across the river
the trickle of what was once Grande
I see them, huddled in their adobe squares
as the sizzling sun settles quiescently
leaving them in shielded shadow

then come the cook fires,
for the maize, the frijoles,
smoking the night sky
filling their bellies, filling my eyes
with visions of them, some silent
some filled with mirth, and song
all with hope or fear

as the moon paints their crusty hillsides silver
some will lie with one another--some will join in longing,
liquid union, planting sweet sighed seeds of hope

others, alone, will fall into dread dreams,
while winds weep and mix with coyote howls
a few will even hear the owls call their names
though the gift of eternal darkness may yet be
light years from their wretched huts

I may be there
to see the sun rise again
and repeat life's one act play,
anon and anon, or something may close
my own tired eyes, before the glory of their suffering
can be played again
upon viewing the shanties of Juarez, Mexico, from the hills of El Paso, Texas
In the depths, watching, lurking
Duties to perform, never shirking
Drag them down, to the deep unknown
Drag them down, take their souls
Drag them down, make them pay
Drag them down, while far away
A mother lies
A child cries
For the boy
Oh, so young
Who wanted
To be
A
Pirate

17 Shattered skulls bobbing on an ocean of oil.
The crawling skin of sailer souls ready to recoil.

No more rigging 1 less oar.
Beast from the deep allowed to surface once more.

The crows nest falls the skies turn black.
Men overboard who are never coming back.

No more rigging 1 less oar.
Beast from the deep returns to the seabed once more.
"They admire us" a bucktoothed pirate
stinking liquor and wearing  clothes unwashed
straight for an year at least, beams
with such ill founded pride;
pirates are called other names
that sound ironically like accolades!
Protective Gods wielding punitive powers too,
on the other hand, did you notice,
are feared like autocratic patriarchs,
and hated secretly for their temper,
a long standing problem, this! a clear case of
warped  human imagination, I'd  guess
why not God almighty, find some time
to set right this one problem vexing us for so long!
So, I want to make them happy
with me
with themselves

But I think I'm a bit **** at it

Like a mother picking up scattered
toys, there's always another piece of
lego to step on, always another
stubborn stain, and whilst
clearing you have to
activate your brain
because any
moment
they
might
trip and hurt
themselves again.

And if they do, you know, irrationally, that
in yourself you'll find the blame.
You're really trying not to show the strain,
because it won't help,
it won't heal, instead
rub your very bruised heel and
steel yourself for the next storm, recall
the times you've thought I can't go
on

and remember that you did.

Don't kid yourself, the
kids are alright
and you are too, allow
yourself to be one too.

Youth, after all,
is in the mind.

Try, for yourself,
for them,
Be kind.

Whenever I ***** up,
I'd try to fix it.

And when it's all good,
I ***** it up again.

Because I'm never satisfied,
with myself and my work.

So I ruin it,
to start again.

Do you remember the simple times?
No worries, no pain, just simple glories
Of building the tallest and largest building
Just made out of bricks of colorful pieces

Each one sticking to one another
Piling up by color and size
You would put on a smile filled with pride
Whenever you finished every brick
on top another

But what did you do when you left
and came back
then all you’ve built
was broken and gone?

“Don’t cry, child, it was only legos,
time for the real thing now.”
was what you were told.
“This time, child,
don’t make your dreams
out of lego bricks.”

The loneliness set in
When I couldn't fall asleep
I had grown accustomed to
Steadying my mind
With thoughts of you

I laid awake
wandering my conscious
Dragging myself away from you
No, not dragging, walking

Away from something
I once needed
But can no longer stand
No longer rest my head on
When the loneliness sets in
Still have writers block. Whhhyyyyyyyy...
(Slams head to keys in frustration.)
