I cannot conceive
what it is to be free!
'cause freedom's no lock,
and belief ain't a key.

betterdays
i ate
my weight
ten times over ten

all green leaves.

now i encase
my fat body's face
in chrysalis
and
become, soupy,
torturous bliss
awaiting wing-ed
grace.

i awake
and crack the
membrane
crawl dishrag damp
out into summer's
kind light
and slowly
spread my wings.

please,
do not think
me vain.

but as i await
my wings to dry
and the glorious dust
to set.
i wonder at the ironic beauty,
that i, the fat catterpillar,
has become,so fine
and delicate,
an exquisite pallete upon
the canvas sky....

i take flight and find
freedom....
is a state mind
that flits upon the wind
and knows,
dfrom the beginning
             beauty is always
                            from within.
this was prompted by the joe cole's freedom challenge....

Freedom does not mean free from consequences. Freedom doesn't exactly have a definition.
It's when you sneak away for those few hours and let everything go.
When you're running through the parking lot to a strangers car, hoping no one sees you.
Not having a care in the world and driving with the windows down.
It's the way the smell of cigarettes lingers in your clothes while you sit in the dark.
It's falling asleep on a stranger while discussing old music.
It's the feeling you have before reality kicks back in.

I wish for a world free of hate,
where no one gets looked past.
I wish for not a fixed world,
but a solved world;
where my kids can learn equality above all prejudices.
I wish for the general knowledge,
to know that you'll need a big heart
to match your voice.
I wish to finally give liberty and justice for all.

Freedom?
Free from *******?
Hypocritical beings we all are
striving for freedom
whilst robbing it from others.
Chanting our version
Dismissing others interpretation
Freedom?
Free from *******?
The ******* we happily vote for
again and again and again
The tyranny of armed law enforcement
trained only to obey
to make you obey
Freedom?
This bubble of life is a prison in space
just waiting to pop!
Those with the power are holding a needle
to our bubble's surface...
threatening
forever threatening.
Freedom?
Freedom is a dark place six feet down
hidden from most laws...
but not all.

Messy hair, I just don't care
Boring clothes on, why do you care?
No make up day, eyes everywhere
Nah, not running extra mile
Throwing daggers? nope! Still don't care.
Stab me behind whenever.
However... I won't care
like whatever.

I'm just here.
Standing still, wearing a smile.
Because what you think...
I just really don't care.
Say what you want to say.
Think what you want to think.

Still not caring, freedom is in the air.

Am I too late for this 'Freedom Challenge?' Here's what I think what freedom really is. Caring what other people think will just stress you out and anyway, it's your life. Do what you want! Be who you want to be! Stay happy and have fun while you can :)

my heart explodes with joy
as I flutter my wings

I will never fly as gracefully
or as long as the other birds

but when I am in the air
even for a moment
I feel free

my broken wings lift me up
to where I do not know,
but somewhere etched in my heart

a strange thing happened when I
started singing songs of gratitude
for learning to fly with broken wings

other birds with broken wings
started to gather around me
sharing their experience and hopes

I am free as my heart sings joyfully
my own hopes and dreams
as I share my experience
to help another bird with broken wings
to journey a little closer
to the place etched in their hearts

and somehow I am exactly
where I am supposed to be
flying with broken wings
joe cole's prompt for a poem about freedom.  I chose to approach it in the non-literal route.

Forever was not
Or even more than
Years

We grew
Then apart
Leaving

Me with so much
Ground
Rain

Air all
To
Myself

Tryst
Rita was a battery hen
And every day was bleak;
For her, life's stage was just a cage,
And meagre corn her only wage,
But things all changed for Rita when
She learned that she could speak.

She overheard the farmer say
"That cage is getting weak,
That's not just dust, but flakes of rust
And if the hens gave one quick ******
They'd all be free to run away
And we'd be up the creek!"

She waited till the dark of night,
Then pushed into the gaps;
The bars were old, the bars were cold,
It seemed as though the bars would hold,
But Rita shoved with all her might
And felt the cage collapse!

She ran right out the farmyard
In the moonlight, dim and pale;
No more is known of where she's flown,
I hope she found a lovely home,
Perhaps she'll send a greeting card
To tell of her next tale!
For Joe Cole's "Freedom" challenge
As long as
we hold freedom
captive in our mind.
Running my fingers
Through your too long hair.

Finding out you don't care how much
I want to touch you, that's rare.

Sliding along, every inch of your smooth skin
Mouth tingling, thinking, not knowing where to begin

Being touched, from head to toe
Licking my lips, wondering where you'll go

Staring into your eyes, knowing there's nothing between us
Leaning back moaning, feeling all the love and lust

Knowing that all you want is me too
That's my freedom, simply having you.

Claim freedom from innermost fears
Shackles, which binds the heart to tears
Mind’s boundaries keep you in confines
Courage is beyond, and your act defines

Freedom
Yes, truly
We got this from
Our ancestors
Who fought for us
Still we are not free
From the bonds
From the relations
From the tasks
We are
What our responsibilities
Are
We are prisoners
Never had a release
Never ending process
Challenge accepted
