father...brother....son
mark john junor Jul 2014
there is a cold echo of time in the photographs
the clustered figures in uniform with haunted eyes
they each had a gas mask and a gun
could have been alive this very moment
with such familiar features...a father....brother...son

a hundred years ago they began yet another war
another bloodletting for
a game of brinksmanship of the powers that be
thousands of young men littered on a field
died in a gas attack is the simple phrase beneath
you can almost feel the concussion of the shells landing
hear the wiz of the bullets as the past so near at hand

these young men gas masks in hand
looking into the cameras lens with such horror
things too terrible to speak of in their eyes
father....brother...son

a hundred years later
the papers are filled with pictures
of shells landing in the gaza
armed men clustered round a
jet airliners wreckage in the ukraine
children running from a burning village in africa
we have learned nothing
father....brother...son
i am sorry we have all failed you
failed to cease all this useless warring
all this bloodletting
father....brother....son

up here in her bed
mark john junor Dec 2013
the shadows are long on the wooden floor
i can see the etchings of every weary foot
that has sought rest in this place at worlds end
there's a mist forming where the sun is burning off the rainwater
and the light is getting golden
that kind of glow that romances every face
that makes even the darkest night
seem comforting
her dress clings to her shoulder with a fine sweat
and her eyes cast down till i cup her chin
and she looks up at me
and thats all iv ever needed
the shadows are making inroads to making me sleep
so we step outside
and i gently pass my hand over her face
and her whisper clings to me
like a softly spoken hurricane
she leads me to the bed
and pulls me down into her scented arms
down into the sweet darkness of her love affair
and i am filled with the sounds of my
triumph and submission all at once
a sound like a hard race car engine
with the sigh of an old man
like the sound of a mid summer moon
high up in a warm forgiving sky
far above all the toil and mud
up here in her bed
in her arms
watching the shadows of the sun make
inroads to darkness
in a south florida motel room
a rain storm is comin

the hall walker
mark john junor Oct 2013
the hall walker slides along the wall
one hand brushing the cheap paint
his thin vacant face
etched in a shallow gasping for breath caricature
the hall walkers drifting steps
are across the carpets patterns
but no one objects
his neat and clean golf pro outfit
still clings to its filthy rich beginnings
suede leather faces
and the disdain they project

the hall walker has paused
to announce his desire to be on his way
to the blank wall
a poster nearby grins down at his madness
with a fateful message about condoms
lest the madness spread no doubt
he raises his voice
but to no avail
the wall remains ignorant

but we are far from alone
me and the hall walker
a stream of faces
the tight lipped impaired people
come in waves through the hall
like a strange tidal basin of the medical world
the floaters and driftwood
the gathers of shells
and thouse who seek to hide inside them still
this odd place of the infirm

a dozen bent forms
pushing canes
and mounted on wheelchairs
slowly fold the hallway
with the repeated ebb and flow
of their travels
the low electric sound of their hover-rounds
like meat grinders digesting a daily dose
putter past in steady stream
a nightmare vision of what awaits
the hall walker stops to ponder
the fate of his domain
his hall is no longer his kingdom
and they now shoo him into rooms
or out the door
rather than let him walk the line
between dark and light
that is the way the world decides

the hall walker
pressed his golf shoe
into the soft dirt of wet night
and smiled clean and real
recalling the scent
and releasing his grip
he follows the young nurse to bigger and better halls
to walk the wall

so rich and thick all these things i'm feelin
makes my head spin when your near me
such a strange dance we do as lovers
the poke and run
tickle and fight
laugh and cry
you talk to me of wonderland to be
i say to you obscure tales of things that were
you revolve around me in a parking lot
rollerskating round my bicycle
kiss round my speaking
what a strange dance lovers do
i see how happy you are
showing off engagement ring
showing off your own private personal poet
little girls wish
romance thats all dreadlocks and naked fun
thats all beautiful things
come with me baby lets run real fast neath the soft trees
come with me lets go find some spot we can
roll in the grass and kiss round eachother
we can find that moment when we
tickle and fight
laugh and cry
do the lovers dance with all the haste of eager youth
with all the desire of old lovers knowin eachother pleasures
do the lovers dance
all fingers, lips...
soft caress hard...
kiss round eachother

sea and sand

just the outline remains
like a silhouette of happiness faded
like a footprint of a past joy
in the dusk cannot perceive where it has gone
only mark its point of passage
in the soft cold sand
where the brittle rough edge of concrete
juts out from the tangled undergrowth
now just a rain soaked ruin
now just discarded shell someone called home

