Every night
like a homing bird
you fly back home
to the horizon,
to your nest
perched on the
shimmering clouds
among misty shadows of
heavenly beings,
where stars sliver
the darkness, sea waves
break into cool lullabies;

but why haven’t  you come back today?

Sea wails in pain
shattering
into frothy bits,
sky breaks  in
painful thunder, sands
console each other
whispering in silence, a horrified
moon explodes in  the sea
illuminating
the moaning waves;

my heart
also pains
because
you haven’t returned to me
to your nest
beyond the horizon
perched on the
shimmering clouds
to share our eternal wait.

I'm looking for wishes
Disguised in a sigh...
Now and forever
Embracing the soul
Spreading like a sweet curse...
The meaning of my days
The song of my nights
The destination of every journey...
You...
A flawless melody
Breaking the silence
Of all the lonely whispers
Buried deep within me...

If there was one word
One word, isolated by itself
That I cannot stand above all others
It would have to be "Okay"
I despise "Okay"
"Okay"
Is how your millionth day at work went
"Okay"
Is off-brand raisin bran
"Okay"
Is how you say life is going
When you don't want to admit you spend
Every second of it
Wanting to die

"Okay"
Is packed to the brim with
Hidden implications
Like a treasure chest
Filled with bottles
With little subliminal hatreds
Written on tiny slips of paper
Passively aggressively pushed inside
To discover later
As I pull out a treasure map
And try to decipher
Where I went wrong

"Okay"
Is a one word dismissal
That feels like an essay a thousand pages long
"Okay"
Is a poison dripping with disinterest
When I dared to share with you
Something I thought might make you smile
"Okay"
Is like trying to talk to a wall
While watching the paint on it dry
"Okay"
Takes two seconds to write
Yet I waited days
For that dreaded word
To grace my notifications
"Okay"
Should be used sparingly
As if each time you send it
You **** the receiver just a little bit
"Okay"
Should not be said so often that
I know what you're about to say
Like I saw it in a crystal ball
"Okay"
Is not looking up from your phone
When I tell you about my day
"Okay"
Is not the proper response
To "I love you"

They say that the opposite of love isn't hatred
It's indifference
And I can't think of a response
More indifferent to pouring out
My heart into your hands
Than "Okay"
At least the last thing you said to me
Before we parted ways
Showed that you cared
At least a little bit
"I hate you"
Stung less
Than the thousands of times
Over our countless conversations
You responded
"Okay"
Okay?

Me
I don’t want to
Open my mouth
Because I’m still afraid
The truth might come out
And if it does
If it really breaks free
You’ll see what I am
You’ll see the true me
The one I hide
With jokes and lies
I’m a terrible person
All jokes aside
You don’t seem to know it
You don’t seem to see
Even a glimpse of that person
That I know to be me
I’m such a good actress
I hide it so well
Cover it with a laugh
And you’ll never tell
You see depth in my eyes
You see love and emotion
But what would you see
If I ever did open
I can’t bear to find out
I can’t bear to show
The me you don’t see
The me that I know
If I let it out
If I let it be
I know for a fact
That you would hate me.

She controls her laughter,
lets it slip from the edge of her mouth,
the corners of her lips lift ever so slightly,
then, she makes a sound,
seamlessly, her fingers graze my thighs,
smoothly, her eyes meet mine,
and in her eyes, I see my reflection—
aflame, abashed, and fiery,

She is the answer I’ve scoured the world for,
and yet, she, herself, remains a mystery,

Ah, I see,
She controls her laughter
as easily as she controls me.

I will not leave for the song of the silence.
I refuse to accept it’s invitation to it’s welcome embrace,
in which I would suffocate.

I will not leave for the song of the silence.
I will not join in its catastrophic symphony of darkness
no matter how tempting the sound.

I will not leave for the song of the silence.
I dare not risk meeting the mute of that gently wrapped bed,
no matter how much I need the sleep.

I will not leave for the song of the silence.
Not if it means leaving you.
