no gift to bring, but played a song for the child

All was bright, calm, peaceful that night

The warmth of love and light

Overpowering the cold, dark, winter of that Bethlehem night

What is it that I see?

When I look into your eyes

What is it that I feel?

When I catch you looking at me

Something I find vaguely familiar

Something straining at the edge of memory

Yet I can’t quite place where I know it

Feels like an old friend

At one time we were inseparable

But time and age has changed this

What is it that you have?

That I admire so much

A child-like energy,

A love and passion like no other,

Seeing life in the eyes of youth;

That indefatigable exuberance

Oh to be young and alive once more…

The world and its joys and sorrows

How much more vibrant and radiant the colors

Than the rainbow we see sometimes

Colors of youth, life yet to live

What is it that I hear?

Carried by the winds and whispered in my ear

What is it that I taste?

Kissed by the summer sun and caressed by the gentle breeze

Lulled to sleep in the sweet liqueur of your loving embrace

The world once, a lovely place

Full of love and a lust for life

All that remains; but a fragile memory

And sadness while deep, my heart growing dark

A light dimly glows in the depths of my mind.

There you are still; my memory of you

And as I look at the world I am reminded:

The sun is your love warming icy heart

Forever faithful, you watch from on high

Your face is the face of a little child

Young and bright so full of life, of love

Your love is the mother singing her baby to sleep

Even the seasons talk of life.

Winter comes and all seems dead

Cold and empty, barren, lonely

It lasts so long all hope seems lost

When winter finally ends...

Mustering a last hurrah before it has to relinquish

Its death grip on the world and give way to---

The birth of spring!

The spring of hope, the spring of life,

Joy and hope rising up with the entire world

As is the way with many sad times in life

So when the world is cold and dark

I remember that spring is going to come

And when I look at all life around me

I see parts of you in everything and everyone.

You are a special person in many, many ways
Loving and patient for all of your days
Your smile means everything (though you may never talk)
And your heart soars on the wind (though you may never walk)
You might not express yourself like I can
Or explain what you mean like I can
But I learn from you.
“Oh yes, I do”
I learn how to Love
Like the One From Above
I learn how to Care
Helping others and ourselves through the talents that we share
You are the feared, the looked down upon
But we are the ones who are the real cons
For everything is here for a reason
The world is so cruel and cold it’s like its freezin
We need to warm it up start a fire
No time to sleep, we can’t retire
Light it with love, compassion is our kindling
Keep it in our hearts till to all the world we bring
This revolution starts with two
It starts with me and it starts with you!

Dream your dreams and live your life make every moment count

Go on now and be

The person you are. Forever loved by your father and me

Now is the time for our little one to leave the nest

Spread your wings and fly

We are always with you; your mother and I.

Wherever you may run, however far you may go

The light is on the door is open when you come home.

Choose your goals, go into the world

Be all you can and bloom like the flower unfurled

But when you are tired and weary and things get rough

When storm clouds cast darkness on your sky and sun turns to rain

If laughter turns to sadness and joy gives way to pain

Know that here at home you can have peace and rest

We always love you. Always have and always will and we are truly blessed

Every day we think of you, bow our heads abe pray at night

That you be blessed and safe and ever in the Lord's sight!

Lord I stumble; I fall and lose my way

Lord like sheep I tend to wander astray

Lost in the darkness; alone and afraid

I said “I am sorry” “Help me” I prayed

In the vast silence you heard my desperate plea

And there in an instant you were there with me

You offered your hand and helped me stand

You looked at me and softly smiled. Why I don’t understand

“Child, I love you always. I’m here by your side for all days

Wherever you go whatever you do I will always love you”

I know I make mistakes and do the things that are wrong

Walking slippery slopes and blinded all along

Lost in the darkness; alone and afraid

I said “I am sorry” “Help me” I prayed

In the vast silence you heard my desperate plea

And there in an instant you were there with me

You offered your hand and helped me stand

You looked at me and softly smiled. Why I don’t understand

“Child, I love you always. I’m here by your side for all days

Wherever you go whatever you do I will always love you”

Guiding me along the road to tread the path you trod

Send your angels to keep me; be my stronghold oh God

Lost in the darkness; alone and afraid

I said “I am sorry” “Help me” I prayed

In the vast silence you heard my desperate plea

And there in an instant you were there with me

You offered your hand and helped me stand

You looked at me and softly smiled. Why I don’t understand

“Child, I love you always. I’m here by your side for all days

Wherever you go whatever you do I will always love you”

Lord be the lamp for my feet and the light on my path

Anoint my head with oil and guide me with your staff

Lost in the darkness; alone and afraid

I said “I am sorry” “Help me” I prayed

In the vast silence you heard my desperate plea

And there in an instant you were there with me

You offered your hand and helped me stand

You looked at me and softly smiled. Why I don’t understand

Wherever you go whatever you do I always will and always have loved you”

A hug, a smile, or a simple “hello”

Is all it takes to change someone’s life you know?

