 May 2017 Just Me
George Anthony
just this
this is all i need
just this

orchestral symphony
my quiet solitude
cup of coffee

just this
none of that
just this

i don't
need you or
anyone else

just this
this is all i need
just this
but i suppose i could also do with a break from you

do you feel that?
the crescendo of emotion?
the crest of a wave
of inexplicable
something
that just drowns you?

do you feel it?
the weight of your own
existence?
this inexplicable urge
to lie down
and cry gently
for no reason at all?

do you feel
what i'm feeling?
an appreciation for life
whilst
hating being alive?
falling in love
with the universe
and out of love
with yourself?

do you feel that?
are you drowning in
existentialism?
does your chest
feel like it's
imploding?
are your lungs too big
for your rib cage?

do you feel it?
do you feel
what i'm feeling?
do you even feel
at all?

It is not difficult to know how to fly,
I think,
afterall!
our very atoms have flown aeons to reach and reassemble themselves here,
in this way.

Every mammal knows how to fly.
Some bacteria remember how too,
but they are a wily bunch and untrustworthy as sailors on a mid morning slop across an unwritten and unpronounceable port.

The trouble isn't KNOWING.
The trouble is GROWING.

Can't grow wings or thin, light, air-filled bones.
Can't drift upwards on the airstreams.
But you can grow upwards,
and you can fly.

The secret lies in knowing all your own reasons as to why
you want to fly.

a  kite thrives
on passion,
holding on
   by
      a
         thin
            cord
               that
                  only
                     one
                        soul
                           completes

but when the kite
becomes snared in
power lines of reason,
it is every lover's loss

I curl my knees, drop my head to my chest, my phone cupped carefully to my heart
Its buzz is now the lifeblood vibrating through my veins

*You're still here
To my coach
This has a lot of meanings

for someone who was never
meant for this world,
I must confess
I'm suddenly having a
hard time leaving it.

of course they say
every atom in our bodies
was once part of a star.

maybe I'm not leaving.
maybe I'm going home.