the rotted planks and shattered glass
litter the ground a maze of pieces
like some lunatics puzzle box
spread for contemplation's amusement
there amongst the jewels of rot
a single small face etched in the grey weatherbeaten stone
the detailed portraiture done with
adorations care
a young woman with long hair flowing
a young woman with captivating smile
now fading slowly in tropical sun
etched on the worlds edge
here amongst the spoiled walls
and broken windows

moonlight now casts its otherworldly light
down through the torn roof
like it is fishing here for mens dreams
which it hungers for
to speed it on its journey
i cast it the morsels of my once loved
i cast it a trail of hearts crumbs
which the moonlight follows on down
the silent street
like a small boy returning home late in the day
with a pocket full of strange treasures

i lay here fitfully dreaming
as mornings heat intensifies to full blown day
jaundiced by the seabreeze i crawl forth
and sit once again
to stare at the etching of the girl
as it is slowly eaten by sea and sand
time may not heal all wounds
but it will consume all the wounded
as it consumed her

undeniable lust for love
mark john junor Oct 2017
A single page of her
fills her lover's world
ardent appetite to be cradled like the
adoration of a mortal unexceptional goddess
who sometimes has high-heeled shoes of clay
leaves her and her lover to waver among
joys shared blissfully diffused by tears shed quietly
A single page of her is written
with the fundamental spirit of a lust for love
an ambition to live loves dream
which is central to every man and woman's heart
A single page of her is provender for the soul
with a common language of immortal romantic notions

A single page of her
just a human being
a lover of another human being
just an exceptional love within an uncomplicated heart
a softly written cage open to lights of loving warmth

A single word of her
fills the canvas with brilliant colors
takes on the shapes of this feverish love affair
takes on the hue's of these hearts at ease
that wrestle each other's naked souls
then cleave to each other with a dire thirst
A single word of her statuesque illustration
histories and futures softly spoken in the animated night
expressions of this average celestial throne
this world of exceptionally average simple beauties
A single word of hers
that I have never actually heard
but knowing its there unspoken in her eyes
just a human being

A single picture of her
fills a poet's hands with rich verse
words laden with potent essence within their expression
as wild as the wind in the deepest part of the rain
as enriched as breathing exaltation and splendor
her photograph pasted to the mirror's edge
as if she were a reflection of dreams
as if perfection had a name
A single picture of her
embroidered by a light that shines
only from some souls
a warmth that greets every passing stranger
an intensity that verges on fire

A single moment of her time
leaves impressions upon you that will breathe within you
growing in the remembrance
like roses upon the vine
interwoven and lovely in the warm light
just a human being
but she will always be
just Kristen

spiral faces
mark john junor Oct 2013
his loudspeaker thinking
shot through my eye
as he passes me in the crowded room
its over-speed thought process painted on his sweating face
he fingers loudly the moist pages of his life
wishing to replay the better moments
but just like everyone else
cant relive the moment
but you can live in
the pain of its regret for the rest of your life
if that's what you want
he's a follower of the herd
he sits with with them
and pantomimes their moves with precision

she sits in the exact centre
of the same corner each day
making notes of the coming and goings
and draws the faces
the funny faces
spiral notebooks full of faces
her glasses held together with scotch tape
her mind held together with
reruns of nineteen seventies sitcoms
and heavy medications
she is lonely but will never admit it
she watches him
and wonders

at the days end
she convinces him to walk her home
and together
they set out hand in hand
the sky and world around them a tourist picture perfect whitewash
he fingers her medicated mind
prying out the soft meat
looking for the dark stuff that tastes
like chicken
her misfire engines let him get only so deep
before her childhood memories
of a beautiful blue dress
and a apple pie brings enough
reality to his palate to end his fascination

they will end up married
because being misfit is better than
being alone

passionless woods
mark john junor Jun 2013
the lazy fool walks slowly along the path
one hand rests comfortable on the instrument of
his own sense of sensibility
but its feared by all behold him
and his carnival of tricksters

my dream walk along the sand
and she sings a small tune she knows so well
one that leaves stains on the soul
like the trademarks of obscene merchants
its a destiny that cavorts along the easiest line
path of least resistance
but denying her was never in my strong suite
it always leads to madness
but that's least of my worries on this thick summer night

drunk with possibility's
the lazy fool
chases us thru the tidal basin
and into the passionless woods
where lovers get lost
among the plagiarism of their hearts
and the thieves of the tender
my dream spends her days
rescuing the misbegotten from that forest of misfortune

no time to waste on this fool
we disarm him of his his instruments
he cannot manipulate the past as easy
as he dose with the future
and we all see finally
that hes the same one we elected last year
and all the years behind that we have suffered
time to find salvation in sending him packing

so leaving all
the lovers to their own mercy
the fool will be forsaken
and we can have some peace at last

