I care for you now as I cared for you then
even when I said I just wanted to be friends,
it seemed like you understood but now it's
not that way, whenever we talk you don't
have much to say,
I didn't want to lose what we shared,
I didn't want us to grow apart,
but you didn't take a chance with me
you just left me in the dark.
Today I tried to talk to you and you just passed me by
didn't say Hi didn't say anything just left without a thought or a goodbye.

Hands held gingerly, each a pace apart
I lead in the dance, you bring rhythm to my heart
I take my bold steps and you glide across the ground
I reach into the air, but your nowhere to be found
So I dance on alone holding on to memories
Wondering if my steps will ever bring you back to me

The pain of you keeps me awake at night and I keep it close thinking I just might hold you again and say it's alright, but now I only travel memories, treasuring every mile and I wipe the tears all the while knowing sadness has a way of making me smile

I never understood how the palms of your hands felt like home to me
Or how your smile was the only thing bright enough to light the darkness inside my soul
But you built up castles from my broken pieces
And I never thought anything so damaged could look so beautiful

I'll never forget the way the sun
Hits your eyes, but I've
Forgotten the shade of
Ocean they resemble.

I fell in love with the trail
Of flowers that led from
Your grandmother's garden and
To your father's old wooden
Front door, through the kitchen
We once danced in and into
Your bedroom.

On days I cannot forget you,
I scrub a little harder in the shower.
I'm sure you no longer have
Your fingertips lost somewhere
Between my pores
(Better safe than sorry,
Like you always said).

You left me breathless from the
Day you told me I never
Deserved what he had done,
To the day you told me I never
Deserved you, either.

I sometimes catch myself
Screaming your name
In my dreams.

How bright the sun
How warm the sky
How strong the love of you and I
How cool the breeze
How sweet the scent
and how I love the time we spent
Rolling hills and splashing waves
Endless nights and year long days
Through summers touch and winters chill
I hold you close and time stands still

Darkness lurks within my soul
a living blight that no one knows
thick as oil I suffocate
forgetting love, there's only hate