Who knows if they were having a terrible day?

And you have given hope in the midst of bleak and gray.

Volunteering can be such a great gift

For both parties involved get a free effective face-lift! (smile)

A humbling experience all-in-all

To see that through struggles they keep standing tall;

And as much as we give, we learn and get so much more

Giving hope, sharing compassion, showing love and helping people soar.

Volunteering helps out those who are in need

By volunteering you give people hope, the tools to succeed.

To see someone suffering, it breaks my heart in two

And tired though when work is done, my strength it does renew.

I see at times the progress of those I call my own

Sometimes small others great; to see how they have grown!

To make a difference in the lives of people everywhere

Every kind act whether great or small shows the world that you care

Go ahead! Dare! To give a hand, or lend an ear,

A shoulder to lean on; have no fear!

If we care for one another how do we express?

By an Act of Random Kindness, but I digress.

Whatever good you do, do it with love and joy in your heart…

For like “Evan Almighty” we are each called to build an A.R.K.

Smile and do something kind for one person today

The end of the day is drawing near;

The winter of my life: so cold, white, and barren.

The night is constantly pressing onward,

Dark is folding me in its wings.

Calling, softly insisting, inviting.

The tug (like that of the moon on the sea) it lulls.

Moving slowly towards it...

Closer....

I pause.

A small light has made itself known

What is this? What will happen? I wait.

Slowly starting to see something: pictures- moving like a movie?

Yes, I remember! These are my memories: what little is left of my world.

There are so many pictures: some good and bad, happy or sad,

Everything in between.

Spring:

Childhood days of fun and play, sports with dad in the yard,

Ice cream days with Grandpa,

And Grandma’s stories.

Tuck-ins, and good night kisses, momma cooking (YUM!)

And teenage years- full of rebellion and independence:

Searching high, low, everywhere. For identity and who I am.

Summer:

The joy! The burning passion! Of life and love in their prime.

So many changes of both bad and good: girls, loves, and many heart breaks.

Marriages.

Children.

(What a Roller-Coaster!)

Playing cards and drinking with “The Guys”

So busy being a good husband and (hopefully) a great dad.

Playing sports in the yard with my kids

Like my father did with me when I was young.

Fall:

The kids have gone off to college now...

Starting lives of their own.

Been to many a marriage and too many funerals

Of friends.

And people whose lives were cut short.

(they died so young….)

Relaxing at home and traveling too.

The kids now come to visit a few times a year.

Slowing down...

Coming         to                        r  e  s  t…. *

(ooooh: the midday nap in the worn comfy chair on the porch)

So nice and soft- sink in and slip away *(ahhh…)

Winter:

To end where we began:

Grandpa.

Treating grandkids to movies, ice cream (like my grandpa did with me).

Grandma’s passed away, a cane, still at home trying to stay sharp.

Trying

(and failing....)

Things blur and blend as the body falls apart- eyes, ears, legs, mind (a few).

Darkness of age clouds my being. Outlook is bleak and things are looking grim...

Never Surrender! And so-

I fight!

(or try)

But it’s no use...

So warm...

inviting....

I accept the end and what will very soon be.

The pictures stop. No more light. I step.

Still closer now

Feeling the pull. The pulse: as if the dark is alive! I step.

Standing at the edge of darkness. 1 breath and I step.

I am here. I smile: it is all over! Peace at last.

What Have Ye?
showyoulove Oct 2013
"Oh young man, pray what have ye seen?"

"Well sir, I have seen much.
I’ve seen death and life, witnessed trials and strife,
I’ve seen smiles and tears, laughter and faces full of fear,
Some coming some going. Of those dear to me."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye heard?"

"Well sir, I have heard much.
I’ve heard people crying from joy and pain, and those not treated the same,
I’ve heard songs of praise and despair, a million voices everywhere,
And those silent voices calling. That need to be heard."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye touched?"

