goal oriented affections mean nothing

do i have a problem he asked
ungripped from the idea of desire
slight misunderstandings amongst those present
watch it all unfold

beneficial mistakes led to destiny
beautiful positions fill the space between
pure vanity overtakes love not meant to be

affections without true purpose
lungs spilling the life you have
on the brink of death
all for the misuse of her humility

simply to be with the girl of your dreams
broken hearts between brought you to me he realized
the lives he's taken before was worth it

You’ve got those eyes
The one’s they talk about in movies
And that smile
That echos around my head like a the bass at a concert

But I’m in love without you
Because he also has that smile
And he holds me just right
And he has that mannerism where he pushes his hands through his hair when he’s nervous

And I’m not afraid anymore
Of your destructive fear
Or your eccentric need to impress others
Or your obsession with what I wear

Because I’m in love without you
Never thought I’d feel this way again
So
Please don’t still love me.

Gazing into your eyes
Lost in time
Lost in space
Crossing all the boundaries
To a faraway place
When all is said
And heard
The truth, and the lies
Cause for concern
Until the end of time
An affair with your mind

Unlike anything
I have ever known
A journey to you
Find me
In your breath
Theme: To be where, you are
Hope is Dancing

Lying alone each night, empty arms aching,
all the while
                      hope is dancing
                      hope is dancing
                      hope is dancing
                                                   in my dreams
when I’m awake I would seek to see
the sunshine in your face
the heavens in your eyes
and to hear the  melodic honey of your lips
that would turn my lemonade soul sweet.

And I would hope
And I would hope
And I would hope
you’d dance duet with me
all the years we have left.

I can't take back the love that I gave you,
You found another one, but it's true
That I'm the better one....
I gave you my everything,
My love and affection,
But you give me a heart full of mistakes,
I gave you my heart, and you made it break?
I just made a poem out of one of my friends WhatsApp statuses.

...and I hope that one day we come to understand our love...

June bugs crash into screens
mosquitoes whine
to get in by any means
dogs howl, frogs croak
like the bass fiddle
in Lightning Hopkins’ blues.
Sticky moisture from the bayou
envelopes, and soaks through,
permeates still night air
like the sad strains of Claude’s La Mer.

Growing up in southern climes
slowed days, stretched years
put me on the edge of tears
yearning for escape from there
from dominion of church
and Mama’s monarch perch.

Hints of her softness
were so rare and spare
that when she let us smooth her hair
we forgot how parched were we
for a trace of this tender intimacy
on summer nights’ scorch
spent on our homestead porch.
Before the advent of air conditioning families, especially children, spent lots of time on their front porches. This poem is an attempt to describe the experiences there of one little Cajun-French girl. This is the second of the Teche Series of poems inspired by the memoir of my cousin, Melanie Durand Grossman,  "Crossing Bayou Teche."