Ode to be a cold foot
mark john junor Sep 2022
Wrapped in the warm
prison of the bedsheets
a cold foot sneaks past
and dangles in the air at the
end of the bed

I shiver like sailors of old
in this cold wind that blows
across my toes

I wrestle the blanket
for the sleep it maintains
all elbows and thumbs
****** this way and that
restless wanderers of designer sheets

I shiver like sailors of old
in this cold wind that blows
across my toes

As I grumble
look to the clock
Four AM glares back at me
a cold foot wiggles
a cold foot waggles
Ode to be a cold foot
sorrowful tale to be sure

I shiver like sailors of old
in this cold wind that blows
across my toes

never truly lived
conversations that should have been
love made but never shared
the branches silhouette against the night sky

as the web woven by branches and leaves
gives slow silent birth to a tree in dawns
revealing light

with a careful hand she worried them
hours like a silent moving contemplation
she worked her way from one end of
the massive machine to the other
knowing every rivet
every dent and scratch
the hot steam leaving a sheen of sweat on her
the machines labored breathing filled her ears
alive to her she spoke to it
in a loving soft whisper
she felt the gauges and levers
with the familiarity of mother and child
knew its every creak and groan
with the heart of unconditional loving care
a steam engine is a living thing
a breathing feeling entity

the moments between
they are the deeper ones
they contain oceans
they move mountains
and it was one such moment
looking into her eyes
the world paused
and everything else was lost from
heart and thought
but her eyes
her lips
i did not breath
i just immersed myself in her
the taste of her perfume on the spring night air
the song of her soft skin wrapped in cotton jeans
the raptures of her eyes as i lost myself in them
like drowning in sweet beauty
like breathing a whole world in one breath
like beauty's true face expressed in
the simplistic complexity's of her
i felt her presence like a wave
breaking over me
breaking parts of me
i just inhaled and held my breath
not wanting her moment to end
not wanting to loose that perfection of her
to the world's fast hand
to loose the chance once again
to reach out and....
but the moment was gone before it began
probably no more than trickery of the eye
but for that one brief...
for that moment between...
i held her and knew what it was like to
love her

they pause in collecting
all the eyes upon them in mason jars
to resell on the boardwalk by the seaside
to the tourists so they will only glimpse what they
will want to sightsee

you tell them that you had borrowed
your buick and a rose colored jacket
from a ribald singer from the ancient city
and her beard confused you into believing
that her favors are something rare and fine
like bone china from from Florida south coast

all the world a better place

and your step is light and full of imagined stars and sparkles
as the couple in the next room violently kiss
they are into the world and to them
the world is into them
laugh as hard as you can
laugh till you cry
the world takes no notice
she sings softly to you
please mister lean in a little closer
and comfort thouse who need it

the night is full of people
out strolling and laughing under summer stars
and a penny whistle player keeps the tune going
while she sings a ballad she heard in the far west
and dont it seem like nights like this are so perfect that
you could wrap em up and send em out for Christmas

the poster perfect girls all fall asleep
in a soft warm pile benith the moon
and you unload your burdens and lay there too
in the beautiful company
as the penny whistle player turns to a stronger tune
that gives you dreams of the sea
of the time you spent nailing Captain Kidd to the floor
and now hes one of your best friends
this life is a dream
and while its not always what we'd want
it never gets dull
she sings softly to you
please mister lean in a little closer
and make the dream true

the expanding shadows of my depleted day

trying to gain purchase on my

but the past is a parody of the now
with all the same actors playing different roles
and i know who will let me
slip unnoticed out the stage door
while the drunkard nightwatchman
sings sea shanties and laments the poorboy pay

out the door and up the alley
and skate along the thieves highway looking for treasures
with the maiden of dumpsterdivers in tow
she is carrying little red riding hood on a waitress's salary
but the two of em love eachother
so the three of us make scary bandit faces
and go on and on about how we don't
need no stinkin' badges
the alley treats us all to a few jems
and more stinky socks than a reformed
cheerleader like little red riding in the hood
can shake a stick at

by the time i shuffle back to
my home on the shooting range
don quixote had turned off the lights
and driven off in his VW bug
the band had packed its gear
and the bartender was three sheets to the wind
all i could do to mend my own fences
was sing old cowboy songs at a winter moon

fleetfoot to from the greasy lock of hair
to the itchy feet looking to travel
its all just another day under strange skies
we all got questions
but few got answers
i just got a pocket full of dust
and a pair of running shoes
so here i go....

