The morning dew kisses
Yearning leaves,
As the first rays of the sun
Bring me relief.
Flowers bloom
In the month of March,
Chirping birds hum
rhythms that recharge.
And with the first sight
of your arching face,
I fall back into
teen ways.

I wish I didn't think about you,
In the middle of the night.
I wish I didn't care for you,
Like you don't care for me.
I wish there were different obstacles
Between you and I, that I may overcome.
I wish you hated me,
Because then I wouldn't get to see your smiles.
I wish you loved me,
But that's asking too much.
I wish I were a better person,
Who could be someone trustworthy.
I wish I didn't feel guilty,
But I deserve the anguish that accompanies it.
I wish.
I wish I could be the man you deserved,
But it's impossible.
I wish you cared about me,
Even when I know it's better that you don't.
I wish I could spoil you,
And tell you what you mean to me.
I wish you'd be open and receptive,
Though I know it is impractical.
I wish

Kissin’ ’n’ buzzin’
by Michael R. Burch

Kissin’ ’n’ buzzin’
the bees rise
in a dizzy circle of two.
Oh, when I’m with you,
I feel like kissin’ ’n’ buzzin’ too!

I’m disappointed
you whisper
your strong hands
wrapped tightly
around my waist
as I wiggle out
of your grasp
not wanting this
moment to end
but knowing it
must before the
guards come by

I’m disappointed
I moan
as I realize
these few
fleeting moments
of perfection
comforted by
your touch
high from
your presence
were only
in my
dreams

I’m disappointed
though I have
one more chance
to see you
to talk to you
to place my
hand on your
broad shoulder
a supportive touch
to you
a loving touch
to me
I can never
tell you
about this
dream

Your heart
is pure gold
a treasure
hard to
uncover
but when
I touch you
it is as if
the gold has
disappeared

-Help me to want your treasure

What Goes Around, Comes
by Michael R. Burch

This is a poem about loss
so why do you toss your dark hair—
unaccountably glowing?

How can you be sure of my heart
when it’s beyond my own knowing?

Or is it love’s pheromones you trust,
my eyes magnetized by your bust
and the mysterious alchemies of lust?

Now I am truly lost!

I have walked in this city
Calmly lethal, it is electricity —
Do I, dear heart whisper it to my head
That you will yet again on this path tread?
Current ripples run through my spine.
How do I defend your irregular beats
The deafening crescendo and the mercurial
Diminuendo hand-made by the shock
Of this very hour?

You had seen her before dear heart
The butterflies were just eggs
Did they grow in gloom of the night?
For the voltage flies like a kite
I have walked in this perplexity
Deja vu! It gags my spirit —
You will break again and she will
Take her share of the shard like others,
Run, and leave me in shock!.
Contemplating the risks of a new beginning

Feasting my eyes on beauty of yours
all of my senses drinking you in
like a man starving craves for his course
like a man thirsty gulps down his gin

I can feel your eyes
slowly shedding layers off my skin.

I can see your twitching hands,
all about to find the beast within.

Leaning into you,
my breath slowly reaching your ears,

whispering obscenities
you could have only ever heard in your wildest dreams.
The quarantine is doing a number on me.

Fascination with Light
by Michael R. Burch

Desire glides in on calico wings,
a breath of a moth
seeking a companionable light,

where it hovers, unsure,
sullen, shy or demure,
in the margins of night,

a soft blur.

With a frantic dry rattle
of alien wings,
it rises and thrums one long breathless staccato

and flutters and drifts on in dark aimless flight.

And yet it returns
to the flame, its delight,
as long as it burns.

There's a longer version of "Fascination with Light" that adds the following stanza:

And still it returns on incessant wings—
ruthless grey monarch of the night air.
It flutters and stares
with huge primitive eyes, and it sees
beyond ruinous nights
to all the loveliness inherent there;
and it sings all the hideous despair
of its unworthiness, in a frenzy of wings;
and its desolate womb holds incurled in silk
the husks of dread kings and pale lovers.
