this city wraps me in cellophane,
i can never breathe right.
its harsh winds and harsh words beat me.
i wake up to the sounds of grinding metal.
i can't escape, as our unrequited love will never end.
the city that hates me for loving it.
the city i hate to love.
this city will always be black and white,
not to be softened by the innocence of color.
it must remain strong.
i must remain strong.
i must clock in and clock out.
enslaved in a life i never wanted to live.
in a city i never imagined i'd love.
trapped in a cellophane life,
in a cellophane city.
chicago-this one's for you
God took the rain
And he tossed it in my eyes
And said, save this.
Save this for a bad day.
Save this for the bad day.
And when he leaves you
Cry it all away,
Use it all up,
And the sun will shine again.

How the **** I got here,
I still don't know,
reasons unexplained,
just let me go,
evil, it will reign,
looking through my eyes,
never be the same,
forced inside,

you bring me close to the edge,
and I keep on pushing,
now I know it's the end,
but I'll keep on searching,

you bring me close to the edge,
I am lost within time,
screaming voice in his head,
hear them talking in mine-
The woes of life
we pass them on,
'cause if we can't see them
then the problem is gone.

We shudder when
we hear transgression
but we all watch on
and then take our confession.

Now that we're forgiven
we can carry on
cause if we can't see it
then the problem is gone.

The world we know
could be much better run,
removing the barrier,
deserting the gun.

Renounce all the greed
and announce it out loud.
That up until now
we cannot be proud.

Or we can stand still,
and not move on.
Cause if we pretend
then the problem is gone.

Could we stand together
and perhaps all refuse
to join in with hate
and reject racist views.

This is maybe the only
way that we can move on.
Cause if we all join together
then the problem is gone.
This poem is inspired by the stunning piece by RW Dennen

Give it a read, it is worth reading.

I started smoking thinking I could burn you out of my throat, but now I watch the smoke coil and float. I'd never understood the phrase "gone up in smoke", but now it makes total sense. Here one moment gone the next, without a trace. We caught like a flame and went out just a quickly. Our romance was a slow burning candle, that one swift blow burned out. It's been a year and the smell of your cologne makes me look around the room for you. Even though I know you are no where to be found. A candle with a burnt out wick, wont relight no matter how hard you try, you just get burned.
