Is a life free of pain; no hunger for hope,
all that it enticingly seems?
Or is there more found in victory over a noose & a rope,
That could never be by achieving the highest of dreams?

Rainy Days
Rachel Feb 2018
Rainy days have come again;
Seems that they do not have an end.
For even when the sun is shining,
I see no silky silver lining.
Even when the sky is blue,
It seems a dull and darkened hue.
Even when the birds are singing,
I hear a haunted, hollow ringing.
Through pseudo smiles; lying laughter,
No hope of, ‘happily ever after.’
Since I have pushed you far away,
The rainy days are here to stay.

Indifference
Rachel Feb 2018
The opposite of love, is indifference.
Not anger, aversion, or hate.
Accompanied by avoidant-detachment,
And a silence that never abates.

It can disguise itself in diffidence;
Depressed by misery, for score.
Sheltering who practice its persuasion,
But leaving its victim longing for more.

It looks like a promise that’s broken,
It sounds like the melody of a lie.
It tastes like a cocktail & bitters;
It feels like a passion that died.

You can’t see the damage from the outside;
The wounds that scar from within.
Until they manifest as an addiction,
Or any overt kind of sin.

Love faces the toughest of battles;
Love outshines even the sun.
Indifference regards nothing higher;
And indifference will perpetually run.

I told you I wouldn’t remember
If it was real life or a dream
And just as I predicted
Memory is ripping its own seams.

I chose you,
But you didn’t chose me.
Maybe freewill
Negates meant to be.

To My Father
Rachel Oct 2017
I’m not good with words, but,
you’re the pumpkin in my pie.
The cherry on top of my banana split;
The apple of my eye.

I’m not good with words, but
you’re the sunshine in my sky.
The heart shaped clouds all floating around;
The little blue bird flying high.

I’m not good with words but,
you’re the melody of a lullaby
The best of memories and times we’ve had;
The celebration to my Fourth of July,

I’m not good with words, but
I love you so much I could cry.
You’re the greatest father who ever lived;
And you’ll always be my guy.

Fighting For A Soul
Rachel Feb 2016
“No regrets.”

Isn’t that what the greats' vision implied before they gave everything?
The more important matter; did the dream stay through the battle-
Or did their lives end in wishes for a time machine?

“All You Need Is Love.”

Did the Beatles really mean that?
Or did they mean
“All You Need Is Drugs.

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”*

Is that truth?
Or is the reality in the bigger picture?
Romeo and Juliet weren’t honestly star-crossed lovers.
They were name-crossed lovers.
Montagues and Capulets don’t mix.

Or…
do they*?

The Best
Rachel Feb 2016
If you're staring at a screen right now;
If this moment's brought you here
There's at least a 1 in 7 billion chance,
That I hold you highest, dear.

I haven't put you on a pedestal;
Nor found a friend more true.
Not a soul could take your place-
You are the one and only you.

I'll never be able to repay the comfort,
Or the joy you've given me.
My only hope in sweet return
Is reminding you of beautiful simplicity.

Back to the days we laughed til we cried;
When we had no heartaches or cares.
Nothing that bothered us any more
Than what we decided on to wear.

I miss the times we felt so free;
I took for granted those nights.
Take now for granted, I will no longer
I swear to keep the present in sight.

Life has enough to complicate
Without needing help from us two...
So I'll do what I may to make nostalgia stay,

To be your best friend, Kaitlyn Lou.
For the best human I'll always believe I will ever know.

Thoughtless phrasing for shallow trouble; you know nothing of the gravity of life.

Sarcasm, does not become you.

Message To My Heart
Rachel Jan 2016
Somewhere deep inside of my deceitful heart,
Is a belief of one right woman; one right man.

So why can't I make this beating apparatus understand?

Your time will come.
When it does,
He won't treat you like a one night stand.

He'll hold you softly with sweet respect.
He won't be thinking about what he can steal from you next.
With every pulse of love, he'll guard you.
He'll make you forget the ones that scarred you.
You wont know when you've met him by the beats that you skip.
You'll know by the beginning of a strong sense of friendship.

He'll be chasing God's heart.
Just as David was so graciously accused;
And you, oh heart, must be so lost in Jesus

You'll barely notice being pursued.

Waiting isn't forever; you weren't meant to flatline.
But if you can't be quiet, deceitful heart of mine...
You'll focus on the wrong things; you'll be destructive to yourself.

So while we wait,
*Go sit upon that shelf.

You hesitated
I silently waited

You went.

Who am I?
Rachel Jul 2015
Who am I to say that she isn't your one?
Who am I to say that it isn't meant to be?
Who am I to say that it was premature,
And that you weren't ready for a family?

Im just the girl you promised all of that to
The one that for everything, you never followed through.
Im the girl who walked to hell and back a time or two
But who am I to say she's wrong for you?

Jesus

All You've done, and all You do;
You make everything brand new.
You give me hope of a love that's true;
I owe my all, my life, to You.

The Dream
Rachel Jun 2012
Last night I had a dream
so to see if it were true,
this morning when I woke
I almost telephoned you.

My fingers knew the number,
but my heart forgot the words..
so when you answered and asked who it was,
silence was all you heard.

Sometimes I wish that you were here
to make my dreams more real
but then I remember all of the pain
that you always made me feel.

I guess it is for the better
that we are still apart
I thought my mind had accepted that
until in my dream, again, you broke my heart.

I wish you'd rhyme for me.
Rachel Jun 2012
I'm fascinated at your thoughts
They cross mine all the time
I can't wait for the things you say
whether in a text or in a rhyme.

To be in love with someone's looks,
is a common thing I'm told;
but to love to the very deepest part
is to love another's soul.

And so I love with a love so strong
that binds me to a prayer,
that maybe one day you'll rhyme for me
instead of someone who doesn't care.

You over Him
Rachel Jun 2012
All the time I spend with him,
is time that my mind spends with you.
Always when I kiss his lips,
my mind I almost lose.

The beauty in your lonesome words
Brings rhythm to my soul,
and all the while I'm speaking with him,
the warmth of your smile grows cold.

If I had the choice to choose,
it's you I'd want with me;
but still I'm here, wishing you were near
to softly whisper to me.

So wait I will until the day
I leave him to be with you,
and hope that you can forgive my past
because I'm not in love with him, but you.