her fathers furry coat
mark john junor Apr 2014
her father scraped his way across
the wooden floor
hauling his dead weight of rages
and cursing the libel that landed him here
he paused labouring his breath
like a dying steamtrain running on empty
and shuffled on when his labours ceased
his furry coat knotted with the tangles of his mind

she followed him carrying his bowl
of shapeless meats and shifting rices
a cold meal for his hard hands
and as he sat down to break that bread
he commenced to wailing at the rising of the sun
and the falling of the stars
spitting around mouthfuls he catalogued the woes
as she waited there by the shoulder of his
heavy mule skin jacket
with her eyes nailed to the floor

later while he slept
out back by the rain barrel
she and i did romance in quiet whispered tones
she in her best blue dress
me in my finest spanish leathers
we talked and held hands while the stars gave condolences
we kissed like two virgins tentative and shy
she with her golden hair and fancy lace
me with my dark eyes and mystic words

as dawn came she slipped away
with murmurs of regrets like soft kisses
each one so close to the last they came together as a single tear
and let slip of my hand like a farewell
as inside we could hear her father climbing
up out of his pale slumbers
like the driver of deaths carriage whipping
the grey horse's of doom
drive on drive on you fools lest you be found lacking

we each bid her father good morning
and his return was cheerful delights
as he saddled his ponderous thoughts on his mare
and set off to the seaside
in search of his galleons wreck
spend his day picking coins from the sand
and choking back tears for his labours
she will sit with me in the palms shades
and swing me a sweet song
with a melody like rain
and lyrics about the sun
we are a strange sight to see i'm sure
but the only vision we have is of eachother
and its a warm palace full of joys
among the towers and fabled roads of fiveashes

(the part of her father was played by our cat 'lizard')

faint scratching sounds as
ink bleeds to page

images surface along the edge
of dreamlike state
folding back the breathing waters
of each thought speaking its own true nature

a language i cannot utter
except with my clumsy hand
except with my tears

each page its own song
with heroes and villains
tragedy and triumph
each image a crafted love story
between poet and word

twist along each trail
loosing oneself to the creation
tear away the bonds
that hold you steadfast in life
this place transcends mere life
this place is redemption

i weep at the fading image
as the poem closes
so little time to grasp all it showed me
and my hand so inadequate
my words fail to express

her languid face stirs slowly
from its lines
and within it harbours an echo of alarm
as the thoughts like distant thunderstorm that rises on the sky
awaken within her

fleeting moments chase each other across her eye
each one bearing the weight of meaning a little further
than the last until the final one gasping
and sweating it lay its burden to a fitful rest
on the doorpost of her denials
like a blood stained accusation
like a scarlet letter

she greases her hands to the task
and works muscle and bone against the tide
but it is a idea birthed in folly
it is a concept of true lies

harrowing tales regaled around table
of men who strove and men who wept
thouse who slipped benith the waves
with desperate plea sent forth having failed
and thouse who triumph plays over and over in old age's eye
but none were ever told
that did not bear her tainted signature
ink and sweat in fine carved lines
on her dusty limbs

she now sees that she too must one day face
fates indifferent game
must one day choose
and risk all at the hand of chance

her hands greased to the task
her true lies shatter resistance
break stone

after effect

wake in the morning to
after effect
the sharp edge of consequence
that brings misadventure into startling focus
not quite death incarnate
but an after effect of its nearness
you dry heave with the sudden and present fear
and the knowledge it carries
i wrestle all night with tomorrow
a left handed struggle against the cold facts
that i cant foresee
a word twist can attest to my incapable process
as the knowledge sinks in

my poems grow shorter
as my life slips into the denser wood
the night overtakes me
fare thee well friends
haste not to the gallows
for it seeks each man in his turn
and gives no credit for words
***** or barren
gives no comfort nor wine
for the grieving
or the celebrating
just gives cease to the roads aspiring minstrel
and his forlorn tune of loss

after effect lingers with a taste of gunmetal
is copper tinge leaves impressions in the eye
that time cannot vacate
and love cannot appease
once again i come
the miles a man treads are the measure of his soul
i advance the thought that you see my own threadbare nature
reveal my own worn feet
and ask if i have not exceeded the pretense she lied
gone above the expected
i cannot move mountains
but i can move hearts and minds
a poet, a wordsmith, a pen jockey
a introspection in a lesser volume of words
i am a mover of hearts and minds
a poet
a wordsmith
a craftsman of phrase
batter up, strike three and im still at the plate...the pitcher slowly winds up his arm....will i get a strike four and five...will i run the bases and make home plate to the cheering crowds....silence answers me with its own quiet comfort of no answer at all

