The flower long gone
The heart plucked by winters hand
And for a moment
Her pedals once soft again
Held behind closed eyes.

Watching waves throw shapes,

In them my heart excapes.

Ephemeral
Arthur Blank Sep 2021
I am thunder and the rain,
A howling hurricane,
I wreck havoc,
Then fade fast away...

And you, a springtime flower,
Flourishing in my showers,
A shooting star against the moon,
Short lived and gone too soon..

Stay, just awhile longer....

On Being Common.
Arthur Blank Jun 2021
I am a common man,
With a common touch.
I take my meals,
With a common cup.

With a common brain,
With a commen sense.
I view the world,
Threw a common lens.

I do common work,
With common men.
I sigh my deeds,
With a common pen.

I am a common man,
With a common heart.
I make my day,
With a common start.

With common hair,
And a common face.
I breathe common air
From a common place.

I have common struggles,
I have common falls.
Yet, most think themselves different,
That I'm not very common at all.

Where is my muse today?
I stare out windows at the grey
Wasteland filled with rain.
Where did the fervor go?
   Did it fly away,
To rain sodden trees,
   To fall and quench clay,
From budding twigs and stunted
    Leaves?
Where is the fire today?
Lifes cold, so dull and plain.
If I pray for warmth, will it stay,
Or be extinguished by the rain?
Where is the vigor,
That filled my days in youth?
Why won't it manifest in adult figure?
Was it exhausted by the search for truth?
Truth, what is it?
Is it found in flowers,
Or does each man write his own,
Sitting in a shady bower?
Truth, what is it?
Will I find it if I pray?
So many questions, and here I sit.
   Where is my muse today?
I stare out windows at the wasteland,
Rain sodden trees, stunted leaves, all
   Grey,
Life made of clay, and will, to
   Undersand,
Questions posed by a spring day.

Shadows On A Wall

Lived a thousand times over
Shadows of a ghost
By rote a dark endless play
Dancing on an empty wall.

Tennessee
Arthur Blank Mar 2021
It was a short trip anyways
But watching you
In the rear view
Has left me panged

Rain fall on windows
Like tears
I guess there's always
Next year

All my love
All my hope
Dissipates in
Tailpipe smoke

I Knew leaving I'd feel
This way
But I kissed you
Anyways

Well, I kiss you
And you kissed me
Too bad I have to leave
I guess we'll always have Tennessee.

Kiss Me
Arthur Blank Feb 2021
Your smile oft sings to me
And my love laden heart
A melody of melancholy
For if we do depart

No soaring sunrise
Between the
mountains high
No babling brook
In a Meadow bliss
Can bring me
Beauty I'd so
Madly miss
And lips to
Never again
Kiss.
Valentines day is coming you hopless romantics!!

To: Death
Arthur Blank Jan 2021
I have known since long ago
Souls are not made of flesh and bone
Not of muscle, sinew or tissue
That they are deeper and within you

They live beyond us mortal beings
And they see past the eye of seeing
That they endure more then life
With all its pain and all its strife

With them they carry our lifes lessons
And with time they never lessen
But grow stronger over time
Forever and eternally they will shine

When my body has grown old
My skin is not the story told
I will live forever
A debt my soul endeavors

When I'm gone do not miss me here
If your sad please do not shed a tear
Even Out of sight I'll be around
Whether above or below ground

So come the day that I may die
From deaths hand I will not hide

My lonlyness is
The empty bottle sitting
On the beds nightstand
Staring coldly back at me
The only picture of you.
My first stab at this form, haven't wrote in awhile so I just wrote what was on my mind.
Arthur Blank Dec 2020
Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
To come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now
Thought I'd see you one more time again

There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

Let tomorrow's tragedy
Not be the death of what we
So desperately need.

If love is a ocean
We'll Live on the coast and
Live off the passion we breathe.

When it all seems for nought
And I've given all I got
Leaving nothing to be sought,

Tomorrow come,
And you wish that I'm gone.
I'll chase the feeling for months

On ashes and whiskey
I'll wish that you miss me
Then I'll burn the part that you keep.

And live tomorrows tragedy
Of today's memory.

Autumn Mourning
Arthur Blank Sep 2019
Autumn is on the wind, the spirts
Of the sky have flown south, for
Winters breath has begun to bite. In
The cool damp air I can smell them,
The dying leaves, breezing ever
So gently past my feet, blown by
The reaping wind in rote. Yet,
Not one weeps for their passing.

It is only I who weeps for I know
The secret they keep hidden,
Cinched in amber and lurid hues.
I watch them as drift and sway,
Tumbling over one another to
their final resting place to die
forgotten. Each falling leaf,
A grain of sand, a second, hour,
Another moment closer to the
Cessation of our existence

The fleeing multitudes to
Many to hold on to.
This is one of those poems that, when you start you mean to go one direction but takes on another while writing. I meant for it to be longer piece but I felt I have said what I needed to. Any criticism would be appreciated. Thanks.

Winter Ashes.
Arthur Blank Sep 2019
Silver moon how you look tonight so blue,
Waning wistfully over winters ashes,
Reflecting that wan shade that is your hue.

Whispers of wind shake the barren branches,
A sordid symphony that sings so clear,
Your soft gentle voice, while above passes,

The restless clouds that shape to me the years;
Memories drifting by my moonlit room.
I loved once watching the falling snow here,

All is grey and I’ll be leaving here soon,
To forget your words, the world and this place,
Turn around down a new path and never look back.

Will it be vain? Even if I do pace,
The moon will cast always to me your face.
A sonnet.
