Hold on to your pride.
Clutch it like a mask
On a diving, burning plane.
Only let go when you're alone,
Screaming as the altitude drops,
Cold reality seeping in around you.
Everything is falling, and you are mortal.
You will finish in the same place
As everyone else.
You will breathe your last breath
As everyone else.
You will have regrets and questions
As everyone else.
Get ready to come down here
With everyone else.

Heart, fragile
 May 2017 ester

Take your heart and wrap it in fine silk.
Love elegantly like candle-lit dinner and aged wine.
Slow dance to jazz or juke box
Until your body memorizes every step
to the beat of hearts loving.

But do not forget to guard that fragile thing.
Remind yourself that your heart is too precious
To be broken easily by unworthy knights.

No, stop don't do it
"why?"
You're gonna mess up
You're gonna fail
What makes you think you are good enough
what makes you think you are worth it?
"oh, I guess I don't know"
of course you don't know because what do you know
"why are you being like this, who are you?"
I'm just telling the truth
Im just being realistic here
all you do is mess up,
all you do is annoy,
and how do I know all of this?
because my dear I am you.

-My mind, my thoughts, every single day.

pretend

Kee
why should i pretend that you haven't hurt me
that i haven't hurt you
that we haven't hurt us
why should we pretend that what we had was golden when we both know that we screamed all night and we cried our hearts out trying to make it work
knowing it would fail
but we made it ours
although it is no longer
it feels good to know
that you don't have to pretend anymore
you can love with someone else without pretending
i'm not there yet
i'm still hanging on
just a bit longer
missing how it feels to pretend

your mouth tastes of dying oceans
looking back i never thought i'd see the end
of a storm that's about to break in
your lips made a home