cowboy's crux
mark john junor Apr 2015
a cooler breeze
takes the edge off the south florida heat haze
lizards and shallow drinkers keep you company
on your front porch in the night
a fiesta of lights moves slowly by
an old mans toothless grin and the never ending party
you call it mercy to have all these friends
but as you sink they just keep toasting the queen
that cooler breeze entertains your hair and
scatters the plastic baubles she saved for you
as she absently sweeps up bits of dust
and waits for her someday
there is the crux of it
cause her plans don't include washed up cowboys
or the ragtag company they keep
for pieces of loose change you gamble away
all those hard to face burning desires
you just keep your cards close
and bet to win
dawn filters in humid as breathing water
and she slings another drink to you
as the tropical sunrise really gets moving
she gives you your plastic baubles and a raincoat
kisses you on the cheek
wishes you goodnight
and floats away on the cooler florida breeze

dance the summer day
mark john junor May 2015
long day shuffling back n forth
long day of seeing nothing but clouds
with dancing free on my mind
with dancing itching my feet
i want joy
i want to feel the wind in my hair
but i got a long day here
in the hot weeds
wont you ease my headache
wont you ease my weary mind
tell me the news
tell me whats a cookin in that beautiful heart of yours
show me the way home
lets dance together in the falling rain
and see the rainbows shatter on the morning sky
wont you show me the way home
show me the way to the beautiful dreams
lets dance the summer day
lets dance moonlight in each others arms
i want joy
feel the summer wind in my hair
but i got this long hour in the the hot weeds
waiting for you to rescue me
waiting to dance

summer breeze

light as warm wind
she lay a single kiss
like an offering to some lost goddess
of love and fertility
like a prayer that her years were not spent
that she could still be loved
i took her then and there
strong in my passions for her
strong in my desire and loves for her
she tells me i am her shield
but she is my soul
i sink my pen into the heart of this thing
but try as i may i cannot begin
no words contain
i see more in her every day
and marvel at beauties in her
that beguile and ****** my senses
i want her
i love her
the rain has swept past us
and she curls up against me for warmth
and i become drunk with her nearness
there in the deep of the evening
when she looks up into my eyes
and i see how long her road has been
and how much it means to her
to have a man who is more than
just a fleeting whisper
just the proverbial ship passing in the night
i see in her
what she sees in me

bright colours of thoughts
feathered into the blankest eyes
they diminish along the pathway
between spoken and heard
between felt and cried outloud with a rage of tears
she corners what she feels
and wrestles with its slippery torture test
to express even a peice of its vast horrible face
even a small portion of its library of secrets
she hates it
she hates him for leaving that suitcase of fear
that closet of humid mutating hard rancid evil touching memories
she begs in a soft scared whisper in her sleep
that someone please help
all I can do is wake her
and hold her
while we both cry
she for her broken life
and me for my inadequacy to help the woman I love

her reddish brown hair
mark john junor Mar 2015
surrounded by sunlight's softest kiss
in pantomime of surrender she gives up her smile
she gives romance of the eyes to me
and with few words softly spoken
ushers me into her world
perfections kitten she growls then laugh's
as i marvel at her nearness
her eyes have become pools of green warmth
as we sit to talk and talk to sit
she asks why have i come
i illustrate on the breeze with words so profuse
i illuminate the room with light of reason
but fail to sway her
she ponders me and all my attachments
with gentle grace
gives me a door
sunlight plays in her reddish brown hair
plays upon her earring of diamonds
she gives me romance of the heart
as she holds me there by the door
long enough to convince me of her goodness
long enough for me to see her divinity
a spring snow clings to the breeze
on the beach which she walked
forever more young and fierce as a lioness
young and bold

before dawn after a night of  *******
in the the thick of it
where the words are physical
where the vision is blinding
who would you be if you were face to face with impossible me
bent and broken or loud and proud
would you be the poem

would you be some unfamiliar rhyme
distant and cold in your features as the sun set on your face

shatterbox man
mark john junor Jul 2013
his mind a shatterbox of edges
his thoughts weary and dull
limp along like thorazine smiles
appearing one after another to be following him down the hall
begging him for semblance of inner peace
stop chasing me he whispers mock harshness to the darkness
hoping to frighten the thoughts away
he closes his door shutting out the dark hallway
and escapes to the exact center of light in his safe warm room