"Well sir, I have touched so much.
I’ve touched hearts, and changed lives in part,
I’ve felt so many emotions, and wrote about them when I felt the notion,
A pen to paper. And how it just flows."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye smelled?"

"Well sir, there are many things to smell.
I’ve smelled the clean of a spring shower, smelled greed and corrupting power,
I’ve inhaled the smell of the breeze, flowers and things like these,
And memory of mother’s meals. Those childhood days."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye tasted?"

"Well sir, there is much I have tasted.
I’ve tasted bitterness of defeat and death, my wrongs and the regret,
I’ve tasted sweet spring, and the joy of summer. Sing!
The flavors of life. And love among them."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye known?"

"Well sir, I have known some.
I’ve known loss, and love, and family that fits like a glove,
I’ve known hopelessness and grief, forgiveness and belief,
And nobody is perfect. We all have faults."

"Oh young man, pray what have ye learned?"

"Well sir, I continue to learn.
I’ve learned that disaster isn’t tragic, and miracles aren’t magic,
I can smile with my heart and eyes, yet still not learned if I’m a fool or wise,
Success never comes easy. It’s never without trial."

"And oh young man, pray what have ye realized?"

"Well sir, I am constantly in the middle of realizing something else.
That there is one thing that doesn’t change: life is always different it never stays the same,
I realize now that life is so much more and waiting just outside our own front door,
Seek first to love and understand. Then to be loved and understood."

"And oh young man, I have learned too...

As you learn from me, so I from you.

Learn from the world and experience all that you can.

Open your senses and take in all that you can!

For life is a journey, a path, and a road...

Now: do what you can and teach what you have been showed!"

She stands tall and proud in all her femininity,
A stark contrast to the maleness that surrounds her:

They, with swords drawn; the tips glistening...
Poised and ready to strike at any moment.

They, like starved wolves; silently stalking their prey...
Teeth bared straining at restraints, what holds them back?

They, like sharks; that smell blood and fear...
Circling ever closer until the prey gets tired and weak.

They, like snakes and spiders; waiting ever so patiently...
So quietly lurking in the shadows for just the right moment.

Then… They STRIKE!

They are ravenous, ruthless, and all consuming fire!
Eventually, the beasts have had their fill. They leave for now.

They leave nothing behind in their wake...
Except for maybe a memory and a promise.

And she, once tall and proud, is now hunched over and disgraced.
She, like the desert; is now baron and devoid of life and feeling.

Crying out in the black, unforgiving night
No one hears her and no help comes.

No one who understands...

No one to keep her company...

No one except her pain, her haunted memories, and her broken dreams.

Darkness finds you and it binds you

Pins you firmly down upon the ground

Black is calling and you’re falling

Your cries are hopeless and you are ropeless

Sorrow beckons and hurts like weapons

You try to run, they laugh for fun

Misery takes you and it breaks you

Your life is in shambles, you’re full of brambles

Despair will come and make you no one

Beaten and ******, ripped up and muddy

Nowhere to go, you scream and you know

You’re stuck in a ditch, life’s a *****

In all your bleakness, hate knows your weakness

Come, give in, darkness will win

Rage soon rears its face, you will put others in their place

Darkness will pray and all this will stay

Until your death, your very last breath

They love you like mothers, they caress you like lovers

They are silently killing, your blood they are spilling

No place to hide, should you have died?

You are slowly dying and you still aren’t crying

Just know how much you are loved here on earth and above.

Shepherd (Psalm 23)

The Lord is my Shepherd… I need nothing more
He is my rock, my guide, my friend whom I adore
He binds the wounded and heals the sick
He is there for his sheep through thin and thick

The Lord is my Shepherd… I need not fear
To You Lord all the flock is very dear
No one more important all loved just the same
He knows all His sheep by name

The Lord is my Shepherd… In whom I find rest
He calls us all to our own spiritual quest
His love is forever, unconditional, and unending
I fall down in awe before The King

The Lord is my Shepherd… He knows his own
The sheep know His voice and tone
The Lord makes sure each one is safe and sound
He will bring them back to safe lush ground

The Lord is my Shepherd… He protects us from danger
Protecting us from any stranger
You separate the sheep from the goats
Guarding us from satan (the crafty wolf in sheep’s coats)

The Lord is my Shepherd… I know He will always provide
Even through the darkest night He is at our side
Delivering me from my biggest foes
When we are overwhelmed and scared He takes the blows

The Lord is my Shepherd… Forgiving and open
Taking in and loving us as we are: ****** and broken
As sheep we are so prone to wander and stray
But whatever we do we cannot get away

