You speak but not with words

Your mouth says little
But your eyes say much
Your eyes they tell me secrets
whispering the "I love you"
your too afraid to say
Asking if I could really be yours.
Your eyes say they want me
Long for me
Need me.

What you don't know is that
You speak just not with words.

I wonder if you can hear
songbirds playing in mine
or the butterflies that explode
when I look in your eyes.
Do my eyes speak to you?
Do they tell you my secrets?
Do they whisper the things I'm too afraid to say?

What you don't know is that
I speak just not with words.

flowers
many times they go through
stormy weather
long, cold days and nights
before they can truly take root,
before they begin to grow and bloom.
they start off merely a seed
in the soil inches from the surface,
with water and light
they begin to become
everything they were meant to be.

if flowers can bloom even after the harshest winters
maybe you can too.

- growth is a process

Monsters
They’re scary
Some are in the closet
Some are under the bed
But you want to know a secret?
The scariest monsters
Are in our heads
I am my own monster

I learned to be quiet.
To be sure not to say a whole lot.
To keep me voice down
and not speak up.

I learned the art of listening to those around me.
Knowing how it feels to be ignored
or feel like too much.

No one ever questioned
or thought it odd
that I had not a single thing to say.

Until you.

You created space for me to be.
Your eyes, they lit up when I would speak
You looked at me with intention
You listened with expectation
As if everything I had to say
was unlocking another piece of the mystery
You handled me with care
To you I was a fragile jar made of clay
with lily's and magnolias delicately placed
inside.

You're the person I've been for everyone else
for me.

I'm afraid.
I'm afraid of my mind.
I'm afraid of the depth, of what I'm capable of.
Of what my brain can imagine or focus on.
I'm afraid of the thoughts that come flooding in,
and I'm afraid of the ones that break down the walls.
I'm afraid, for I feel too much,
and I'm afraid that one day
I won't be able to take it all.

Today is a good day.
It’s better than the rest.
I don’t have all the stress
Hanging over me
Like I did yesterday.

I feel good today.
I feel better than the rest.
I don’t have depression
Lingering around me
Like I did yesterday.

I have had a good day.
Everything about this day
Has been better than all the rest.
Again, I don’t have all the stress,
I don’t feel as depressed
Like I did yesterday.

Today I finally feel okay.
