Large old door
Made of wood
Locked it was
So there I stood

Key so far
Fell down on my knees
Was it in the car
Or perhaps in some trees..
What is a note, yet another cry for validation.

I feel this when I see you.
I'm overjoyed when I'm with you.
I have a crazy sensation.
I just want an "us".
You and I forever.
One day we will have this.
For now we just will have to live without each other.

You're more beautiful than the Mona Lisa
You're my latest and greatest inspiration.

A good friend with a basset-hound face is on his feet
The rest of us are weak
as newborn puppies,
from the late hour, the numbing glory in our lungs
But, mostly from laughter.

This young man is a connoisseur of altered states, an apprentice butcher, and one of the chosen few who breath music in and out effortlessly
And he's preaching
Prosthelytizing

Three minutes before,
he had been happily day dreaming
Three feet from the floor
with the ****-tube beaming
happy
simple
moving colors

The man on the set shows us how to stir-fry chicken
Our mouths water, but we're content to sit.

But with the fire coming up that glass pipe
and setting his boiler to churn along feverish
He caught an insight
or it snared him, like a spiderweb across a peaceful hiking path

On his feet
He was beginning to see connections
And had to share them with someone
Now

I'm a limp doll at this point, fully immersed in the body-high
Thoughts are glacial, movement glacial

Oh, my friend.
You're talking to the wrong audience
We can't hope to see it as you do.

But he keeps on keeping on.
And tells us a thing or two.

Cooking
He says
Is like ***.

As our laughter dies down to a dull roar, he continues

The speeds and heats and intensities can all vary
to give you countless subtle differences.
But the true constant is care
Loving attention to the finest detail.

His brows furrow, his toes test the fibers of the rug
and he glances back up, and I imagine a podium in front of him.

Or maybe it's like Jazz. He says.
We learn, or glean out, how things are supposed to happen
But in the moment, the twanging instant
Beautiful things will themselves to exist
and they defy all well-laid plans.
And that's the point of all life isn't it? Eat well. Have great ***. Everything else is just another step towards that end.

and oh, I'm a man
I'm a man and I dance but oh, please don't love me
oh, please don't
oh please, I'm no good anymore, I've gone and spoiled
and I've swung from the trunk of a war elephant
and that's all I have anymore, oh
to find love in this town requires a bottle and perhaps a lighter to find me

I walk up the stairs, head for my room,
the keys been used,
I open and see,
You,
Divine as my first glance,
leaning on the chair,
only the moons light ,
glaring your red lips,
red shoes, and fluttering eyes,
eyes that heat me,
sweating,
that look of yours ,
so lost, so gorgeous,
your hair blows softly,
the windy city air,
your skin sizzling,
with slow ease,
your body so sophisticated ,
beautifully indescribable,
I move closer, and don't bother to notice the door slam,
your grin widens with comfort,
step by step ,
I pause,
then put a hand on your leg ,
stockings,
your smooth thigh,
my other hand ,
your back,
i lay my lips on your kiss of death, ..... the rest is euphoric, ......moment by moment,........ as we both lay ,
entwined,
I know your initial J,
you know mine,
we both know one of us will die,
tomorrow,
,...... that is certain,
she is that lady,...... my lady, ..... goodbye....
It's a wonder the bottom of my heart
didn't fall to my feet when you called
just to say you love me ...

you are the sunshine of my life,
not a part time lover ... for once
in my life I've been given
a second chance at romance

you embody all a man should be
human, yes ... yet with ideals
that speak to my soul

my spirit flies free because you
permit me to be ... me
no demands

in kind I would not stifle you
nor ******* your own freedom

although committed to one another
we have a life apart ... enough
room to breathe, think, pray
when we are together
we cherish this time, renewed

in your blue eyes I see a mirror
of my own ... a reflection
of pure affection

our love is aging like fine wine
and if we continue to evolve,
we may have a place in the sun
because ... I think ... we won't
have to worry 'bout a thing.

You are a Wonder
In the spirit of the great Stevie Wonder write us a bedazzling poem using this contest. Picture as your inspiration. Take us wherever the picture inspires you to go.  Looking for creativity, metaphors and other such embellishing tools to add to your entry.

(Recognizable are mentions of various songs of Mr. Wonder in this poem ...
I italicized those songs)
My afternoons have been spent listening to her
And her mind-numbing jazz, the trumpets
and the trombones, the bass guitar and the piano.
I'm almost tone deaf but, god, I could feel her soul
through her songs. She has caught me
like how liquor stared back at me
with her golden stare
As the ice begins to sweat.

After school she would teach me
How to handle her instruments:
The soprano, the alto and the tenor.
The former, we would practice often at her whim;
Her favorite sax which even with a few notes,
she'd ask me to play with her.

In her own words, "You have to imagine"
"Making love to your instrument."
"Imagine me", she said.
And for the first time I heard her play
Pink panther off key.
Special thanks to J.S.P. and to Orophino Jazz Band.