The Lord is my Shepherd… And I am in good hands
I rest in His wondrous presence; safe from shifting sands
‘Neath His wings I find a peace comparable to none
I bask in the power and warmth of The Son

Sun and Rain (Both Sides Now)

You’ve seen the sun and felt the rain

You’ve been through joy, you’ve been in pain

You’ve been on both sides now

And you’ve made it through life somehow

You may feel at times like you want to just disappear

But you are loved so have no fear

You’ve got to remember you’re not alone

You have the power to make hearts out of stone

We’re all there for you no matter what

We want to help you; no if, and, or but

The road we walk is full of cracks and breaks

Step carefully for there are many traps and snakes

But if we give ourselves to the Lord, He can fill the holes

He is the only one who can give you peace for your soul

If we are really His; He will provide for us

And when He gives us answers we sometimes fuss

Do you feel safer when we are around?

Whenever you are in trouble, we are always found

We are there for you now and for always

We are beside you, walking in the hallways

When we’re close at hand we hope you feel stronger

With our faith in you, you can hold on a bit longer

A family is a place you can run to

A family will love you no matter what you do

They are the people who pick you up when you are down

They will put a smile on your face in place of that frown

When you need them a family is always there

They will pull you through when things are less than fair

So when you’re down in the dumps just yell…

They’ll come runnin’ like children to the dinner bell

To our heroes overseas

And to those who have served our country

To those who know firsthand

Of the horrors of war and what it does to a woman or man

We want you to know we are here pulling for you

We thank you for the service you do

It is because of brave people like you that we are free

Ordinary people doing the extraordinary

Everyone is special and we hold life at high regard

Here today we celebrate veterans from the army, navy, national guard

Foundation Meditation

When building a new house, the first thing that happens once the plot of land is surveyed and excavated is the planning and lying down of the foundation. The foundation is the base and has to support the weight of the house. It needs to be strong and able to serve its purpose for a long time while taking abuse from the weight of the house and conditions below ground. The foundation could be the difference between a house that is safe and strong for many years and a house that is dangerous to the people living inside.

The foundation of a house is hidden underground. Although it is not noticed or seen, it is an essential part of the house that we appreciate so much. Without a solid or stable foundation to support and anchor it, the house would not be as strong or secure. A building cannot stand (well) without a (firm) foundation. The Bible tells us that: “We are temples of the Lord.” Some of us may remember a song we heard as young children during Vacation Bible School or on sing-along cassettes about two men and their houses which illustrates the necessity for a firm foundation. One built his house among large rocks high on a cliff, while the other built his house on the sand. The house on the sand was destroyed and swept away when the wind and waves got strong, but the house on the rocks could not be reached by the waves and the wind could not move it from its secure place among the rocks.

When we meet people along the road of our lives, we have the chance to share Jesus with them whether through words or deeds or faith. Sharing Jesus may include but is not limited to: giving a lecture, having a discussion, or preaching. No. Sharing Jesus could be a hug, a smile, opening a door, helping someone in any way either big or small, listening, giving your time, or saying a prayer for someone or something. There are so many ways to share Jesus! Every time we do something to share God with everyone we meet, we are building a foundation and potentially creating (or helping to create) another temple of the Lord. Like the foundations used in houses, that while underground and unseen are essential to even begin to build and later to support and secure so the structure stays strong and firm, so too are the times we share Jesus with others we meet in our lives. The thing we did may have built or helped to build a foundation in Christ and they too may do likewise. Just because we may not see the impact we had, or perhaps there is no impact at all, does not mean we have failed. In these times we pray: “God, grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change, the serenity to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

God has his reasons for what happens even though we may not like, or know, or understand why. For this, and all things in life, pray. Pray. Pray. Never stop praying. Don’t be afraid to ask. Ask often. It is said: “Seek and you will find, ask and you shall receive, knock and the door shall be opened. For anyone who seeks will find, anyone who asks shall receive, and anyone who knocks the door shall be opened.” Listen. Make sure to listen. He will speak, but he will not interrupt. He is patient and will wait for you to stop. Pray for wisdom, guidance, courage, strength, faith, hope, love. Ask Him to open our hearts and see with His eyes. Help us to love like you. Help us to be humble and remind us always; it is not about us, it’s about you. Anything we may have done or accomplished was not us, but you in us. And always Lord: Your Will Be Done. Not our will or what we want, but yours!