mind a shatterbox
full of slow motion detonations of thought and flashes of fragment memory
scary things in his head he keeps wrapped in wool sweaters and mittens
like little children sent out to play in the bitter cold
their voices scratchy with distance and time laughing at him
soon enough with runny noses they go home for cocoa and cookies
leaving him in the exact center of the room
as alone as he has been all night
all of his life
in the exact center of nothing
a shatterbox filled with mystery things
a broken man and his broken mind

he opens the door to the hallway
and with almost gentle grace steps slowly into the darkness
whispering fast prayers to protect from the fingerless hands
that reach but never grasp from the shadows
he moves up the hall to the cold floor bathroom
the chipped tiles are filthy with the tread of feet from up the hall
all the working men from the
burning fields and the crop to be harvested
their language is a song that he cherishes
but their eyes see too much of him so he hides from them

the night wears on as it always will
he repeats to himself that dawn cant be too far off
he only has to survive the silence of night for a little longer
survive the scary things just a little longer
his mind a shatterbox of broken things
protecting the world from the creature within

dawn has come and the new neighbor taps at the door
with the meal he was waiting for
he pulls the door open slowly and without a revealing word
takes the hot food and cakes
darkness is gone to sleep somewhere
hopefully far far  away
shatterbox filled with sleepy things
now hunger isnt a companion

*i knock at his door at dawn
and slip the bag of food into him as light
begins to creep into the world
this is his world
each new neighbor passes the torch to the next
'make sure the old man eats
the mans son pays the bill at the store
and they leave the meals at the door
but the old man almost never leaves that room'
i wish i could do more for him
but they tell me that he is happier alone
i never have been happier alone
the mentally ill man in the room next to mine.

a desire too strong to deny

the storm moves in slowly
building strength as it gathers
rain becomes steady
as he moves out into its wet features
its wind break upon him with its warm intent
his thoughts are clear with the seeing
its a scattering of cherished memories
on the hard surface
that catches the edge of her eye
and lets her pause in thought
and mid-stride
to let her mind wander over
bedraggled and rain-soaked figure

inside that scattering
of memory
is a kaleidoscope of images
patched together with the thin thread
of the craftsman
he labors in the night
a room lit only by the one small lamp
casting huge shadows into the background
the light shifts and the pattern changes
the night reveals the images are culled from
the small corners of a dutch master
its cracked and blackened surface eight hundred years old
the rubbing from a new england tombstone
a child who passed in the winter of 1709
her eyes feast on the loam colors
and rich sequence
giving into the intrigue of long lost faces
people whose lives were so different from the mundane like her own

her bone features an uncertain veil
like a paper thin skein wetly attached to the
dark surface of her mind
illustration painted in garish light
he runs all night
and he barks like a dog
interpret his mouth actions
with abacus
and slide rule
cause you cannot measure the madness
with anything less than absolute numbers
the dutch painting is as much of a tombstone
as my long goodbye

the smell of pancakes
drifts me into dream
and in the golden sunday morning light
sketches possible futures into the wood floors deep surface
and my eye wanders that thought
as time passes slowly
the girls chat over the days events
and my mind catches edges of dresses
and the soft curve of ankle
as she barefoot's to the grass in the yard
giggling her sweet heart to the summer like december air
placing the tray of treats
just beyond the reach
and entices me to rise  from my writing
and join them in this fare
need your strength for bed baby she teases
and runs her lips along my earlobe
i turn to meet her tender kiss
and taste her strawberry's and cream
taste of her deep waters love
and know that i need search no more
that time passes slowly
but it cannot pass slow enough to hold me
in this wonderful moment
with her presence in my senses
and i regret time for this
for i know it will pass far too soon

a resplendence knight
mark john junor Nov 2014
leaving my destitute pocket
filled with her own dusty words
she is a  student of the unnatural behaviors
so its no surprise to find her on hands and knees as
she rakes the barren carpet between us
for the scrapmetal shavings of my many colored beast
as it sweats profusely in the close quarters screamfest of my mind

personally i give the carpet a once over for conversational pieces
a resplendence knight of such shining armor
i search for deeper meaning in the darkest depth of her laundry bin
cause know i could just as easy be the reviled stain
as i am the cardboard king
my broke down chevy just another hunk of detroit steel
so she and i wrestle into the night over the tea kettle cast off's

