Stars
 May 2017 ester
Sarah
The stars are out tonight
I gaze at them from my yard
My hair spread out on the grass
My mind races
Focused on how far away these glittering lights are
An entire universe is out there
But it was not made for me
I am small
But can a light still burn inside me?
Especially if I feel so dark?
I like to think we are all stars
And astronomers at the same time
Searching for our place in the galaxy
Will you be a star with me?
With you I no longer feel dimmed
Can you let me illuminate your world?
I’ve been pulled in by your gravity
There’s no way to leave your orbit now
Even if I wanted to

the weight of you

I close my eyes and feel the sun come untucked from the clouds,
bleeding blood orange through my eyelids.

No one really knows you and I the way we know our footsteps,
coming home across wood floors late at night.

The way we used to sit on windowsills,
or crosslegged across from one another on your bed.

Our arms sank into the crevices of one another,
I wanted to feel the weight of you to crush me,
if only just to feel the peace of the street.

I think,
at the moment
you could make up a song and i'd know it
inside out
immediately,
you wouldn't have to spend time
teaching me the chorus
i'd know what to say
and more
with aplomb, it sings:
let's discuss how our impromtu is ace
and how we
may have found
a tad of place.
Yeah.

Waiting place

Wind along the desolate, stone cold, ages old, beaten path to me.
Find me in a waiting place, far removed
from what I knew,
waiting here for you.
Recognize the blood shot eyes
the creeses made those days ago when you had walked away.
And find me in this waiting place
Waiting
Here
For
You

She was painted in the colors he desired.
She was heaven to him, breathtaking and beautiful.
The moonlight in her eyes and the words she spoke touched him.
She was like a fine painting framed in his heart.

In retrospect,

the nicest part
of that whole afternoon—

what with that summer sunlight,
cascading down onto the sward

where you and I
sat in the deep shade of a noble oak tree—

the nicest part
of that whole afternoon—

what with that dignified roar from Yosemite Falls
resounding throughout the valley

and those songbirds chirping out a perfect counterpoint
in the immediate foreground,

the nicest part
of that whole afternoon—

what with the dry dirt of that flawlessly unkempt
softball field warming our bare toes,

and those children playing—
their shadows ever lengthening—
in that eternal Eden…

In retrospect,

the nicest part
of that

entire

afternoon

was getting to spend it
with you.

Two tickets, for a train to down under.
Take me with you, for my birth was a blunder.
Walking as blind energy, from day to day.
Giving up the hope to pray, as I lay,
Myself down, in my self-inflictions,
False predictions and true addictions,
Resist the urge, as I stand by the kitchen drawer.
I'm feeling sore, playing with my demons more and more,
They lied to me, until I finally fell to the floor.
Father, why didn't you do it when you had the chance?
I've asked God many times to put it in his hands.
I suppose, it is not my time to escape,
As I ask the reaper to open his gates.
The next stop, could be 5 or 50 years away,
Everyday, I wish it was yesterday.
Everyday, I pray it could be today.
What do you do, without the courage,
To use your own hand, and all greater forces,
Are against your wicked plan?
You walk as blind energy, from day to day.
Giving up the hope to pray, as you lay,
Yourself down,
In  your self-inflictions,
False predictions and true addictions.
Resisting the urge, as you stand by the kitchen drawer.