Poem after Confession

Lord, in order to save us, sinners through and through,

You, who had no sin, were killed out of a love so true

Giving up Your life and taking on all our sin,

Brought up again, You make new life begin.

I laid my troubles, sins and pains at Your feet

Vulnerable and helpless You bade me to take, do, drink, and eat.

And I am empty, hungry; I pine for Your touch;

Help me surrender; I need you so much.

Afraid of what I’ll find if I let it all go,

You give me the peace. Ask, and I’ll follow.

Feed me, give me drink. May I be transformed tonight.

And now that I’ve come, and now that it’s done, I start to see the light.

I start to see Your Light.

Prayer of Confession

Lord, I have sinned against You and Your people. Help me to say what is necessary. I have fallen into temptation and sin and Lord I ask you not only to forgive me, but help me forgive myself as well. To many, I should likely be punished, but to You Oh Merciful Lord, I ask for a penance to do. I realize now what I have done, that it must be righted, and Lord may you know now that I am truly sorry, and intend with Your help, not to do so again. In Your sweet name I pray. ----Amen.

Poem before Confession

Hello God, how are you?

I want to be made anew.

Because you died scorned and shamed,

I stand scot-free because you took the blame.

When they wrote “Amazing Grace” they had to be thinking about confessions

I really want to say that I have learned all my lessons,

But I really haven’t; I still do these bad things.

Still, because of You, my heart sings.

I am a sinner throughout all time

And I try to praise and thank you in this rhyme.

Though we may have been forgiven; our sins forgotten,

You are true and clean when I feel so rotten.

But that can change in the blink of an eye.

With one act being Your dying.

And as I prepare for confession I write this,

Soon enough, regret will turn into bliss.

It’s Christmas time, the time that Jesus Christ was born

Look in the sky for the Bethlehem Star the morn

The house is warm and the fire beckons

Perfect with cocoa and a book I reckons

Memories of family time all together

Hugs, thanks, and joy, and laughter

Some good, some sorrow your life has cost

Though we may wander; with God we’re not lost

I don’t want anything except smiling eyes

Psalms and Proverbs are words of wise

Seasons are like life; Christmas signals new

Out with the old in me and you

Soar with the snow; unique in your life

God has his reasons even through strife

Thank you my friend for being the one

I try to pierce the grayness with sun

You are my lamp, my guide, and my blinds

I am your ears, and shoulders, and mind

As Jesus the King was servant so I shall be too

Tell me, please tell me, what you would have me do

Life’s clock is ticking constantly with no wait or stop

I want to get things done before I get to the top

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

My Lord and My God I cry "Please save me!"

Many are my foes and even now they rise up and laugh

"His God will not come. He will not save this man!"

But Lord I know that, like a shield, You protect me

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

I cried to You Oh Lord My God "Please help me!"

You heard my cry and from Your thone You answered

When I slept, You kept watch and allowed me to rise each morning

I trust in You Oh God, though my enemies gather thousands strong

You help me. Keep high my head. Lord, I trust in You.

"Come Lord!" I pray, "Save me!"

I know you will silence their mouths and tongues

In You Oh Lord there is found safety

For You love and bless Your people

I fall on my knees and pray

At the start and end of each day

"Here I am. Are you there Lord?"

You hear my cry and pleading Lord.

I come slowly; crawling to your throne

Broken, ashamed, lost and alone

You stand before me in all of Your glory

Before I can speak You know all my story

You reach down and lift up my face

Dry a tear from my eyes; wash me with mercy and grace

You bid me to rise, then smile and open Your arms

You hold me and love me and all of me warms

You know I am sorry, I know You forgave

With Your help I can behave.

All this time You knew and were waiting

To welcome me back; loving not hating

And then a thought crept into my heart:

You were with me right from the start!

It is my joy to give you thanks and praise

Lord make me a hunger and thirst for you

I long for your touch and yearn for your embrace

Lord make me a vessel for you

Help me let go so you may increase as I decrease

Help me trust in your plans

What would I do to see you smile again

What would I give to see you happy

For just a moment or two crawl out of that fox-den

I'm sorry life is rough and you feel really (******)

I wish it were me to take or share some hurt and pain

To be your sun, your rainbow, an umbrella in your rain

The wind to blow your clouds away

A paintbrush to color your world; banishing all the gray

I want to be your salt, I want to be your light

To chase away the dark of night and say that it'll be alright

But I can't do any of this and it hurts me to the core

To see you suffer and not be able to help more