lay me down by the river
where the wild boys go
where the summer birds sing sweetly
in the thicket and in the sun
while the waters flow swift and clean
cool to the hand dipped in by traveling man
close your eyes neath shady tree on the sandy banks
let yourself slip into thinking
of the long ago
of the far away
the remembered faces come back like a tender song only the heart knows
the remembered years that fall silent like snow in the hearts darker places
these strings that bind you to your desires
are one in the same as thouse that tie you to your fate
kind or cruel

grey with primer
mark john junor Nov 2013
the fast car evaporates into the inky darkness
like a hazy thought
in the summer night
like a fervent wish to endure
it rides some backroad near the county line
with some stratocaster echoing sweetly
and a crooner of these latter days
sing-talking bout all some love he had stumbled upon
in the backwoods of childhood
and the flame that endures in his soul for her sweet hand
this song fills the air of the empty road
as the fast car
plymouth grey with primer
her wheels spinning on the dust road
the river run by the metro north tracks
the stratocaster hits the end of its song
but some part of you just wants that song
to go on forever
you just want that midnight run to last forever
cause shes there with you
and she has smiles for you alone
your just like that stratocaster looking for
the opening notes of that song
that'll last forever
that'll be on her lips
be her song

she gathers them up
holding them gently in her arms
there are more every day
like harvesting flowers
pick them when they are in full bloom
she walks barefoot in the fields
in a powder blue dress
big floppy hat to keep off the sun
she gathers them up
and brings them to the boatman at the river
he gives her one of the four coins he collects
for each one he ferries across
to the gates...
the gates....
one bright with golden promise of joy
the other dark and cold...
she hates the sight of the gates....
she wants her flowers to stay the way they are forever
tranquil as life in the country
serene as a sleeping smile...
she walks the battlefield that night
gathering up the fallen soldiers
she is death
come to harvest the late bloom
come to gather the souls for the ferryman
across to the gates of forevermore...

demonized in the mirror
mark john junor Dec 2016
a poetic darkness clings to
the edges of the room
ageless in its mental aberration
all the years of its incessant whispering softly the sounds
of a life forsaken to a hunt for
all the things that can never be prized possession
all the things that forever slip through seeking fingers....

my face demonized in the mirror
unchanged except by the years
still holds the taint and taste of her words
like a thick oily poison slowly seeping
from the soil of my eye
where such lovely dreams once grew
now only a parody of silhouette dark upon a shadow
the void form of a man against the cloudless gray sky

an emperor's tongue speaks regal
but the words spoken fall like black leaves from a black tree
dead and devoid of all aspects of a beautiful fall day
an emperor's tongue lavishly paints visions of such beauty to come
but like the footprints in newly fallen snow they are
doomed to fade in the sun
little lies constructed to tell the willing girl
that her satisfactions lay not in the mirror
but in the pit of some man's soul
in the vile places of lust and longing
her love to become a void form against the grandeur of starlight
her plans for the wedding now only faded ink written by a child

my face demonized in the mirror
I seek to choke out the words that would spell an end
to this mournful song
seek to extinguish the doubts and rages that haunt that image
I am the one who has made this face in the mirror
carved it out of the stone in my heart
I am the one who sees its ***** lines its twisted fable
my hand slips to the light switch and
turns off the forever eating at my soul

amounts of peace
mark john junor Oct 2013
this place where peace of mind
is a material device
where its tangible depth
can be measured in more than words
this fortification of stout heart
and decided mind
i fall back to reside here for
a moments reprise from the clash
of the seeming armed conflict
that must rage about this place
you cannot have dark without light
peace without war
isn't peace of mind measured by the conflict around it
isn't the measure of a mans serenity
in the struggles he must endure to achieve
i fall back to this segue between
dark of ignorant bliss
and the blinding incandescence of misinterpretation
of that so called enlightenment
peace of mind is a state difficult to discover
because it cannot be truly achieved
it is the illusion of sophistry
peace can be found in small amounts
in the laughter and love of friends and family
in the arms of a lover
in the warm sun of summer's day
in the grandeur of summer night

beautiful dreamers
mark john junor Nov 2015
six am and darkness still prevails
her casual morning disheveled shuffle to the coffee
still beautiful to me
and so entranced i loose myself in thought
come up behind her in the mirror
and brush my lips along her neck
she smiles and teases with a laugh

we chat over our breakfast about
the day now breaking silently outside the open window
a slight autumn breeze tickles us
as our dog chases shadows in the yard
the whole world seems to be waiting for
the brilliant bright sunlight to stream over the edge
of the world

her dreadlocks woven with beads
scented with roses
i run my fingers lightly along one by her ear
then trace the delicate line of her earlobe
i am intoxicated by her everything
i am in love with her
body and mind
soul and heart

