I looked at the world around me,
I could see the future clearly,
So perfectly laid out.
I would be successful,
I wouldn't be alone.

I knew I had to jump,
Had to fall.
So I picked the deepest ocean I could find,
And I dove in
Thinking it would be easy to swim back up.

When I hit the rock bottom,
The last thing I saw-
Millions of people just like me,
Drowning and clawing towards the sky
For just one more feeling of life.

And even though we were together,
I had never felt more alone.

I remember the feeling.
Like I was getting rid
Of every foul thing inside me.
I would feel so-
Empty.
But at the time
It was better than feeling everything.
And sometimes I would just lay there
And I would cry.
I was so ashamed
Of my bathroom coping mechanisms.
Brush my teeth
So the acid wouldn't make them yellow.
Appearances seemed to be important.
Had to be thin,
Had to be empty.

I didn't realize then
That I was wasting away
That there was another way
To purge my feelings.
But I know now.
I know now.

You saved me.
I have gone 2 years without my eating disorder! I'm a little fluffy now, but I'm proud.

He's a stable smithy
Thinks his genius words are pithy
As he pounds, pounds, pounds
Into the night

Swings his big word-hammer
Never minding lies and grammar
Cuz he's gotta, gotta, gotta
Fuel the fight

With his bellowslike ire
He stokes the fire
As it burns, burns, burns
To his delight

On his huge word-anvil
Pounds rumor and scandal
As they sizzle, sizzle, sizzle
Burning bright

Hones his words untoward
Like a two-edged sword
As they stab, stab, stab
Like a knife

As his words extrude
They can get really rude
As he pushes, pushes, pushes
Wrong as right

He's a stable smithy
Thinks his genius words are pithy
As he pounds, pounds, pounds
With all his might

Trying to relax
on my high-rise roof
I notice you across the street on
your balcony seemingly aloof
listening to vintage Carly Simon
"... you say we can keep our love alive"

You stare my way and enthusiastically waive
"Babe all I know is what I see"

I hesitate, smile and then return the gesture
          "The couples cling and claw"

As if on cue you stand and press against the railing
         "and drown in love's debris"

Still smiling as my heart beats faster
"... we'll soar like two birds through the clouds"

"What's your name?" you playfully cry out
"But soon you'll cage me on your shelf"

"Who wants to know?" is my surprising reply
"I'll never learn to be just me first by myself"

Suddenly flashbacks hijack my thinking
"... it's time we moved in together
and raised a family of our own, you and me"

Why is this happening?  Why am I sinking?
"... that's the way I've always heard it should be
you want to marry me, we’ll marry"

I hear your beseeching, unintelligible shouts as I retreat
Painful memories open like an oubliette under my feet—

I was told to follow My dream.
i did.
My dream was you.

Sadly,
You turned out to be My nightmare.
Do dreams Come true?

psyche
She used to have knots
like ties they had
intertwined
like vines
no wind could separate.

But today
she cut her hair

along with all
dead promises
of
holding on
Now she blooms in her short freeze-free hair.
She knew she could be better...
