"jody" poems
sit down, pen and paper scrape together, come up with something clever.                                                                                               blank mind stare at the paper-don't doodle! holding your head in your hand is not writing- supposed to be writing all of these skillfully woven thoughts that should be bursting forth, but aren't. stop spell checking, do it later. maybe that's the answer:                                      automatic writing OK go into trance let the pen and hand dance. don't think, let the ink flow from the inside to the surface, you're thinking on purpose...stop it! OK this is obviously not working, it's just jerking off and it doesn't even feel good, although it should. Come up with a subject, not abstract thought...wait...thought has no place here. where is the Muse? I'll blow a fuse if I don't get to use a clever phrase I turned today. what about childhood walks in the woods, first love, real love, not in-puppy-love with Jody Foster! during the day all the stuff that's enough to fill a book gets wasted and lambasted. I'm mad as hell and here I sit broken hearted did my time and only started three hours ago. could have taken a tour by now and, holy cow!, the Tao probably took less time to write than this night of the living dead man with two pinky and the brains. where the hell am I going with this clap trap? this is out of hand, out of mind-otherworldly. is this all that i am:                                     meaningless gobbeldy-gook I'm getting spooked. it's time to stop and drop the needle on a different track, stop the attack sit back relax choose to lose my senses, dulled and lulled into false pretenses, mend some fences with myself, or else. Or else, what? Not contemplate, deliberate, speculate, ruminate, investigate, radiate...KNOCK IT OFF! Just put the pen down, get up, walk out of the room.

Some very good friends sat around in their basement I think we've all been here before The room of course was smokey and wasted The four buddies were bored right out of their gourds They all thought they should do something special So they decided to build a rocket ship Throwing a bunch of old plywood together They then sat around, smoked some more, and planed their spacey trip Jody spoke up first and said let's go to the moon But they'd heard that had already been done That's when he came up with the brightest idea I know what! We'll go to the sun! Go to the sun?! We may be high but we're not crazy!! They replied, this ships made out of wood That's when Jody explained his brilliant idea Nodding like Bobble Head dolls they all understood As Jody dug deeper into his intricate plan All the guys seemed to like it a lot They would go when it's dark in the middle of night When the suns put out and it isn't so hot Since Jody's the genius, they put him in charge He seems to have a grasp on what's left of his brain There were four of them but only room for two They drew straws 'cause they were having difficulty remembering their names The straws turned out to be the same length Cutting them, somebody forgot So they picked Jody as their Captain Kirk And Jason as his sidekick Spock Out in left field, the excitement was contagious Jody yelled, 'To infinity and Beyond' They knew that quote came from some famous movie But had a memory lapse so they gave him more Bobble Head nods At that point they realized they had no engine Being impaired, not a one of them cared They all went back down into the basement And took another kind of trip without going anywhere

Prom. I'm not Pretty In Pink. I'm not Cinderella at the ball. List of saving graces: My dad slipped me drugs during the father-daughter dance; I had my best friend to help me the whole night. Insights: my principle was a ******* the sight of Jody during a panic-attack makes my world spiral & fall down a million shattered glass hills, the no-escape land where chests turn into cages & clench lungs so hard they can't make full breaths & hands turn into ADHD fire ants, pushing and & twisting skin until raw, scratching necks and arms nervously & don't mind the drawn blood, sweetie. Where politics & family trees go on forgotten & why did they send HER heroutgetherout I can't do this Tom. Where I'm backed up in a corner & I'm stuck in the no-escape land. Clastrophobia; why are all these people around me? Swarming me. Incessant little panic bees swirling constantly touching always "don't ******* touch me!!" & Tom is raising his voice at them; I can hear the volume and the sheer chaotic amount of noise but can't distinguish the words. &then; the panic bees file & march forward, nothing to see here, folks. "It's just me & you," he's telling me "they don't matter" & he's looking at me & then the breathing concentrations & the pain in my throat & the chest loosens a bit & I can feel the pulled muscles all over me & I can climb up the glass hills & the shakes? Oh, they don't stop for a looong while.

for most of us our first love song was written in the middle of a first grade day, between reading and math class where instead of 1+1=2 it was you+i=forever even though forever was an apple sauce after dinner and a kiss on the forehead of your loving mother heartbreak was the next day when you realized that each day at lunch time would be an opportunity the universe would offer up a chance at a tear or two in front of an unforgiving school, in front of the first girl you'd hate forever even though forever was a game of catch and a nice long talk about girls with your loving father forgiveness was so much easier in the days before body hair and friday night despair, when you could sit on your wooden chair and carve next to Jody's name her replacement for most of us our first love song was written in the middle of a first grade day, between recess and time to go home, where instead of 1+1=2 it was you+i= forever

our first love song
i think that a long time ago you told me that you thought i was cute but that was only after i said it first maybe i looked too far into it maybe i thought oh maybe he wants to date maybe he wants to kiss me or hold my hand or make mix tapes but i think i was just looking too far into things but maybe that's what we're supposed to do my english teacher made us read their eyes were watching god and she said that jody wanted to be high above everyone else and that's why he stood up on the box when he lit the streetlight that he had bought maybe he wanted to be above everybody else but maybe that was because he'd always been below someone ya know?

You are the sun, You are the moon. You outshine all the stars, You float around like a pretty tune. I see your weaknesses behind your smile, How you accept your faults knowing it’s all worthwhile. Don’t let your worries take over and drown you, Let them paint your canvas, See the chance of something new.

How I feel right now doesn’t matter. ‘Cause I’ll say I’m ok. Yet still I’m wondering why do you love me? It feels... I feel so out of place. I know you’re looking for answers lovie But I don’t know what to say to you. I’m holding, dearly, my bad emotions. Last night in the shore we killed that scene. Whatever I was feeling it. Now my alarm clock wakes from the dream And reality’s back, I gotta deal with it. All of these strangers became new friends. New stories wrote with old pens. Same picture seen with a new lens. But that was only for the weekend. Drunk nights get remembered more than sober ones. I just can’t remember how the night begun. Order up, I don’t know from where these drinks came, But I know that I remember those strippers by their real names. Jody? Maxine? It’s all the same, they were pawns in my fantasy. Damn….did I say that? I’m just lost and I’m tryna find my way back. But instead I found my way into your bed Now I’m thinking about everything you whispered in my head like “I been searching for you my whole life.” “I think I wanna be your wife.” And none of that even computes. I can’t imagine me settling down, laying the roots. I gotta slip out of here before You wake up and read the note I left on your drawer. ‘Cause I know you’ll be full of questions And I’ll have to be real and give you my confession That I know you’re looking for answers lovie But I don’t know what to say to you. I’m holding, dearly, my bad emotions.

Her tears soak my shoulder As her grip grows ever tight Her daddy got a new job No longer working longest nights I utter just a sniffle As my hand glides along her back So much more than a friend Is leaving on those steel train tracks That moment drags on forever As she reminds me what we've been through And abruptly she grabs her things and leaves And I'll never get the chance to say "I love you" Goodbye Jody