each day is a gift
each smile a world of love
i have waited a lifetime to be here
and each and every moment has made that wait worth it
this is living
this beautiful world between us
shared only by our two souls
entranced and entangled
beautiful dreamers lost in a beautiful dream

the rio grande
mark john junor Jan 2014
the sun setting on the high mountain passes
brilliant colours in the sharp cold air
he rode slowly along the path
holding the reigns in one hand
the other resting on his colt revolver
his dark coat pulled up
covers his face
from the biting cold
some hours from now
further down the trail he will rest a bit
before pushing on
make the rio grande before the week is out
make the border and freedom before
the hangman can claim him
he shifts his weight on the saddle and
his horse flicks a worried ear
his appaloosa was his friend
too many miles shared and they had come to understand
and know eachother too well
from the desert towns dry and bitter
to the rain swept mountaintops of colorado
from saloons and dancing girls
to the long hard chase of the lawman following
had seen more miles than care to think
such a sweet tale
such adventure as he had dreamed of
when he was a boy
robbing trains and gunfights with bad man
but mostly he thinks of his country rose
and her little house near topeka
and how she said that there was always be
room for him in her bed and heart
with the hard won smile she gave him
rough round the edges but she was soft in every way
that a road weary man like him could hope for
thought of her now
all these miles away
as the sun sets on the high mountain passes
so deep with winter snows
so silent under crisp moonlight
her face there in his heart
as he drifts through the darkness
drifts through the years and miles
forever more
one hand on the reigns
the other on his colt revolver
some men were born never to rest
born never to know a home

whacks a hefty tune out on a beer barrel
full of noise and nuance
like a dammed version of samson
tearing down these city walls
and like a blessed version of delilah
walking in mystical light

saint bob has a penny opera vocal
on his thin mans frame
but all the pretty girls say he's got a  voice like sin
and the eyes of an angel
they are all a-flutter at his nearness
hes there just off shore if you look with care

old saint bob and elston gunn
had taken to the waves hoping
to be saltwater henchmen in such grand style
only to be shipwrecked in the strip malls
of suburbia with the catholic schoolgirls and
the paint by number sinners and saints

old saint bob and the charlatans of love and loathing
sit with a *** runner and swap sea stories
on the deck of an english privateer called penance
hoping to salvage the folly of their youth
but they have drank themselves to a fitful slumber
and the *** runner has fled with the gold

while all good sailors romance ladies of spain
old saint bob held out an old tin cup
and a hooligans song
by the sunbelt highway
one of the lover girls by his side
she so in love with his rough jester lost and lonely style
he will make it home someday
but he will only come if it can be
with a peg leg and a parrot on his shoulder

the aroma of mint tea

the penmanship of her soul
is slanted
flows over the page of her day
like silk on sandpaper
but her smile endures
even as she decays into the sand
which created her
she writes her thought
on the sunsoaked sky
and that ideal
is one of warm loves
i wait for the time to pass
and somthing to be revealed
but time is a twisted path
and shows nothing of its passing
except the turn of day to night
and so as i fall to sleep

"words of treason"
mark john junor Jul 2017
the words of treason he shouted is what
put the stock of a rifle to my shoulder
take aim now that the patriots are traitors
never thought it would ever come to this in my lifetime
there's a man on the road with a rebel flag
yelling that his treason is patriotic
he is gonna take my life for some russian profit in his pocket
he is gonna take my America for somebody else's taxes

Remember growing up the thought that my generation trusted
this land be free
"this land is your land, this land is my land"*
never said nothing bout had to be black or white
never said had to be praying to another man's God
they have come knocking upon my door
tell me my words are not the lies they are selling
and I better get in line or they gonna take me away
get right in my head evil men are the gods Americka dreams of
that our children will live in darkness and hunger
for some russians profit in your pocket

just an hour from Reno stopped by the roadside
watched the sun set on the edge of the desert
and hoped my America would still be here when i awoke
this never should have happened
never saw it comin
never thought America could fall
let alone to have a president be the
one who fires the first shot
I see a rebel on the road
words of treason spilling from his bible
a used car salesman spinning a tall tale
and the fools who cheered him on
wipe that stupid grin off his face if I could
I see a rebel on the road
yelling his treason is patriotic
come to take away my America
come to take my life for some rich thief's taxes

Remember growing up the thought that my generation trusted
remember what my country was built on honor integrity truth
now that's all been sold for pennies on the dollar
so some rich slob can feed off what used to be
a place that the world envied
a place people dreamed of
now the patriots are traitors
now Amerika burns
now Americans die
for some russians profit in your pocket
