Well I'm runnin'down the road
Try'n to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me
Two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy , take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Well I'm standing on a corner
In Winslow Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl my lord
In a flat-bed Ford
Slowing down to take a look at me
Come on baby , don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love
Is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up I'm climbing in
So take it easy
Well I'm runnin' down the road
Tryin' to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who
won't blow my cover
She's so hard to find
Take it easy , take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Make you crazy
Come on baby , don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love's
Gonna save me
Take it Easy , Glenn Frey dead at 67 . He contributed to this song with the lines (It's a girl my lord in a flat-bed Ford slowin' down to take a look at me) The rest of the song was written by Jackson Brown .

Whisper in the night
You hear them murmur
their voices so weak
You must stand completely still to even hear a peep
They sound so earnest
Concerned more like
Every once in a while
A voice rises in pitch
intense and tight
A day in a court where the lawyers and judge confer before the judge declares the accused guilty without ever asking how do you plea .

Sing . . . sing
Sing ya heart out
Sing cause there is no sun coming
And there's to be no morrow
Dress today to shine
In splendid glory
Come sings . . . sings

Oh ! the empty hole
   That palpitates through my soul
Where nothing consumes all
   And silence is deafening
The cold sun rises
   Hollow
Upon my pale ways

My empty eyes gaze
   into a space
Where I cannot be
   My mouth tastes the chains
Of Freedom bitter in grit and rust
   And my nostrils swell with
The stench of the situation
   And the silence is deafening

As all the while a cold sun
Rises pale upon my hollow days

You heard me !
I don't write silly love poems anymore .
At best they become bleak .
They are the ships at sea scuttled by storm .
The aircraft that lose power and crash into the ground .
The miners of affection when the roof comes down .
Don't ask or make a sound .
I'm committed to silence so don't you mess around .
THEIR evermores doomed from first kiss and sworn bliss .
From the cradled vows
to the certain anyhows
Don't ask me about love poems anymore .

If I Dreamed
If I dreamed
I'd deam of you
I'd dream of all the misery
That you put me through

I'm so glad
You're not around
You're such a clown
Cept for the fact you turned smiles upside down

So now you're gone
I couldn't care less
Can't you see it was all for the best

So don't you call
I cut the line
Other than you
Everything is absolutely fine

Can't you see it was never meant to be
We're as different as the birds are
From the fish in the sea

So don't you cry
We'll get by
There's got to be some clouds
Before you can have blue skies

Can't you see it was never meant to be
We're as different as the birds are from
The fish in the sea

So let's just say our goodbyes
I see a tiny twinkle of moisture in your eyes

So let's just say our last goodbye
I'm not ashamed of the twinkle in my eye
No , I'm not ashamed of the tears in my eyes

You can't give me what I don't need
I can't be crazy
You said I'd lost my mind
If I am so lazy
Why am I always moving on
Time is money
Money is time
What a bipolar truth
My cup runneth over with nothing
You can't have nothing until you have nothing to
lose
Hey Brother !
Can you spare me a dime

I am not Phoenix
I will not rise from my ashes

When I burst into flame
Only my ashes will remain

I am not everlasting love
Just a memories horde

Of days and years of passion
laying in the ruins as ashes

I am not an eternity
Just a wiff of smoke and wind

Place my remains on a tier of wood
Set the fire as understood

Love in Cask
My love was casked and aged in heart
It was soft and hard and sometimes nought
It drew breath away from sunset eyes
It left me in the gladness of goodbyes
I can only accept the memories bliss
Of sweet and sour honnied kiss
And all the last second of your sigh
Written across the tears of eye
And I become a vapourous ghost
Of time lost to pillar post
Tis now time to uncork the cask
And take off my weary mask
And savour love
I make a toast to love's hollow boast

Who is the I in me
I have three wishes I need to make
Just open up my eyes
The I can surely see

Where is the I in love
I am asking of myself
There is no resolution
No gifts from the "eye" above

So I dig yet another grave
And bury the last remains
I find it all hilarious
The stupidity makes me rave

OK , you never loved me
I brought it all down I see
You never said ,"I love you ."
It was all my fantasy

So who is the I
That I've become to be
Just the oldest fool sailing

Write to me lovely poetry
She sent black bound volumes
Critiquing the umbrella of my ways

