Paul Butters
I’m no author, novelist or poet.
I’m just Me,
And don’t I know it.
I don’t need to be classified,
As long as I’m writing, I’m satisfied.

Typing out words, line by line,
I don’t care if they don’t rhyme.
I don’t care if my verses don’t scan:
I’m not always an Iambic Man.

I just say what I gotta say,
I’m not worried about any pay.
Words come to me without much bidding,
The world of its evils I hope to be ridding.

I love to spread lots and lots of Love,
Bringing peace to all like a messenger dove.
Things of beauty bring joy, John Keats rightly said,
To make us sleep easy when we go to bed.

So I’ll paint what I paint,
And sing what I sing,
Just letting those words
Do their magical thing.

What kind of world will we leave for our children,
one that is shackled in hate?
Tying their hands in the wake of the future,
sealing the edge of their fate.

Killing of innocents minding their business,
filling the shadows with fear.
What is the plan to relieve all this worry,
now that it’s already here?

Why is it right that we turn against neighbors
just for the clothing they wear?
The color of skin and the faith they believe in,
did we forget how to care?

Racism churned from the bellies of monsters,
pointing their fingers in blame
When will they learn that we’re in this together,
regardless of language or name?

Why do we hide always ducking for cover,
waiting this terror to cease?
When we can stand up like sister and brother
walking together in peace.

We are all people who live on this planet,
being the best we can be.
It’s up to us what we leave for our children,
why not a world that is free?
Inspired by a conversation this morning with a very dear and special friend.

*Rose petals bloom
in your smile's inspiration
Sunsets begin
with the glow in your eyes

Hummingbirds sing
of your heart's destination
Perfect your skin
under cool autumn skies

Whispering sonnets
this night as you're sleeping
Hoping your dreams
are a beautiful view

So when you wake
you will know what I'm seeing
Every moment
that I look at you
I could never write a poem as beautiful as she is to me.

How much longer must we stand here
As the waters continue to rise
We are a people, a Holy nation
Waiting on the coming tide

With the knowledge of what we hope for
Having confidence in this
That our God and mediator
Will judge all in His righteousness

While here we all must suffer
As this earth is not our home
Making clear we have another
As the Spirit testifies in moans

Awaiting the day the good Lord frees us
Letting him have his way and will
Relying on his word to daily free us
Till every Jot and Tittle is filled

How much longer must we stand here
As the waters continue to rise
We your people, your Holy nation
Waiting daily on the coming tide

*Yours is the love
that does live in my heart
It is the glue
when my world falls apart

Provides the sun
as the clouds come to call
Lifts me right up
if I stumble and fall

Lightens my load
when it's too much to bear
When I am lonely
it tells me you're there

If I am crying
it dries all my tears
When I am frightened
it chases my fears

Gives me the strength
when I'm fragile and weak
Shows me the way
if the path I do seek

Brings out my smile
every time I am blue
I hope my love
does the same thing for you

A stranger once asked of me
If I would give to him my thought,
Do you believe there will be anything in heaven,
That by man's hand was wrought?

With a voice of disbelief I said
This I have heard COULD be true
Two things made by man
MIGHT await in heaven for me and you

He looked at me as though intrigued
Asking," What in heaven is made by man"?
You cannot enter through its portals
Unless forgiven of your plaque of sin

I replied that in Heaven many believe exist,
I am told these two things,
Two scars made by nails,
One in each hand of Christ the King

Immeadiatly the man bowed his head,
As he raised his hands up into the air,
Looking I could see the scars,
But then the stranger was no longer there

Alone upon that city street,
I fell upon my knees,
Crying, Forgive me Lord of my plaque of sin,
My Lord I now believe .

She's a woman of integrity,
She recognises her beauty,
And her specialty.
Knowing she's not perfect,
She reflects before she can react,
She may not be every mans desire,
But that doesn't matter because its not something to require,
Love and total attention from one is enough,
Lots of times she laughs,
At times she even bluffs,
When life gets rough,
She gets tough,
She's a survivor,
Her familys reviver.
She's a woman,
A woman of integrity.

I saw a path and ran ahead
I nearly lost my way
Your mercy caught me by the arm
To Your side You bid me stay

I put my hope in my own plans
Which soon around me fell
You stopped me short upon that road
And said, "Rest and all will be well."

I'd surrendered all, but to my foe
Enticed into the briars
You turned his evil schemes instead
Into refining fires

I couldn't see my helplessness
Until my legs were broken
Till Shepherd's hands caressed my wounds
And healing words were spoken

You picked me up and carried me
And made me feel Your favorite
You held my head against Your chest
Until I grew to savor it

You tended me with gentlest touch
Then soothed all thought of fears
You sang forgiveness over me
And washed away my tears

There is no one like You, Lord
On whom I can rely
In loss, in danger or attack
You hear this poor sheep's cry

It's You Who keeps me from real harm
Who watches my coming and going
You shield me with Your strong right hand
From darts the enemy keeps throwing

You said to all who trust in You
You would give perfect peace
Enough for mind and heart to rest
To let all worrying cease

So, Lord, I trust You with my life
Your Shepherd's heart is pure
Your purpose for me's guarded well
And Your deliverance is sure

Please teach this sheep, Lord, how to wait
And strengthen me to stand
To put my hope in Your desires
And to love Your sovereign plan

You lead me into fields so green
Where streams of life are flowing
Where healing winds blow oft' and strong
And choicest fruits are growing

You set me free to hear Your voice
To follow at Your call
And even through the dark, cold nights
I'll know You've arranged it all

Yes, storms will come with battering rains
With hail and gusts and thunder
But these are meant to beckon me
To Your wings to pull me under

For it's in the darkness of the storm
My grip's most apt to tighten
And when my heart beats next to Yours
All earthly burdens lighten

Still learning to reach for the gifts
star like in the skies
Taking them into my heart

One at a time

One for your love
The children too

One for the mind
One for the feelings
Through and through

One for the light evolving
One for the light of healing

One at a time

One for the heat of living

Still learning to reach for the gifts
Star like in the skies.

*A face and a hand in a grand illustration,
still in the corner I hide
Formed of this feel and its lengthened frustration,
longing to come but inside

Thoughts that I bear, like a weight ever growing,
changing my whole point of view
Staring the crowd it is who I am knowing,
given the old and the new

Moving a bit, to evade their detection,
what would the words seem to say
Scared and amiss and in fear of rejection,
cast but the hours away

A shrug of my shoulders, the look on my face,
all as an act and a dream
For I have fallen this road to retrace,
loneliness now starts the theme

When in the distance I hear as I’m falling,
voices I tend to believe
Giving me guidance, so long I’ve been calling,
waiting this time to receive

Take what you want, it can't wait any longer,
nothing to lose but regret
Tell her your feelings and watch it grow stronger,
jump in, get both your feet wet

I heeded their message and ended the crying,
reached for her out of the blue
Showed her a love that was endless, undying,
proving to always be true

Now with her hand on these future endeavors,
placing our pen at the start
Words on the page we are writing together,
verses of love from the heart

A lonely leaf blowing in the wind
tossed to and fro by the seasons change
you eventually land
become faded over time
but you never felt jaded
by the changes you faced

You grew from a tiny bud
shined upon by the suns love
you drank deeply
from heaven's rain
You remained free
from any human pain

When your time was up
You went out in a
Blaze of glory
in wonderful colors
for others to enjoy

someday when my time
on
earth is up
I can only
hope
to
go out
so
beautifully