I will not encase you
Instead she hastes the reckoning
The arrival of the dead of days

Talk of unification
She remains pure of thought
In form , body , an image of purest rays

Comfort now my body
So she raises her hands
and begins to pray

She Said
She said there are no men
There are no women
Only people
The rose lips were petals that
Moved in the sun bleached wind

No I said
There must be a separation

Yes , your separation I can see now
Is complete

So I see the after Christmas trees
Lying in the alleys
In January

She said there are no men
There are no women
Only trees pretending
To be people
Shedding ***** needles
In the alleys
Lying face down
Cold and covered in frost

Their separation
Now complete
No longer men
No longer women
They've become
Forgotten people

The Muse Master
Muse :
"Move over fool and watch a Muse Master
at work"

In the blackness of my soul
I sit listening to far off thunder
      As inside it also rolls

      For long long seconds
      There is no sound
      Then begins the brumble bound

      Quicken flashes does my mind's
      Hindsight cause flashes white
Of the truth hidden by the night

It is perhaps then I stir
And begin to think of you
      A soul's ***** as if a burr

      Then the truth will crash
And I slow count to ten
      Before I hear rumble within

      Then comes a calm
      No more flash or sound
I have burried my thoughts of you

Me :
"I don't know ," I say. "Maybe by tomorrow's
light . . . . I'll have a say ."

Then the muse did stare
With such a cold cold glare
All the fluids in my glass froze

There she was
Then she wasn't
And she vanished
Into the cold thin air

The Ring
She puts her forefinger and thumb upon the ring and twists it upon her ring finger . Her eyes are furrowed in sadness as she looks out the kitchen window to the lake below . She barely breathes for the pain rests sullenly upon her ****** bleeding heart . She's had enough and it's time to make a change .
Love rolls like thunder when it's concentrated in a golden diamonded ring . She can't take another breath with the hate that fills the air .She can't speak without starting another wildfire serenade . So she sits at the kitchen table twisting around the bounds that say she is supposed to care .

She pulls it off maybe to her first nuckle and then pushes it back on . It has become more complicated than it should have ever been . A tear falls upon her hand when she thinks of all the love she shared . Then shudders when all the hate takes it's place and turns love into despair .

She takes a deep breath and then slowly pulls off her wedding bands and lays them in the bowl . There is no wind blowing but suddenly she's feeling so cold . She looks down upon the lake and sees the sky's reflection and half heartedly says ,"It's not to late." But she knows inside the flame has died snd it can never be lit again .

Come down off your poem
long days have all gone
Somebody you can hear is calling

Running deep the river bends
moving on with amens
Some things just keep on gnawing

The winter will be ice
I'll get relief at last
When I lay under blankets of snow

All those days once before
Memories rich and poor
There just to let you know

I can see the greens of spring
Summer's blissfull loving thing
Still I hear the mournful call of winter

Come down off your poem
Leave your words as you were born
The river has frozen over

I could not find
I could not find a heaven
Nor an excuse for even Hell
All I was able to find
Were the cutters lying
Saying I don't even when they do

The stars are vicious beasts
As seen from miles away
They would incinerate you
If they could
They would , and do

So when man looks
Into the nightime sky
Asking all kinds of questions why
Searching for the truth is elusive
When  inside him it's denied

So I will cross the proverbial bridge
Over the trickle of a creek
Standing on both
Sides now
I'll think I'll take a leak .

Bitters
Let's cut to the chase
She was up in my face
Like the alcoholic eyes
And her bottle of mace

She lunged at my lips
But I was too quick
She fell on the floor
Smearing lip stix

Then she begged on her knees
"Why can't I fill all your needs ?"
She looked so pathetic
She was certainly not steez

Then when I had turned away
She grabbed the knife off the tray
And came at me
Before I could say ,"Hey !"

But she did stumble
And took an awfully bad tumble
And the knife point pierced
The heart full frontal

So the police were called
They arrived without stall
They asked "How did she die ?"
"Strangulation ! No lie !"

was so full
of promise
The laughter was
so natural
and carefree
I felt like I
had finally found
the place that
I was meant to be

But the people
soon paired into
their couples
The loud noise
had become
subdued
And by midnight
the room was
mostly empty
Empty as the feeling
it had left inside of me

So I left
and nobody noticed
No goodbyes
or see you again
real soon
I walked into the darkness
of the warm evening air
Realizing that I was
one of those
who had no one who cared

So put me on the highway
I've got no where
I have to be
More empty miles
of lonesome
on the road
called eternity

And I will now fake it
And I will somehow
learn to take it
Take it all back home
with me

So put me on the highway
I've got no where
I have to be
More empty miles
of lonesome
on the road
called eternity

Remembering Soft Wet Kisses
My footsteps fall softly on sixteenth street
Searching for the sprites of the past
I find only the wisps of memories stirred

I carry a sadness of golden flame
Cured in perfectioned pain
A pain that comforts my soul

I found the porch swing
But it no longer sings of
Dazzling lights in night

The sun harshly criticizes the age
Of this memory going down
Scorching into a white colorless litany

Where are the soft wet kisses
That burned into the bark of my heart
Proclaiming our love by this deed

Now has forever to be trampled
In the wind's rushed revelations of falling Leaves remembering soft wet kisses

Truth
I asked God for the truth .

And he said "You will know the truth , and the truth will set you free."

But he didn't tell me it would make me sad .

Used to . . .
I used to date girls like you
that wake up beside me with their makeup still on

We used to exclaim "Oh ! how free" , and dance to our folly
In the snow on empty streets

I used to sit on the front porch swing with you and sing with the music . Then kiss you long and wet during the long guitar solos .

I used to lie with you on the golf course at night under the stars and quote poetry

I used to . . . but no more

Block poems use the same word twice in every poem . Looks simple don't they . Ha ha ha , they will drive you mad .

When the welcome rots
When the welcome . . .
rots

in a handshake of
disgust . . .

When moments . . .
are swarms of giant asian wasps

And embraces
are zephyr soft . . .
as shadow's are thin

There's no desire . . .
to do it again

Poetry as Underwear
Sometimes . . .
Such as a Who
. . . at Leeds ,
Or a dream unfullfilled
. . . in Alabama
Or the conflict
. . . daily in Dallas
or the absurd
. . . "Free at last ! Free at Last! Thank God free at last !

The more it changes
The less I recognize
. . . and there you elbow me
saying ,"It remains the same!"

Poetry is like underwear
It's wearable but not necessary
Comes in all shapes and sizes
Any color you would want
with printed statements of facts
Some wear well
Some have holes
Some rise to the occassion
Some barely make it waste deep

Bridge
There was no bridge that was too far
No letter mailed that was too short
No message tacked to the back door
Or shouted out in front as a last resort

The open cupboard bears no fruit
The garden grows green of ****
There are no mountains , just a hill
And mutterings of , "it's all God's will."

The windows feel like bullet holes
The rusty nails tremble , weak
Wondering is it safe inside
Knowing there's nothing there that I now seek

So by ease the river flows
I sit and think and want to know
As twigs and leaves float on by
I'm asking if this isn't all a great big lie

You can always count on those pretty blue skies
Except those days it clouds
to rain from way up high
And the stores have not remained the same
when going down streets of first or main

I made a mistake we all will do
That something's stuck to the past life's super glue
There is nothing there that now remains
Except my foolish folly and
broken panes

Schadenfreude
Saw you drop your car keys in the gutter
And I smiled
The letter fell to the ground in the pouring rain
Serves you right
Then the wind turned your umbrella inside out
And I chuckled at your folly
Soaking wet in your car and it wouldn't start
Then I saw you bent over the steering wheel sobbing
Then I didn't feel so smug
Then I regreted how mean I could be
I walked out into the rain and tapped on the window
"Can I help ?"
Schadenfreude - taking pleasure in others pain .

I Remember
I remember all the best
Deep in my midnight's rest
Now I remember the kiss
that brings tears to my eyes
I remember riding bicycles
Under October skies
Now there is no chance
No turning back
Or looking back to glance
Because you will not be there

So the memories have been
Written off the page
The recovery has all been staged
Turn your head and say
To the ghosts of another day
I wish you well
Just as when we were all so naieve
In our wildest dreams
we never thought to learn to grieve
Now all I can say . . .
I wish you well
